OMG- there are two on that ultrasound!

Once I was brave enough to tell him about the twins, he went to every ultrasound to make sure there wasn't a third lurking around.

So funny! My dad has said that we shouldn't go get another US for fear that a third will pop up.....at my first one, they only noticed one....at my second, we found it was twins....just wondering what will show up next week! :rotfl: (JK, I'm pretty sure we're safe with two, but it's a great way for my dad to tease my DH!)

Big congrats!!!! I have b/g twins that were 4 in May!!

To answer some of your questions:

So here's some of my things that I'd love to get feedback on from anyone with experience with twins.
1. How early did you deliver?

I carried mine to 38 weeks. Was induced with pitocin. Then, they broke my dd's water. Almost 24 hours after entering the hospital they were born. I had both babies ******lly and they were 18 minutes apart. He weighed 7 lbs. 5.5 oz and was 21.5 inches long and she weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz and was 20 inches long...so the size of 2 singleton full-term babies. I measured like I was 14 weeks overdue with one baby by the time they were born! I had a relatively easy pregnancy...it was getting pg that was the hard part.

2. Is there a different "safe" point with two. Usually it's o.k. to starting announcing after 3 months...

We had our first u/s when I was 6 weeks and the second one at 8 weeks. We started telling everyone after the 8 week u/s. Like one poster said, you can't hide it as long. I remember being about 4 or 4.5 months pg and someone asking me if I was due anyday. I also remember going out to eat at restaurants and being led to a booth and almost getting stuck thinking I could squeeze in there. :rotfl:

3. Once they arrive, how and when did you sleep? Did you luck out an have two that are on the same schedule?

At first, I slept when they slept. They are my only children...so not sure how easy that will be with other kids around. We worked really hard from the very beginning to get them on the same schedule. If one needed a diaper change, then we went ahead and changed the other one too. If one ate, the other ate. I breastfed both for the first few months and learned to feed them both at the same time. Once they went to bottle, they still ate at same time. By 4 months, they were both sleeping all night in their own cribs.

4. Tell me the best things about having twins! I can see a future of so many fun possibilities, but not sure DH is seeing it the same way (he's seeing dollar signs and a possibility of it being two more girls and having to live with a 5:1 ratio! )

I think having b/g twins is a lot of fun because you really get to see the difference between a boy and a girl at the exact same stages. As they get bigger, they have an instant playmate. It's so fun to watch them play and have little conversations with each other.

One other piece of advice...look in your area for a Mother's of Multiples club. Most will let you join while you are pg. I joined the one here when the babies were about 3 months old...no knowing I could have joined while I was pg. I've gotten so many wonderful tips and have made great friendships with other people who have experienced raising multiples. My local club has a next-to-new sale twice a year where the members of the club get together and we sell all of our children's things that are no longer needed. It's a great place to buy items that you need if you are expecting. And a great way to get rid of the things you don't need anymore. The first time I sold in my MOMs club sale, I made about $1,000.

Congrats again!!!!

Awwwwww, congratulations!!! Makes me want a few more to go with my 2......

LoveMyDisneyCats... I know exactly how you feel! My twin boys are going to be 8 weeks old on Thursday! It's been a rough 2 months, but it's great.

Flashback to our Disney trip last October...
I was about 10 weeks pregnant (we didn't know we were having twins yet) and we wanted to tell our 4 year old daughter. She had been asking for a baby for months and months, so we decided to tell her during Wishes. We asked her what she had been wishing for and told her the wish had come true-- mommy was having a baby! I wish we taped her reaction-- she was in disbelief. And then she just started telling everyone. We were leaving MK and she was sitting in her stroller just yelling it out loud.

When we returned, we took her to our first ultrasound appointment. I remember laying there looking at the screen and thinking I saw two heads. I assumed I was wrong and just didn't know how to read ultrasounds, so I didn't ask about it. A few moments later, the tech told us the news.

My husband and I were in shock... then we hear my daughter's little voice ask "What are twins?"

Now here we are today... two baby boys. I am still in disbelief!

Answers to your questions:

1. I delivered at exactly 36 weeks. I had a scheduled C-section due to two breech babies, but the babies had their own idea and arrived 2.5 weeks before they were scheduled to be born. I was completely unprepared when my water broke at 5 AM-- I had been "willing" myself to make it to my C-section, so I had not even considered that I'd deliver early.

I had a very easy pregnancy and aside from some backache, I was fine.

They were born 5 lbs, 5 oz and 5 lbs, 6 oz and 18 inches each.

2. Everyone's been saying 3 months is ok... we waited until about then to tell everyone, but family knew sooner.

3. My twins seem to be on the same schedule. They were like this in the hospital too.

4. So far the best thing about having twins is how special I feel. I know lots of people have twins, but I feel like it's a special club. :) so welcome!
Also, my husband had only wanted two kids but I wanted three... so I got my wish without any argument from him. He thinks I somehow willed it.

People did ask me a lot of questions while I was pregnant (do they run in your family? did you use IVF?). And I remember going out and having ppl STARE at my belly and step away, thinking I was going to give birth right then and there. I felt so self conscious after my 30th week!

I love these two little boys. My daughter seems well adjusted, but she does whine at night about brushing her teeth alone (she did pre-twins too). We try to praise her and give her as much attention as possible. Surprisingly, sending her for sleepovers at her grandparents and cousins seem to cheer her up. I guess she gets a lot more attention away from the house.

Good luck and feel free to PM me.

Congratulations! twins are wonderful!
Mine were a complete surprise !
We found out the day before they were delivered by C sec & were full term = 7lbs 7oz & 7lbs 14oz !

Wishing you a very healthy pregnancy & I know you'll treasure them!
