On the nine night Norway cruise tomorrow..with no clothes.

Just wishing you more pixie dust and hope it's resolved for you and if not, then hope it's SOON! I'm sure it's not any fun without your luggage so do the best you can (as it appears you are).

Take good care of the Magic - we will be boarding when you get off :)

I hope you have a fantastic cruise!

I flew to Copenhagen last June for a Baltic cruise, and arrived two days before my ship sailed. My luggage didn't make it from American Airlines to Air Berlin in Düsseldorf in a timely manner, but I had packed a change of underwear and my toiletries in my backpack. My trip insurance allowed $200/day in necessary clothing after a 12-hour delay, but I was told by Air Berlin that my luggage was on its way. I didn't want to spend my time in Copenhagen shopping for clothing instead of sightseeing, so I hoped for the best. My suitcase did arrive on the ship the day we sailed - thank God!

Trip insurance for baggage delaly isn't intended to replace your wardrobe for the entire trip; It's for necessities until your luggage arrives.

I know your time in Copenhagen is almost over, but I hope you were still able to enjoy that wonderful city.

This happened to us with United and a direct flight to Cancun. It's so frustrating. We bought a few things and United reimbursed us for half the cost and insurance covered some too. Our luggage arrived two days later. Don't lose hope. Buy a few basics and try to enjoy!

Sending good luck & speedy luggage delivery thoughts your way. My hubby and I are really tall too, and I SOOOO feel your pain about "off the rack"...I would be felling the same. Hang in there!

One piece of advice received here was incorrect. You may not receive your VAT back. In order for it to qualify the goods must be be unused

Admit this is making me nervous as I fly out Friday for a cruise that leaves on Sunday. Luckily the one checked bag will mainly have liquids including one and extras. I can probably survive for several days on my carry-on

OMG! I thought it was just a problem with connecting flights. I always book direct if possible. Now I need to make sure I have some essential things in my carry on just in case. :scared1:

Nope. In 2008 we flew direct from Vancouver to Cancun and the airline lost one of our bags. It contained all our toiletries, some books, a couple pairs of shoes and other small items. We had to hit Walmart in Playa Del Carmen the morning after we arrived to replace all our toiletries. The airline never found our suitcase and eventually we were reimbursed about $500. It was a PITA for sure. Here's hoping the OP gets their luggage back!!

I'm thinking a skirt, some tights, some shirts that can layer and coordinate, and a wool sweater and/or wind breaker. Might want to consider another bra and a pack of cheapish undies. Hope you have a marvelous trip!

I hope it worked out!

Norway ranks 4th in the world in tallest people (u.s. Is 9th) so don't be so quick to assume you won't find anything.

That's a terrific point. It's not like being in other countries where size differences are going to cause impossible problems.

Now I need to make sure I have some essential things in my carry on just in case. :scared1:

ALWAYS.

I guess today we'll shop but I'm 6' and my husband is 6'8 so I'm not hopeful in finding replacement clothes off the rack. I have $800 in new, tall, cool weather clothes in my bag.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I feel your pain! I'm 6'2" and Hubby is 6'8". Hopefully you'll have better luck in Northern Europe than in the US finding tall clothes (the selection here is abysmal, is it not?). You might try creating a local Amazon account and ordering a few things overnight... the same thing happened to me in Japan (I knew I had no hope of replacing anything) and Amazon saved my butt!

Their cruise just left on Friday and it's a 9 night'er, so we will have to be patient. :)

We took the first Baltic and then the first Norway cruise (both were fantastic!) and were among the ones having luggage issues. We flew into CPH a day early, and there was a very large number of people who were DCL cruisers that did not get their bags. I know b/c we were staying at the Radisson Blu, one of the DCL hotels, and there was a group of us down at concierge trying to track down bags with the airport luggage people. We'd just pass the phone to the next person in line when we finally got through to an agent. Our bag did make it to the ship, thank goodness, but I understand there was an SAS baggage handler strike before the first Norway cruise, so more people had issues. So, lesson learned...always pack changes of clothes in your carry on. You just never know.

I did hear from others that DCL was all over the luggage issue b/c so many cruisers were affected. I was told they had someone out at the airport working with the baggage people. Not sure if that's true, but our suitcase showed up at our stateroom just like normal. I was so relieved!

