Omg snakes !!!!

I hope you were able to get some sleep last night.

First of all how would I do that? Even if I were brave enough these snakes are poisonous and have a strike area right? If I were to miss and I got bit where would that leave me ?

I am a strong woman. Not much shakes me and I have handled things that many may not ever have to deal with BUT I know my limitations. I wouldn't trim the hooves of my horse that's why I have a farrier. I wouldn't give my dogs vaccines, even though I know how to, that's a Vets field of expertise.

The answer you are missing is I wasn't raised in the country. Maybe if I had been this would be no big deal. I wasn't and it is.

No need to forgive you for the question though even though the answer was not obvious. :)

If you own a firearm, you can buy ratshot, which is like a very small lightweight shotgun shell used primarily in revolvers and pistols. I've shot it inside my house before for a rat, and use it outside for snakes all the time as it's easier than trying to hit one on the move. A shovel also works, but if you decide to try your hand at dispatching them be careful. I assume you don't have any helpful neighbors that could help?

Not a fan of snakes. But remind yourself that they are outside. That is a bit of a plus i think. The bigget i have seen around here is a corn snake. And nope even though they are not considered dangerous, still didn't like him. I thought most snakes take off after they have babies? With Rattlesnakes:faint: I read that the babies actually take off.

I learned something, rattlesnakes don't lay eggs!

I am thinking they are still there as Maxine ( the horse ) loves to hang out over the A/C unit fan on top in the past. She is avoiding the area. Corn snakes I had my first encounter with when we first moved here. Now I tolerate them and they tolerate me. When I get her hay I know they are there, I can deal. I just know not to pick things up with my bare hands.

Good luck OP, please update us this morning. You are very brave, my solution would have been to run for hills never looking back. :rotfl:

I wonder how long they have been there. If you had not had work on your house you never would have known they were there, unless they slithered out.

Oh I will keep you all updated. It's wonderful to have people that care, makes me feel like I have a good support system. Trust me I am not that brave. I want to jump in the car and go to a nice hotel. That wouldn't solve anything though and can't abandon the animals. Who knows how long they have been under there. Ignorance is bliss.

I hope you were able to get some sleep last night.

I did ! I would have slept longer but a screaming " Buy a car for only $88. down" idiot commercial woke me up. It's a new day, I am hoping it's a successful one.

When the snakes were seen, they were up near pipes. With my luck I would end up causing financial damage. Remember the old lady with the shotgun in the movie " Rattatouille" ( sp? ) yeah that would be me. I am NO Annie Oakley.

No neighbors that could handle this. Seems like AL and TX posters are much more used to this.

Could you please post the name of the snake repellent you have used? I am dealing with a copperhead infested back yard. I was running the string trimmer a few days ago and it kicked back a 15" copperhead at my feet. I lost my religion and almost bladder control. :scared:

Sorry for being late in reply...but I use Dr. T's repellent...the amazon description says rattlesnakes and garter snakes, but it might work on copperheads too, it is supposed to mess with their sensory organ making them leave...so if you have them in your yard, you will want to start spreading it close to the house and pushing back...if you line your fence and they are in your yard, you just trapped them in the yard :scared1:

But again, I hear mothballs also have the same effect. Not certain, after the $1,200 vet bill after the last time our dog messed with one I am not taking chances...and $1,200 was without using anti-venom...that would have pushed it more than double.

Oh your poor dog :sad1: I cannot even imagine the horror of what he/she was feeling. I cannot imagine what you were feeling either. The dog okay now ? Right now this is my biggest fear with the dogs and the horse.

Really we have been very fortunate so far. We live in an area where a swamp runs right through our property and backs up to a nature preserve. I was so excited to find the land that I truly did not do my homework.

If we ever get a financial win-fall someday we would move. Not out of FL, but definitely nothing near a swamp and a brick home, not a double-wide. As nice as our home is I would rather have a house. KWIM ?

