Just back...saw the matinee...Unbelievably fabulous! The voices on these actors are so great, and Ana Gasteyer still has her comedic timing from SNL. It was DH and I and DD 15 and DS 11. I wasn't sure if DS was going to care for it, and it was the 1st Broadway show for us. They were blown away...said it was better than any movie or tv show since you knew the actors were right there, live! DS said, "and they didn't even make any mistakes or forget any words!" The special effects are really cool, and we had upper balcony seats, so I thought we would miss some of the "feel" for the effects, but not so. Costumes, STORY, talent...just amazing. The theater had given away the CD when you bought enough tickets...or spent enough $$$$, so we have the CD and can't wait to play it. We can't get the song "POPULAR" out of our heads! :p Anyone who is on the fence about going, I would strongly suggest leaning toward yes. It is an expensive afternoon/evening...but we were completely transported away for the afternoon. And...the ending ROCKS!

I"m so glad to hear this, we're planning to go see this!

Is it appropriate for all ages? Would a 7 year old find it interesting??

We had a row of 8 year olds behind us, and they were squealing with delight thru the show. I am going to send you a PM ....so as not to give out any spoilers.

Thank you, I'd appreciate that....I'm reading the book now (halfway through) and do not mind being spoiled.

Ana Gasteyer is in it? I saw it the week before last, but I didn't recognize her. What part did she play?

She played Ephalba...and quite wonderfully. She can really sing, as well as crack a great one liner!

:confused3 Did she just take over the roll? I definitely didn't see her. I don't recall the name of the girl that played Elphaba, but it wasn't Ana.

I saw Wicked in Denver 2 weeks ago. It was fantastic.

They have already announced it is returning to Denver in May, 2007 :flower:

I'd love to get tickets but I don't know what I am doing next week, let alone almost 2 years from now.

I'm also looking forward to seeing it in February when it comes down here. My 13-year old sister is totally obsessed with Wicked. She listens to the CD everyday and has pictures of Elphaba on her folders for school. In fact, she sometimes likes to be referred as Elphaba, because she eally liked the character. :teeth: Now, she's reading the sequel book "Son of a Witch", and is enjoying that as well!!! Considering the rave reviews from you guys, it sounds like a cool play!!!!!!! :flower:

Wicked will be in St. Louis soon... I am glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Maybe we will get to the theater to see it too.

I have heard great things about this musical that is why i have booked tickets for my Dh and I in November when we go to NYC.

It will be our first broadway show as well., glad you enjoyed it.

It's playing in Tampa in February (I think) and my boyfriend and I cannot wait to see it! I have not read the book yet but I will get around to it before the show. Glad to hear it's good! Of course, it's not broadway, but it should still be awesome

It looks like she's referring the the production in Chicago. I saw Ana Gasteyer in Rocky Horror a few years back. She has a great voice.

My DD is seeing Wicked this month - she is very excited!!

For those of you reading the book - the suquel came out this week "Son of a Witch".

Glad to hear so many of you like it. I had read the book - which in my mind is definitely NOT appropriate for kids - and then couldn't convince myself that the musical would be ok for them! So unfortunately we missed out on seeing the opening cast. I have kicked myself for that!

I bought the book but actually never read it after hearing that is wasn't like the play at all. We saw Wicked twice here on Broadway with the original cast, and we got Indina Menzel and Kristen Chenowiths autographs and pictures after the show. I am so glad everyone here is getting the chance to see the show, its wonderful. I am so glad the tour is out, we have a friend that is touring with the show also. The music is great, the sets the costumes, everything. Its very refreshing to see an original musical on Broadway.

You know, I AM JEALOUS! Glad you enjoyed it. I think I am going to pick up the books and have a read.

I am so glad you posted this! I just bought tickets for the family, including DD9 and DD7, and then started reading the book, which is DEFINITELY not child-friendly. I was going to post here this morning to see if anyone had seen it and would recommend it for kids. Thank you for putting my mind at ease! :daisy:
