I've read most, if not all of the various threads specifically about associates getting the purple "Welcome Home" greeting at tapstiles when entering the parks. One such thread suggested that the associate has to "link DVC to their MDE" in order to get the greeting. Another said the associate has to "create" their own DVC login first, then link that membership to MDE. I have also read that even associates are assigned their own club ID, if so where can I find that? It isn't visible on the dashboard.

Ok, first, I'm not sure if or why an associate can create a DVC login as they are not an owner, and have only limited ability to utilize the points. Second, since an associate isn't entitled to any benefits available through MDE, why would there even be the ability to link that "membership" (because it really isn't one) to MDE?

I'm actually more interested in associates creating their own DVC login, as I had assumed my associates would just log into my account using my credentials. Is that not the case? Nowhere on the DVC website is that mentioned (that I can find). If they CAN create their own login, then that might explain the whole linking to MDE idea, but I'm just not seeing it.

Can anyone explain the whole process to me?

Thanks

Yes. Associates get their own DVC login and Club ID. I can attest to this since I added a family member as an associate to my membership. It took a few days after I added them but eventually they received an email with the activation code to create their account. They never received an email for the Club ID but I was able to chat with MS and they gave me their Club ID to complete the account creation.

Ok. I added them about 2 months ago, and I got the email confirming that they were added as associates. Were they supposed to have received their own emails at that time with activation codes?

Yeah they're technically supposed to receive 2 emails as if they are new members, one with the activation code and one with their Club ID bc each associate gets their own Club ID and DVC account. Though like I mentioned the associate on my membership never actually received the email with their Club ID but MS was able to just give me their Club ID which I then sent to them. In my case it took maybe a week or 2 after they showed up on my account as an associate until the person I added received the email.

I actually got on chat and the rep was able to give me the member ID’s and activation codes for both associates. All signed up!

Nice! Good to hear MS was able to help. I had to do the same thing. Not sure what is up with them not sending emails or all the emails out to people you add as associates.

I had them both go back through their emails, and it looks like they got the membership ID email but not the activation code one. I think they both thought the ID one was just informational.

I think the biggest issue is the lack of any information on the DVC site about any of this.

Oh yes. Definitely agree. I honestly had no clue associates were supposed to receive the 2 emails with activation code and Club ID until I chatted with MS asking about it.

Anyone can do that, if you give them your credentials - they don't have to be officially designated as Associates. And they can do anything you can do, once logged in with your credentials - which is why Associates get their own logins, so they're limited in what they can do with your points.

Totally understand that. It's just that there is zero information on the DVC page telling you that they need to set up their own login, and if the associate doesn't get the emails, or isn't expecting them, then there's no other indication that you need to do that. I even went back to the emails I received when I added the associates, and there's nothing in there telling me what the next step is, it just says they've been added.

Sorry. Typical Disney non-communication.

Oh, absolutely. I even went back to make sure one more time that I hadn't missed anything before I started the thread.

When you, as an owner, log into your account, you can see the associates, but not their member ID's, and there's no indication that they have set up their account to access your points either. And, as I said above, there's no info anywhere on the site laying out the full process for adding associates: just what their limitations are on one FAQ page. Nothing tells you they need to set up their own account (although logically you wouldn't want them logging on as you as that defeats the limitations of their membership relationship), or that they will be receiving the two emails, nothing. And, after you do add them, all you get is the confirmation email saying they've been added.

Now, if the process works as it's supposed to, I guess the associates would know from their emails what to do, but even after I set them both up earlier, I didn't get a confirmation email telling me as the owner that the associates were set up and could now access my points.

Typical Disney.