Just a tip I have learned from frequent travel, if at all possible, one change of clothes in carry-on, couple pairs of underwear to boot as well, swimsuit, and if it is cold, carry/wear on your coat/jacket/sweater (this is because it would be a more expensive piece to purchase). Also, when traveling with a group, again if possible, make sure you pack in each others suitcases, so that if only one bag makes it, you will have a few pieces of clothing. This is not a total curative if luggage is lost, but it will help defray your out of pocket clothes and allow you a few of your things to wear while waiting/shopping.

Also, when leaving for an international trip, arrive as early as possible. I have found that the closer you cut it to departure time, the more likely your bag will be lost. If you are switching airlines, be sure that it is on one ticket (don't buy a ticket on AA and then a separate ticket on another airline in Europe), you should book 1 ticket per way, whether this is on one airline or more it is ok, but they should be linked. This will save major headaches in cases of delays, etc.

I hope you are enjoying your trip and did not let this little adventure down it too much! How cool will it be to say, yes, I picked these up in Copenhagen.

You can get a small but nice wardrobe for $500 each. You basically are getting a $500 clothes shopping spree each. They'll find your luggage- they're never lost permanently so you'll get everything back.

Yes, a hassle but I'd focus on the fun of the new wardrobe. And the exchange rate is great so you should do well. Top shop is a great store with very good prices or ask for the local department store.

Same thing happened to us (and about 25% of our fellow cruisers) several years ago on our 12-night Mediterranean cruise due to a baggage handler's strike. Be sure to let Guest Services know as soon as you board. They sent a cm to the airport at each port to search for lost luggage. Ours caught up with us on Day 5 of the cruise (Day 8 of our trip!).

No, it's possible for the airlines to loose luggage on a direct flight. My bag arrived and my niece's was missing. Called the airline, they weren't sure where it was. Was not happy and told them that everything in the bag could not be replaced as I had made every dress inside the bag. I was so glad that at the last minute before zipping up the bag I grabbed her Animal Kingdom dress (packed with socks and underwear in a ziplock bag) for our first park day (approx. 24hrs after arriving at MCO). The airline finally found the bag and it arrived in our room that night.

Now I make sure that clothing is mixed with whoever I travel with. I want at least one full outfit in someone else's bag and another set in my carry on! That gives me 3 sets of clothes if my checked bag goes missing.

We are just off the 1st Baltic and 1st Norway cruises and 2 couples at our table had luggage issues. One was due to the SAS strike and the other was not.

We cross and double packed and made sure that we had at least 3 changes and one dressy outfit in our carry-ons. Shockingly, after 2 flight changes due to delays, our bags were the first on the carousel! :yay: It's all a crap shoot!

I've been to the unclaimed baggage store...so I must disagree here.

We flew to Copenhagen on TUESDAY in case of airline issues and planned three days to tour the city. We arrived Wednesday after an overnight on SAS from Chicago with 0/4 suitcases arriving with us. As of yesterday one had arrived (my friend's bag).

Our entire trip has been spent looking for the cases. We flew in from Charleston SC where it was 100 degrees. I literally have a pair of jeans, bra, underwear and a sleeveless shirt to my name. I guess today we'll shop but I'm 6' and my husband is 6'8 so I'm not hopeful in finding replacement clothes off the rack. I have $800 in new, tall, cool weather clothes in my bag.

I'm beyond frustrated and honestly, if friends hadn't tagged along, I'd fly home instead of putting on the same clothes for the 4th day.

If you're flying SAS, good luck. So far, they suck!

That's terrible, I am so sorry to hear that your stay in Copenhagen was so affected by this. There should be a good selection of shops in Copenhagen, but prices will unfortunately be considerably higher than in the US.

I've flown SAS over 220 times since 2007, including at least 70 connecting flights across the Atlantic, and the only time, a bag didn't arrive on time, was 3 months ago on a domestic flight in Denmark (it was delivered a few hours later). It makes me sad to read that so many US travelers have had bad experiences at Copenhagen Airport recently. SAS has historically been a very reliable airline and strikes are extremely uncommon in Denmark. Unfortunately, due to unusual circumstances related to the impact of low cost carriers on the Danish labor market, there have been several strikes at the airport this year.
