Honestly, we've been DVC members for a couple of years and I'm just finding out that they give a 25% discount if you use cash on the weekends (do I have this right?).

My question is, where do you find the base rate for the room? I have no idea how much the rooms go for normally.

Also, are there only a certain number of rooms they allow for this?

Thanks!

The discount is subject to availability. The member discounted rooms come from the DVC points inventory (which is separate from the inventory that is given to CRO to rent to the general public). MS only releases rooms for a member cash discount if they determine that the rooms will not be reserved for points. (We don't know for sure what formula they use, but discounted rooms are not always available.).

Sometimes, you can get DVC rooms from CRO with a code discount or an AP discount. You have to check because sometimes this discount is better than the 25% offered by MS. If you book through CRO, and combine it with a points stay, you may have to change rooms. If you book entirely through MS, you will not.

HTH.

You can find rack rates for DVC rooms on the official WDW website - they're considered home away from home resorts.

Best wishes -

You can find the rack rates posted at disneyworld.com. Click on the RESORTS link, select a resort, and then find the link for RATES. It varies depending on resort, room size and season.

Rooms are offered rather inconsistently. Rooms are only available at the cash discount rate if DVC's computers estimate that they will not be able to rent out all of the points to members booking with points. So, there is no set pattern as to when rooms are released at the discounted cash rates. If you call today and they tell you nothing is available at the discounted rate, call back weekly and see if that situation changes. I've also heard that you can book a room at the full rate through MS, and if they release rooms for the discount it will be automatically applied to your reservation.

My uneducated guess is that you probably would have a lot of success getting a discounted room on a weekend most times of the year (with holidays being the primary exception.)

You can only book one room at a time under the 25% discount and technically you (the member) are supposed to be staying in the room. I guess this was intended as a member perk, and is not supposed to be used to get family and friends rooms at discounted rates.

I asked a few other questions (and received some great replies) in this thread which may be of help:
