On Ship Covid ‘section’

Yes, I saw posts a little while back that someone in connecting deck 2 oceanviews got moved to the deck 6 forward oceanviews that are not connecting and it was a big problem for them. I do think deck 2 is a weird choice for them to block off given that so many people book them for connecting rooms as there are not a ton of connecting rooms that are not verandahs on the classic ships.
The CDC requires the quarantine rooms to be as close as possible to the ship’s medical facilities. For the Wonder and the Magic the medical facilities are on 2 foreward; therefore, the second deck is set aside for quarantine purposes

I've been watching all the news stories about the current problems on a number of cruise ships, and boy are you guys right. Watching the different scenarios taking place, I would need to know exactly what the protocols are for an outbreak, etc. I was in London for Christmas, and watching some of the stories there was alarming. One family had basically been dumped on the next island without help, etc.
One of the things I'd want to know is where I'd be quarantining on the ship. Deck 2 without fresh air/balcony would be a deal breaker for me. I used to love Deck 2, but in this post COVID world, I'm never getting on a ship again without a balcony. I'd go nuts being quarantined in a room where I couldn't get fresh air, etc.

I would be very upset if I was in your shoes, too. That is brutal that they've refused to allow concierge passengers to get their deposits back. I was actually debating booking concierge a while back for the summer cruises in Europe and I'm so glad I didn't. I cancelled my cruise a while back. I didn't realize they wouldn't have given me the deposit back if I'd booked concierge. Wow.
Quarantine for the Magic and Wonder are on the second deck. Guests who test positive will be moved there no matter what their original stateroom is.

I think concierge still gets their deposit back if they cancel before 59 days:

For sailings through September 30, 2022, the cancellation fee schedule has been temporarily relaxed.

Important Details
  • For sailings through September 30, 2022, the cancellation fee schedule has been temporarily relaxed from beginning as early as 119 days prior to sailing to beginning 59 days prior to sailing for Guests booked in non-Suite and non-Concierge categories.
  • For Guests booked in Suite and Concierge categories, and Guests booked on the June 9, 2022 Disney Wish Maiden Voyage, cancellation fees in excess of the deposit amount will temporarily begin at 59 days prior to sailing.
  • Reservations for Inside, Outside and Verandah Categories with Restrictions remain nonrefundable and nontransferable.

That means does not include the deposit.

You have to have exposure or symptoms. And I believe concierge still doesn't get their deposit back - only the balance of the cruise fare.
I just cancelled my early January cruise two days ago under this provision due to a close contact with someone Covid positive. They did not ask for any details or proof, simply asked me if I wanted to apply the money to another cruise or get a full refund. I chose refund. There are NO cancellation penalties for this, not even concierge penalties. I should have my money back within a week. Just clarifying that policy and procedure since you seemed a bit confused about it.

Disney is serious about keeping Covid off the ships to the extent that they can. That is why they're being so easy about giving out refunds to anyone who claims Covid symptoms or exposure with no documentation required before sailing.

Disney will refund or credit all costs — including concierge deposits - for anyone who contracts COVID or is exposed in the 14 days prior to sailing. There are no questions asked. You simply have to tell them that you or someone in your travelling party are sick or have been exposed.

I am booked in a 1 bedroom suite on the Magic leaving Miami on Monday. I have this in writing from Shoreside Concierge and several people in this forum have confirmed the same information.

The normal cancellation penalties are designed to keep people from booking suites etc that they have no real intention of using because there are so few of them. The 14 day COVID rule is designed to keep you off the ship if there is a risk that you could be bringing COVID on board with you. Disney doesn’t want you on the ship if that means you introduce COVID to the ship. They have made it very easy for people to cancel in the 14 days before the cruise because that is the time frame over which you could be contagious.

As far as DCL goes who is getting quarantined? Is it people exhibiting symptoms or people that have been close contacts. Are they using the Disney Cruise line app to see who are close contacts? Are the quarantine cabins ocean view or inside? My last question is does anyone actually know a person that has been quarantined on a Disney ship?

Also...Your point about the 11 days was when the first ship was to visit. GC's plan to bring ships back had already been in place well before that.
Yes, and 11 (now 12 days ago) Grand Cayman decided not to allow ships again.

I'm not sure I can answer all your questions, but some...
  • They are quarantining positives and close-contacts of those positives. At least for children, close-contact is identified as children in the same grouping at the Club/Lab. I would think things they can trace easily such as tastings, bingo, and port adventures might be how they trace close contacts for adults.
  • Quarantine rooms are on deck 2. Probably oceanview but that may depend on how many staterooms are needed for quarantine at the time (i.e., if they are only quarantining a couple of parties, most likely oceanview is used first; if they need 15 staterooms for 15 parties to quarantine, could be using interior as well).
  • There was a poster on here maybe a month ago whose child had to quarantine for the last night. She gave pretty good detail about their experience.

Does anyone know if a fully vaccinated close contact has to quarantine on the ship if they have no symptoms? (I know on land I don’t have to)

I think you have to be prepared to accept the worse secenario that could happen and then hope for the best ! Or choose to stay home. Really difficult to make the choice, cruise now or wait.

I asked this question of a CM who posted here who works in the kids club. At that time they were not making a distinction between vaccinated or unvaccinated kids exposed in the kids clubs. Anyone in the same group at the kids club had to quarantine if there was a positive in their group. Even if they had no symptoms and tested negative. And that quarantine means moving cabins to be in the quarantine section. Enough of a gamble that if we go on our cruise (still debating) we won't use the kids clubs.

ETA: I haven't read any reports about adults with exposure at activities like tastings or shore excursions.

thanks! Curious if they will make adjustments after the vaccine mandate change. Perhaps they will move the 4yos to a different space.

I bet they make the club/lab 5+ only (vaccinated only) after mid-Jan...
Having three that are going to be in the club/lab and are all 5+ years old..I would love that, but can’t see it happening. We may not let the kids use the clubs on our upcoming sailing…not from risk of exposure, but more the risk of quarantine if one other kid in their “pod” tests positive.

Do you know if they group the kids by age for the pod?

Do you know if they group the kids by age for the pod?

A few weeks ago someone on a November DCL cruise out of Galviston gave a very detailed report of the kids club. The pods are grouped by the check in time, not by age.

When your child checks in, they are put into a group with other children checking in at the same time.
The groups are set and don’t mix, so there is a possibility your child may not be in the same group as their friends from a different stateroom. There is also the possibility that your 10-year child may be in a group of 5-year-old children, again there is no mixing of groups and no changing groups once allocated.
