I signed up for a race. :scared1: Now, I am beyond terrified...:rotfl: Its an easy community fundraiser 5k walk/run. I checked the stats from last year, and since its a walk run, many of the times were close to an hour. I can definately do that and not finish dead last, which is what I need. Emotionally, I just couldn't handle finishing last:worried:

The thing is, I am only doing 2 miles right now. I can walk the third easy, so I am not worried about the distance. But I would like to run it all! I have a few weeks to work on it, so it should be ok.

Johanna: WOW Congratulations for taking that big step and signing up!! It's real now and down in black and white!! You will do great. A local 5K is a great way to start because like you said time limits are loose. I think you will do great no matter if you run the whole thing or walk it!!! It doesn't matter how you get there but crossing thenfinish line will an awesome feeling that you will get addicted to!!! Keep up with the training along with the mental training, they both will come in handy.

Johanna: Bwa ha ha ha. Welcome to the dark side!

Seriously, you're going to do just great. Don't stress about it at all. You already KNOW you can finish. You KNOW you won't be DLF (not that there's anything wrong with that). And you KNOW you have time to increase your distance and that you want to run the whole thing; that's a great way to keep motivated. Just look at the race as a little carrot, a slightly more formal training run. I just know you'll do well! :thumbsup2

NICE and remember it counts double on your weekly team total!

That's great! I've only done 2 races so far (a 5K and a 10K), but I really love the motivation they give me, and I love the energy and fun of the actual race. You've picked a race that will work for you, and I'm sure you will have a blast!

Now I'm addicted - I keep putting new races in my plans! I think this is a common addiction on this board.

That's great! :woohoo: :woohoo: Having a goal keeps me motivated to continue to put in the miles! My first 5K was a local race and I was really glad I did it before doing the Minnie 5K and 15K. I just signed up for a 5K on July 4th. I needed a short term goal to keep me on track. I'm sure you'll do great!:cool1:

Good for you! I know you'll do great - you'll probably do better than you think you will.

Congratulations! My first race was only a few months ago and I remember how nervous I was, and still am before a race. If you have a few weeks, may I suggest that you pick up this month's Runner's World. It has a great article for training for your first 5k. I believe that the same training plan is on runnersworld.com as well for free. Best of luck and remember, getting to the starting line ready to race is much more difficult than getting to the finish line.

WooHoo:banana: . I felt the same way when I signed up for my first race. Then I spent the first 1/2 mile of the race saying to myself, "Oh my gosh, I'm actually doing this." It's a great feeling and the energy and excitment that you feel in the crowd on the day of the race will pull you through. Congratulations, you'll do great!

Congrats on signing up for your first race. I still remember my first official race - it was a year ago this month. I am going to sign up for the race again this year (its the end of this month) hopefully I will be better then last years time.

Good luck in your first race!! Its so exciting!!!
