Ok this is the funniest thing. Here I am taking my mind off things trying to put a LONG day behind me. I posted on several threads and on the last one there is Anniemae chastising me to get off that thread and go post on the snakes update. I almost fell off the chair. So here is the wrap up for now:

Today nothing was found. Tomorrow and everyday until the 28th the trapper will come. Once he catches the family OR the 28th arrives and nothing then he will put down some kind of chemical deterrent ...I can't remember what I'll find out. He's the expert.

AC co. will not budge. Compromise: the day the chemical goes down they are called. They come 8 AM the next day and finish the job. No ifs ands or buts


If not here, or push to a later time, payment will be stopped. Period. This is at least a 4 hr job. I've had it up to here and will not agree to shutting off the AC in the heat of the day while you work. You start at 8 at our house I can live with no AC until noon.

No no you misunderstood we HAVE A/C it's just not running as efficiently as it will be once they finish the job...they attached the new unit to the old I can't think of the name looks like that vent hose on the back of your clothes dryer anyway that thing from the old unit & need new ducts ( whew that sentence broke every rule ! )


I have no idea where the snakes are now but the Red Bone Coonhound, the hunter in the family, is not pacing in the house and Maxine is not stomping outside so all good.

You made my night ! The day started with a laugh, had crap in the middle, and is ending with a laugh can't beat that

When I let myself think about it I try to picture Kaa from Jungle Book and then I calm down. I will admit I hear so much as a piece of paper rustle in the house under a dog's paw and I am living on the ceiling.

So im not particularly freaked out by snakes-shot shells in a 22 pistol are a fairly effective cure for them-now if you had a bird nesting inside your house-that would be cause for alarm....
But that's not why Im posting-There is a vaccine for dogs that will protect them against rattlesnake venom-they still have to go go the vet and get treatment but you have longer to get there and it costs less to take care of them. With 6 dogs you might want to talk to the vet about it-They may even have it for horses, im not sure as it wasn't needed where I grew up with horses. I do know lots of people here in Southern Colorado who get their dogs rattle snake shots.

Thank you so much. It never occurred to me that such a thing would even exist. I will definitely talk to our Vet about this. Odd it was never mentioned as the Vet certainly knows where we live. She has a mobile service and comes to us.

As far as the 22 goes, we discussed me trying to shoot these snakes earlier. I'm a city kid it would be like the little old lady, Mabel, from Rattatouille doing more damage than good. Not an option.

Oh my stars! Hope things go well, and that the slithery things have vacated for more quiet surroundings, say way down in the swamp. Ick!

As far as your AC "service/contractor", document everything. Every phone call, every e-mail, every contact, and document their response. I hope that you can get them to make it right.

Hugs! I've been dealing with the slithery things all of my life. I still hate 'em! I have the same policy that my Mom did: the good ones can stay in my yard, but are not welcome in the house; the bad ones are dispatched to the great beyond if I can get close enough. Where we live now, it is illegal to discharge a fire arm, so I have to use other means: shovel, ax, chemical repellent (from the hardware store).

Yes I am documenting everything.

I learned from my Dad as a kid the " If it isn't documented it didn't happen".

I can call someone and say, referring to notes:" When I spoke to you on August 19 at 2:15 pm this is what you said" It throws many people off.

I am blessed with a very good memory too. My husband both loves this, when it comes to legal matters, and hates it when I can tell him something he said and the circumstances of where we were on a given date in 1994 not that I actually do that to him

Stamps on the other hand I can never keep track of!

I have no problem with all the wildlife out there, I even tell my dogs leave it when they are in hot pursuit of something like a frog or a gecko. Rattlesnakes though all bets are off.

oh I certainly would move out first but no, fire is not an option

So update for today: Trapper came, trapper left. No snakes seen anywhere. Put out a few more traps. I will not think about this anymore today...hopefully!

On the upside: Maxine, the horse for those that do not know us, slept in her favorite spot under the kitchen window. I was very happy to see that imprint on the ground this morning. If she has now returned to feeling comfortable in that area this makes me feel much safer.
