We just hit the road and we're taking a different route this time. Heading down 57 to meet up with 24 instead of our usual 65 route. There is a band of storms we're trying to avoid that starts overnight/early morning and it looks like they shoot directly down 65.

So far so good! Friends and fam have been warning us about the upcoming ice in Tennessee and Georgia but I think we're staying just ahead of the cusp. We're making good time (knock on wood) and I think this was a good route change. The traffic going into Indiana and then the road construction can put us back and 57 has been open road, few vehicles and little construction.

Just outside of Atlanta now and no rain/ice/sleet yet...we hit an ice storm outside of Nashville around 1-2am but it stopped right before Chat.

Something odd started happening with the van in Kentucky though. The gas pump kept stopping and it took forever to fill up. I thought it was a fluke at the station and maybe that pump was low on gas. Well, just tried to fill up again and same thing happened. Really hoping nothing major is wrong!

Hope you are still :car: and that the gas pump issues were just a weird coincidence.

Thank you! Just rolled into Florida and going to try getting gas again. Fingers crossed!

Did you by chance gas up on slight downgrade? I had the same issue where I gassed-up at this station that was built on a slant. It messed up the gas sensors.

We arrived safely and have been going so nonstop I haven't had a chance to update! DTD Disney yesterday after a nap and Epcot at rope drop this morning. We're settled into POR and we love it.

Total drive time was just over 19 hours but the ice in Nashville and the weird gas thing slowed us down. We could've put the wrong grade in...I didn't even think about that. I'm going to search the threads for a recommended mechanic and bring it in Monday if possible. Yesterday the oil light popped on and off too (out of nowhere) but we'll get to the bottom of it.

disney has a car care center on world drive. you can leave the car there, and they will take you to the ticket and transportation center. when you pick up the car, they will pcik you up at the TTc, too.

we come from 45 miles NW of chgo, and we love the Il route. we take 53 to 355 to 80.

at nashville, we always take the 155 briley parkway around the city. so we don't really hit a city until chatanooga.!!

now wish we could find a way to avoid Atlanta.. ugh! we have tried alabama, not so swell.

have fun!!!!

Atlanta never bothers me. We've only ever hit traffic once. We must be lucky! :) (we've also tried an Alabama route and weren't pleased)

I've been reading mixed reviews on the car care center so I haven't dropped it off yet. I think I'm also procrastinating to avoid hear hearing potential bad news. ;)

I have to agree with you, if there is traffic, just stay in the HOV lane as long as there are 2+ people in the car and you usually will keep moving - maybe slowly but at least moving.
We finally have Nashville I24 lane changes down to a science - so unless there is an accident, it doesn't bother us anymore.

Looking at Nashville highways it looks like a mess. Are the lane changes quick like where I'll be forced to cross over 3 lanes of traffic to make an exit? I have a GPS, but that has caused a lot of problems. Maybe Google or Apple Maps voice guided maps will be better.

I think that the greatest amount of time for a lane change is about 2.5 miles. We normally stay in the middle lane - it is easier to switch sides.

It's all very well marked, you shouldnt have a problem. Pay attention to the road signs not your gps and you will be all good.

well, it was confusing to us, and quite hectic trying to get over in time when 65 and 24 join, to stay on 24. not to mention it always seems to be raining in Nashville.

we still swear by the 155 Briley parkway. (whether you take 57 to 24, or are coming in on 65). it is so nice, rarely congested. it does become a state route for a few block, with a couple stoplights, buthbefore you know it you jump on 24.. viola! you avoided the whole downtown! (it passes right by Grand Old Opry and Opry mall.)

One time driving back a few years ago DH flew home early and I drove back with kiddos and and his aunt (we could stay longer). Well I fell asleep for awhile in TN and GPS told dear aunt to take the parkway but then had her on highways all the way into IL before I woke up and wondered where the heck we were. I know it was the GPS (I didn't update it before leaving either) but after that I swore off the parkway forever lol.

I have family in Nashville so thanks to them I've learned to navigate it but it can be confusing. I also stay in the middle lane just in case. And it does ALWAYS rain every time I drive through LOL.
