Okay, I am thinking of doing a split stay this summer. My son and I are going back to the world in August and this time we are staying for 9 nights (10 days). Since we are staying for a longer period of time I thought it might be fun to do two hotels. He really wants to try Wilderness Lodge and I want to try a moderate. I am a deluxe girl but had so much fun this past summer (DH convinced me to go cheap) at ASMu that I am willing to take on the moderates. So I am thinking 5 nights at POFQ and 4 nights at WL. I know all about Disney will move luggage, etc, etc, etc. . .

My question is, is it worth it to do a split stay? Do you enjoy sampling 2 different resorts? What are the Pros and Cons of doing a split stay (other than just the move)? Do I have to buy two separate packages?

These are my questions. . .thanks in advance for your help.

We tried this for the first time last summer and are doing another split stay in July. We stayed at WL then moved over to BC and it was wonderful. In July we're at CR for 9 nights then to Poly for 4. We love getting to thoroughly discover the different resorts and have a resort day at each one. It didn't take much time at all to pack and move so for us it's a great way to go.

Yes, you do have to have two reservations/packages. You can always buy your tickets separately.

So, the only real problem is with the dining plan. You said your going in August. Free dining has been offerred in late August and September. This would be a problem with a split stay. Your meal credits from the first stay would expire at midnight of the day you move. And, you'd have to buy at least a one day ticket to get the free dining for the second part of your stay.

We just did our first split stay last month and it was super easy and great but we liked the first resort better than the second.

We did the first leg for 4 nights at the YC and had the time of our lives. The location made it great for us to enjoy the F&W. Then we moved over to the Poly for 4 nights (DH has always wanted to stay there) but we wish we stayed at the YC because it is a much quieter resort and they had a quiet pool and a hot tub.

We will do split stays again but I think I will put the YC at the end of our trip since that is now our fav resort.

We've done split stays and are doing one again in August. It feels almost like two different vacations. We've done POR/YC, POP/YC, and in August we're doing 4 nights POFQ, 7 nights WL. It'll be just the kids and me for the POFQ portion of the trip, and I'm pretty excited about the whole thing. Since we've never lucked out and been there for free dining, the package thing hasn't been an issue for us.

I love split stays.....love the feel of 2 "different" vacations:goodvibes

Biggest Con....is you have to buy another 1 day ticket to get DDP at
second resort.....If you don't want the DDP at second resort...
Get a room only....your tickets will still be good from resort #1.

Also you might be without a room for a few hours...

I usually take a taxi to my second resort....I've been lucky a lot with
a room ready. We usually take this day to explore our new resort.
Maybe go to lunch at DTD.
Have a great trip.....I love WL and POFQ....you will be spoiled at WL though.

We did a split stay last January from AKL to Villas at WL. It was pretty easy. We were without a room for 1/2 a day, but we went to DD, shopped, lunched, then we were good to go. We took the bus from there to the WL.
This Thursday,:yay: We are beginning another split stay. 5 nites CR tower room, MK view, then we are moving to the Poly concierge for the last 4 nites of our stay. We will check out early, have bell services take our bags, then monorail it to the Poly to check in!
Being an indecisive girl:rotfl: ..I love choosing 2 resorts instead of one! There are 5 of us, so packing does take a little more time, but it all works out!

We did a split stay in Dec. 06-Beach Club/Poly. It was great splitting between an Epcot and Magic Kingdom resort. You get the best of both worlds on one vacation and it's also easy to visit MGM while at Epcot. It wasn't difficult at all to switch either. Good luck and have fun!!!:goodvibes

We have been doing split stays for a long time now. I think you should stay at least 3 days at each resort to make it not feel rushed. You are staying a good number of days to split it up.

A couple things:
- Stay at the better resort the second half so you don't feel let down.
- We have done dining plan on the first half and not on the second. This allowed us to have the plan but yet have some time for offsite or other options. The last dining day you are there the full day which works out well. You did not mention if you are using the dining plan so this might not apply.
- You are booking two packages. In the eyes of Disney they are separate reservations that really aren't connected. This also means you have to put a down payment on two packages.

You know about the moving issues so that is about the only con I would give. I second the comments others have made about it seeming like two vacations , it makes it more interesting and seem longer.

Really good to hear all these positive things about split stays as I am doing mine for the first time in just over 4 weeks:cheer2: As I have 3 young children of 3, 6 and 8 I am going to Pop for 6 nights, then WL for 4 nights which is my xmas present to myself:goodvibes I got a great expedia rate on Pop which was better than the AP rate and then did WL through disney.

What decided it for me was that I was doing only disney for 10 nights so figured I had plenty of time for both resorts, and its a great way to see more too. I think its gonna work out great:goodvibes