Yes he is doing fine now...think it was worse on us, only thing I think he hated was that he had to stay at the vet for 4 days...he is very attached to DD (they've been a pair since he was born) and didn't like being away from her.

Yes that's what I was missing.:scratchin
You weren't raised in the country and have never killed a snake with a garden hoe lol.

And you're right, snake killing is big here in AL and I'm guessing it is in Texas too:)

big in Texas...just google Sweetwater Texas...I have never been to their round-up, but they happened to bring a bunch of snakes and show off their skills at the State Capitol last year on the same day DD was volunteering as a page so she got to watch them and was creeped out but still enjoyed it (second only to getting to meet and get a photo with Manziel that same day).

I can take care of one with a shovel, but multiple ones...that calls for teamwork.

First I am very happy for you that your pup is okay.

Second: Yes not a country girl so this is WAY out of my comfort level.

Third: Uh thanks no, not going to google anything about snakes and so glad no one has posted any pictures of any. Thanks for admitting though this wouldn't be a one woman/man job anyway.

UPDATE: 12:15 pm
People are idiots ! There if nothing else I feel better saying that. Trapper Co willing to Fax statement to AC co. stating the truth. Upon arrival found no snakes.

AC co. not willing to finish job unless trapper caught the snakes.

Seriously ?? Even if they were caught who is to say that when the AC co. puts us on the schedule and
comes back that a different family of snakes wouldn't take up residence. I am stumped. Circle of life and all that. I understand liability but this could go on forever. Everybody takes money real fast though.

Ideal situation trapper and AC guys come at same time. Not going to happen. At this point I am rambling, sorry.

How frustrating!

At least the snakes have vacated. Can you get another AC company to come out and finish the job?

I forgot to mention that geese are good for keeping snakes away. In case you've ever thought about buying a couple. It's a thought.

Working on that as we speak. The first won't get paid for the whole job either.

7 dogs one horse no I'm good. Good thought but not for me.

Ok, so how are we going to fix this??? We need to get those AC people back. Can you call the company and talk to the owner and explain the trapper said there are no snakes?

I am waaaaay to invested in this!!!!

Right! When I read the post about the coordination between the AC company and Trapper company I audibly said "Oh come on!" out loud as my IT guy walked by giving me an odd look.

You said the Trapper guys had to come out daily, have they been yet today?

I am glad I have touched so many, it's either the mutual fear/hate of snakes or you like me ( said in my best Sally Field voice ;):lmao: ) I get invested around here too so maybe it's just my turn.

Yes and nothing. They faxed that to AC co. AC co wants a guarantee blah blah blah...ridiculous. How can anyone guarantee there won't be something under there when they are crawling around doing the work. Who would ever put themselves in that legal mess. Trapper even offered to be here when they come...nope.

Owner AC co. standing firm on what he wants and can't be guaranteed. The evil part of me wants to get a bag of rubber snakes and drop it on their doorstep in the middle of the night...I won't but oh how I want to.

We are done with each other as it is a stalemate. Now the fight over money will start.

That poor guy is afraid as well, he wants to go home alive….:lmao:

But I do feel that the company should refund your money so you can find someone else. I would be afraid as much as you...

Of course I totally understand that, but no one can guarantee anything with nature right ?

But I do feel that the company should refund your money so you can find someone else. I would be afraid as much as you...

Money aspect will have to be worked out, they did do the bulk of the work. Dragged out a huge AC put in another. They didn't bring everything to complete the job and ended up connecting to the duct work that was there originally. That is partially collapsed per their own admission. I couldn't understand why at 77 degrees with old unit is comfortable but have to set at 74/75 for same comfort. Compressor went on old one, valve went in June, motor in April. It was time to replace, no doubt.

Prior to discovery of snakes tech said, " oh yeah I can feel the cool air rushing out here" somewhere in back of unit.

So Long story short don't expect refund just something to have someone else complete the job at no further expense to us.
