We are traveling with our kids and more three of the days my parents will be with us. My father does not walk well- however doesnt need a wheelchair walker (although I think he will have to use one in the parks) What do you think a good longhouse would be for him? It sounds like for most transportation we would want to walk to the TTC-but what if he wanted to take a taxi- where can you do that? And what longhouse are the boats for MK near? Thanks for your help-

If you want to be close to the TTC then Tahiti would be the best Longhouse for that, however it is also a fair walk to the Great Ceremonial House. If you wanted to be close to the Great Ceremonial House for getting taxis from there then I would recommend Rarotonga would the best Longhouse because it looks to be closet one to there.

I'd suggest Tokelau in addition to Rarotonga as it is about the same distance to the TTC as to the GCH.

As for the boats to the MK, the longouse closest to the boat launch would be Fiji.

Definitely check out Tikiman's website (do a google search on his name) for an exhaustive source of information on the Poly. :thumbsup2

Hawaii(concierge) and Samoa are the closet to the boat launch.

Raratonga is a great request for proximity to the GCH, restaurants and the bus stop.

Rapa Nui is the closest to the TTC. Tahiti is nearly as close but is also a large longhouse so if you were in the Western end of it, that could be quite a bit further than Rapa Nui. Rapa Nui also has a parking lot right in front of it. In the past, cabs have picked us up or dropped us off right at the door of Rapa Nui. Not sure if they still allow pickups there. We just told them when we called that we were in Rapa Nui.

Thanks for all the information. What I am really trying to figure out now- is what do you think my dad would most like to be close to?

You know your dad better than we do...oh, that's right....we don't know him at all.:goodvibes

But seriously, how do you think he'll spend his days? Enjoying the resort or park commando?

If he'll be spending a lot of time around the resort, maybe request Raratonga or Niue. Niue is very close to the GCH too and overlooks either the quiet pool or the lovely little "stream" heading toward the volcano pool. Either one would make it easy to go to the restaurants and pools as well as to hop the resort monorail to visit the CR &GF.

Tokelau is centrally located as MsStinkerBelle noted. It's close to the bus stop.

You said you thought you'd be going to the TTC a lot. Does that mean you plan to spend most of your time at Epcot? Or are you planning to use the ferry to the MK. Anyway, if you could explain that a bit more, maybe we could help more.

Thanks again- for the info. Here is our itinerary for the days my parents are there- oh and my dad is definitely not a commando type explorer- I think he will want to try and do what we are doing for the day- but it is possible he will decide to rest at the hotel and he does enjoy sitting by the pool. On Sunday my parents arrive and we are going to Epcot. Monday we are going to MGM in the morning- then the GF for dinner. On Tuesday we are going to MK in the morning- then my parents are having dinner at the Continental. So, those are the places that we are going to be- now I am wondering if it is actually better to be close to the GCH- since we can get to all those places from there right? And he could walk to the pool if we left him behind- and go get a coffee or something? One last problem- I read somewhere that there ar esome longhouses that are loud because of the luau. I have young kids so that would not be ideal. Sorry if I am asking the impossible. I picked the Poly because it was great for me and the kids- I am just trying to make it okay for my parents too.

Thanks,
LInda

We stayed in Rarotonga, which is RIGHT NEXT DOOR to the GCH...it was beautiful...Have a great trip!

Do you the Contemporary or California Grill for dinner.....I don't know what the Continental is?:confused3

Given your plans, I would request Raratonga or Niue. Very convenient to the GCH for the resort monorail as well as the pools.

But it is a bit of a walk to the TTC from that area for your Epcot day....5-10 minutes depending on your pace. You could also just catch the resort monorail and ride it all the way around to the TTC and then transfer to the Epcot monorail. But that takes quite a bit longer. Also I'm sending you a PM.

Raratonga and Nuie are not near the Luau so no worries about that.

We requested 1st floor Rarotonga when we went with my parents-in-law who have mobility issues, and it was perfect. Steps away from GCH, the bus stop and both pools. It was a BIT far from TTC, but Rapa Nui or Tahiti would have been too far from GCH. We thought it was the best accommodation for our needs.

Have fun!
