Our family is heading to California this October and we are planning to spend a long weekend in Disneyland and would like to stay at one of the resorts. DW and I stayed at GCH a few years ago and loved it but was wondering about DLH and PPH. We will be with DS (10) and DS (7). Price is always a factor but if GCH is $1000 better than PPH, we'd be ok with that. Doubtful that we'd take any pool breaks but the kids would probably like to swim a little if it is warm enough. DS (7) has a severe food allergy so if the restaurants at one of them is that much better with something like that, it would also be a big factor. We've done WDW and DCL more than a few times so deciding on any of that is easy…..but not so much for DLR. Any suggestions? Which do you like best and why?

I've stayed at all 3, and my preference is the DLH. Kids love the pool, and we love Steakhouse 55!

We always stay at PPH. It's perfect for a long weekend. The times we've wanted to stay at DLH there were gymnastics/dance groups and other conventions that we wanted to avoid. The pools at DLH and GCH are definitely better, but PPH has a decent pool and slide. Basically, PPH is the least expensive hotel and you get the early morning/EMH perks. I would take the extra $1000 you save from not staying at GCH and treat yourself to Concierge level :D

Brace yourself---you are going to get answers all over the spectrum;)!!!

We personally like both the PPH and the DLH.

With younger children, we would probably choose the DLH---just because it is so geared towards them.

The pools at the DLH are larger, better, more to choose from, but we find the pool at the PPH to be fun as well(our opinion!)

The walk from the PPH is about 2 to 3 minutes shorter to bag check, but the walks from both, are easy and around 10 minutes or less.

Rooms at the PPH are brighter and a bit larger than DLH, but they are all really nice.

PPH is the cheapest, and if money is an issue, that's what we'd choose(we usually choose that anyway, because it's our favorite)!

PPH only has PCH Grill, but any of the on-site hotel restaurants, will send their chef out to speak with you concerning food allergies!

Both hotels are nice, and get you on-site perks---don't think you can go wrong with either!:thumbsup2

We prefer DLH. Nice size rooms with all the Disney touches. The boys love the pools(the pools should be fine in Oct, we hit the pools/hot-tubs everyday during our five day Christmas visits). Goofy's has the buffett and made to order menu as well. Plus, the characters at Goofy's are great! Steakhouse 55 is simply fantastic! We like the character meet n greets in the DLH. Tangora terrace and trader sams are good places to eat and usually not crowded either. Concierge level is great as well. We love the DLH! :cool1:

Our favorite is the PPH. It's hard to justify the extra cost for DLH or GCH for us. We have a pool at home, so we usually don't use the pools. Have a great trip!

A friend has a daughter with severe allergies and diabetes. They had really good luck at Storytellers. They stayed at DLH, but ate a number of meals at Storytellers at GCH.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure we'll like whichever one we choose.

We just stayed at PPH. It would have cost an extra $800 to stay at the DLH instead over the course of our stay. We decided that the extra $800 would be better spent on food, travel costs, etc for us. We enjoyed the PPH. I think you just have to decide what your budget is and then decide if there is some wiggle room in the event that one resort has better offerings as far as food allergies goes. The pool area at the DLH looks fabulous, but my son enjoyed the pool at PPH just fine. Actually, he only swam on our arrival day as we were not going to a park that day. All of the other days we spent at the parks and just didn't have any time for the pool again. That being said, each family is different, so I would look at all the pics of the resorts on the Disneyland website and get a quote on each one. Having more info should help you make your choice. I am sure that there is no "wrong choice." It's all about budget and personal preferences. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

We have stayed at GCH several times, and just stayed at PPH for the first time in May. Even though it was fine, we all agreed that it just didn't have the same 'Disney feel' as GCH. It is just across the street, but by the time you wait for the light and then fight the elevators going up and down, it can be an extra 15 minutes further easily. At then end of a long day (especially with the post-WOC crowd or post-fireworks crowd), it seemed much further. People say that the rooms are larger at PPH, but I felt like they were smaller. We really missed having the 2 sinks outside of the toilet/shower area. At PPH, it is all contained in one bathroom. With 2 tween girls, dh and me, it was a big pain.

We haven't stayed at DLH, but we had a friend who moved there after we had stayed together at GCH. It was a hike to get there, we thought. Nice hotel, though. Her room at DLH had the same bathroom as PPH--single sink in the one bathroom.

So, PPH is perfectly nice and fine, but it is definitely not the same feel as GCH. Either way, you will have a great time. Even though we weren't thrilled with PPH, we had a fabulous vacation! :)
