Hi!! I am a DVC owner who is planning her first trip "Home" !!! I have a question... I have friends & family coming with me and am trying to give them the benefits/differences of on-site vs. off-site. I know the best is the room/resort quality and the transportation. But what else is there? Is EMH based on staying on site (including DVC) or is it based on ticket type? If they're on-site with me do they get the DDP & other DVC discounts? Also, is there any benefit that DVC doesn't get that the average on-site guest gets?(besides daily housekeeping).

Thanks for any info.

Here are what I consider to be three major WDW on-site advantages:
  • WDW resorts are not typical hotels and motels; they're creatively "Imagineered" so that guests are immersed in another place and time 24 hours a day.
  • Disney's Magical Express for free, frequent, reliable airport transportation and luggage transfers.
  • WDW on-site transportation, so there's no need to spend money to rent an car.

EMH is based on being onsite, you need to show a room key to get a wristband to be able to go on rides.

There is also resort delivey of park purchases.

WDW room charging.

If you drive, free parking at the parks.

Availability of DDP, if you want it.

Your guests may get some of the DVC shopping/tour/dining discounts, but definately will not qualify for the AP discount. Technically the discounts are for members, but usually they are extended to guests that travel with me.

I have to say that depending on the resort this is probably pretty LOW on the best reasons to stay on Disney property. Disney "deluxe" hotels for example do not measure up to other deluxe hotels in the Orlando area in the room/resort quality measure (or service or price for that matter)

Transportation is a big plus

If you are doing commando touring EMH is a huge positive.

You are immersed in Disney. IMHO the mods and Values do a great job of this (I mean how many "Budget" hotels have "Mickey Mouse" themed pools)

I don't think they would allow it if they knew about it. I know of a neighborhood that built a community pool that beared a strong resemblance to a classic Mickey head but they called it a teddy bear or something like that and they had to change it and this is in Georgia.

Some of the non-Disney hotels in the Orlando area have done just a good a job with theming.

Location for us is huge, also, the immersive Disney thing - we aren't too fond of central Florida - we like WDW. Getting from most offsite hotels to WDW involves driving through part of central Florida.

When extended family from 3 different states went with us last October, my sister in law (who travels all the time to nice places) priced some other off-site places. After we looked at the DVC 25%discount price to stay at SSR with us, she felt like she couldn't beat it.

We simply reserved the room thru CRO,in our name, with DSIL and nephew as the occupants of the studio, with our DVC discount and she paid the entire room fee upon checking in. Things went grand! The only problem our nephew was upset the he didn't have "presidential suite" (the 2 bdrm we had on points) v/s the studio 2 flights up that he and my DSIL had upstairs.

Just a thought about the 25% DVC discount for DVC members with family staying onsight.

Enjoy your trip wherever you and your family stay!~
