Onboard Booking for another family?

I'm pretty sure I understand this but want to make sure...

I'm looking into an August 2019 cruise on the Fantasy with some friends. One of those friends is sailing soon - someone told me to have him book the placeholder with $250 and then I'll get the shipboard credit and 10% discount.

He's already booked for the August 2019 cruise - will he be able to book a placeholder for me and get me those deals?

Sorry if this is obvious - I'm new to cruising and just want to get the most bang for my buck!

It is somewhat confusing so it's good that you ask.

According to the CMs that I have spoken with, they say that you can book a second stateroom for another family who isn't currently sailing with you, but you have to sail with them on the cruise you are using the placeholder.

So, essentially, your friend can book a cruise for you, but he needs to book himself in one stateroom in order for both of you to receive the OBB of the placeholder. And if he books a stateroom for him and another for your family, both placeholders must be used on the same cruise or you don't receive benefits. If he books it and he removes his name (or any of the original names of the ones currently sailing), then your booking won't have the benefits. You can still keep the placeholder/booking but no benefits will be attached.

Thank you for your help. I realized I'm using "Placeholder" and "Future Booking" interchangeably but they're different things.

We would definitely be on the same August 2019 cruise - the issue is that he is already booked and I'm trying to get benefits I may not be entitled to!
