I have noticed here in CT that 2 of the Once Upon A Child consignment stores are gone-- stores are vacant. Their website is still showing both stores. Has anyone elses store closed?? There are 2 w/in driving distance that I am not sure are still there. I plan on calling in the morning.

Our Children's Orchard consignment shop is also closing this wkend. The owner has tried selling the store to retire. Apparently she has had no luck so closing the store instead. I am heart broken over this store closing. She always paid well for the clothing/gear. I have been doing business with her for over 11 yrs!

I now have a huge bin (so big I could fit into it) and a few smaller bins of outgrown winter clothing from my 4 children. I am at a loss as what to do with them. CL sometimes work but lately ALOT of spamers. We have a lady that does a consignment sale at a local church but you are limited to 50 clothing items. A new consignment store opened down the road but doesn't seem like she pays alot 40% and it isn't until the item sells. I would imagine it would go down the longer it is in the store.

I have always done soo well reselling the outgrown clothing. It always funds the next season's clothing purchase (well some of it).

Wow. I'm in CT too but wasn't aware of them closing. The closest to me is in Manchester. Is Manchester closing?
I never really liked selling to them anyway to be honest. I felt they gave me pennies for really nice stuff, while on the racks I would find junk.

The Once Upon A Child's by me pay pennies on the dollar. Literally 25 cents for perfect items. So not worth it. Either have a garage sale or maybe try a consignment sale that is held only a few times a year.

I drove near the one in the next town over the other day and saw people coming out of it so I assume it's still open. I didn't see any closing signs. I don't sell to that one since I've heard they pay poorly, too. I sell at a local twice yearly sale and make a lot. But I have bought from them once. The store is in a not-so-nice shopping center that I only go to if I have to (Home Depot).

:lmao:
I'm in Northern VA and I think I know exactly the one you're talking about! In the same center where there used to be a Walmart, till the new "super" one was built a few miles down the road? ;)

I used to sell to Once Upon a Child in california, but they never paid well. I only did it when I didn't want to hassle with ebay (back in day when selling on ebay was worth it). Now that I have 4 boys the clothes get handed down so much, they're way too dated and worn to sell--the few things that still look ok after my youngest has outgrown, we just donate and take the tax deduction! :)

I always thought Children's Orchard in Manchester was overpriced. Church of the Living God in South Windsor, CT (on the Manchester line), holds children's consignment sales 2x a year. The only limit is on infant clothing and there is no fee to participate. If you give them a call, they will be able to give you the contact information for those in charge. It has worked out great for me. Being able to set your own prices means more money in your pocket! Good luck! Another option would be to donate the items for a tax write off to Savers in Manchester, which benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters.

I think the Once upon a child in Wethersfield is still open, right?

Mine is open in OK although the Children's Orchard has been closed for some time. I suggest a yard/garage sale too but to get the most money you might check into a bigger sale. We have one called Just Between Friends and it is huge. Google kids consignment sales or go to Consignment Mommies on Facebook. You could also start your own with everyone you know!

If you just want to get rid of the clothes, put them in a huge lot on e-bay. It's a bit of a pain, but I usually make $2 or $3 per piece and get them out of my house in one fell swoop. I have 2 years worth of youngest DS' clothing that I have to list this summer. I'm going to start taking photos this afternoon.

OP here, I can't do a tag sale -- I work on Saturday mornings.

The Wethersfield CT store was vacant when I drove by on Sunday. There was a lease sign in the window. Also the Enfield CT store was gone too.
I know they didn't pay much but they would usually would buy what other places wouldn't. I do agree that some of their stuff on the racks where junk.
I thought Children's place was priced a bit high but I only purchased when I had a coupon or sale. She did pay well for the clothing.

OK I I called both stores and they both moved locations. Wethersfield store is now located on the other side of Friendlies and Enfield moved over to the Stop and Shop plaza . Ok I feel a little better!

I will check into the South Windsor church to find out more about their sale. I work every Sat so I do miss out on alot of the sales and the previews are in the evening on DH works then. I will check into them.

Sorry for the alarm. Glad to know my options are still there!
