We are going 3 nights, 4 days I'm February. I don't want to have to many reservations. So there will be 4 of us, 2 adults, dd 5, ds 3 doing s Minnie and friends character breakfast for the kids. I've been many times but it's dh first trip so what would you pick can be at hotel, we are staying at the grand California

In Feb. you really won't need reservations unless you go to one of the more swanky places and do so rather late.
Otherwise you will find that there are tons of choices available.

I think you are asking for dining suggestions specifically at the GCH? They are limited to Napa Rose (which will bore the kids) and Storytellers (much more kid friendly with its character breakfast). White Water provides snack options & quick breakfast options.

We are mostly counter-service people so don't do a lot of reservations except for special occasions.

We were pleasantly surprised by Carnation Cafe when we went in August. I hadn't been since the menu change and had heard mixed reviews. We tried both breakfast and dinner there and enjoyed the food both times. Service could have been better but wasn't terrible. I would recommend giving it a try for lunch or dinner. Take a look at the menu and decide if it looks appealing to your family.

My family really likes Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in downtown Disney. I have been too cheap so far to try dinner, but we have tried a number of lunch entrees and generally been happy.

It's true that reservations may not be necessary in February if you aren't going during the busy Presidents' Day weekend or week, but if you have your heart set on a particular time and location and are mindful of the cancellation policies, then I don't see that making a reservation is a bad thing.

I was thinking more of doing blue bayou, carnation cafe or big thunder ranch, maybe cafe Orleans. I find you do need reservations as we are going during dapper day. I'm just having a really hard time making up my mind for my dh and his first visit

Have you looked over the menus? We find that to be the most helpful. Just google them up. We love the atmosphere in Blue Bayou but found we liked Cafe Orleans food more and the Monte Cristo is actually cheaper there! We enjoyed Carnation Cafe, it's casual American food. Big Thunder Ranch is very different. It's family style BBQ- all you can eat ribs, chicken and sides. We love eating inside Disneyland!

I would skip Carnation Cafe if you only want two sit-down meals. We had breakfast there on our last trip and we were really disappointed with the food. The restaurant isn't anything special either. I would do lunch at Blue Bayou and dinner at Big Thunder Ranch BBQ. You may be able to walk in at the BBQ but I would make a reservation for Blue Bayou.

If you're going for food over atmosphere, Cafe Orleans. If you want the atmosphere, Blue Bayou. The menus are not all the different overall.

Ditch the kids one night and head over to Steakhouse 55 in DLH not cheep. But last time I could cut my filet with the side of my fork!!!

I've eaten at cafe Orleans and blue bayou. I know what's on the menus I just keep second guessing my choices as my dh has never been. Funny thing about cafe Orleans we were seated right by the kitchen I loved watching them bring out the food and such, later mom mentioned she loved the food but hated where our table was lol

Good to know I really like that cinnamon roll French toast at the riverbelle anyway lol

The best place I know for current menus - allears.net.

My must do's: Carnation Cafe. Love the location sitting on Main Street people watching. Very charming location. Blue Bayou, waterside table. I just watching the bayou and the people float by. I love me some Monte Cristo. Cafe Orleans. Again, I love to sit outsite and take in the atmosphere. Did I mention I love me some Monte Cristo? And Pomme Frites.

I love the monte cristo and pomme frites also. blue bayou or café Orleans...it's so hard to make the choice LOL

I adore Blue Bayou for lunch. There is something about it suddenly being a moonlit night when outside the sun is beating down on you. I had lunch here on my 43rd birthday and it was the perfect way to celebrate.

I am going to try Carthay Circle Restaurant in California Adventure for the first time on April 1st. (Providing we can get reservations!) It might be too fancy for your traveling party considering the ages of your kids.

At the Grand, Storytellers is great for both breakfast and dinner. I had an egg white, fresh basil, and plum tomato omelet that was heavenly. And I don't know where they get their grapes, but I can NEVER get grapes as good as those in my market.

In Downtown Disney, we always wind up at Rainforest Cafe because it entertains my kid while we can try to relax. The salads are actually pretty darn good. The last time we went there, we were early for our reservation so we sat at the bar. My daughter ordered a chocolate milk, and the bartender took out a shaker, poured milk in it, then chocolate syrup, and shook it! I thought that was awesome.

It sounds like you've already got your character meals taken care of, but we always love Goofy's Kitchen for dinner and the PCH Grill for breakfast. (We usually book the last seating of the day and call it lunch.)

Blue Bayou is absolutely unique, more so than any of the other places. As a family, we really enjoyed Big Thunder, great food and atmosphere. If I was going to choose just one, for sure Blue Bayou!

I loved Goofy kitchen too. I took my older boys for dinner. I picked Minnie and friends because my DD adores Minnie and I've never done that one before. Plus I really want to see that soda fountain...is that weird LOL I think we will do a late brunch time so we can enjoy the magic morning. I think I will try carthay when I go with my mom and older kids.

I know right...we have to eat there.
