OMG! 3 month planning seems even worse than year planning...

So many choices and so little time! We've gone and changed our minds. Now, instead of Y/C conc. for $3000 (which included one AP for resort disc., DH's 5 day PH and 3 kids 5 day PH) for Christmas week, I priced out the Winter Dream Magic package and can get 5 nights and 6 days of unlimited park hopping at POR for $1944. We can do so much more with that extra $1000.

Am I crazy to give up my Y/C?? I loved the thought of going deluxe, but we might be happier at POR where there's is a food court for the kids. And I can plan more PS's with that extra money. We'll have our van, so we won't be tied to the bus system. I can't see us spending a huge amount of time in the rooms. And we've been to (DxL) POR twice and have really enjoyed our visits there. But I have to be sure before 9/22 when the package expires.

Hope this is the right choice...Anyone spent Christmas week at POR before??

last trip I had a about 1 1/2 years to plan, and the first trip I planned for what seemed like forever. So when my AP's (from my last trip) started calling my name a couple of weeks ago I decided to go when a bunch of people from here were going. I officially decided at about 94 days or so out, it is crazy, it really does seem worse when you have less timeso much to decide in such a small time, I can't help with desicions though, but good luck.

I think you need to do what suits YOU best.

If you're not going to be at the resort enough to enjoy the extra amenities you're paying for, then by all means, don't stay there! If you've done Port Orleans before and like it, then stay there! :)

I don't think you're crazy to give up the deluxe at all. Last September, my fiancée and I had a room booked at Port Orleans Riverside for some $79/night including tax. Her mom decided she wanted to come, but wanted a really cheap room. The Courtyard Marriott was having one of those $25/night specials. We booked her a room. Later, we decided that that rate was TOO good to pass up, so we cancelled our POR reservation, and stayed at the Courtyard Marriott. It was WONDERFUL, and I don't regret that decision at all! :)

I am always tempted by the deluxe resorts, but have never given in to the urge. I always felt that unless their great special deals match my timeline it wasn't worth it. I like the food courts at the moderates & I just LOVE POR. We've stayed other places & it's just part of my WDW experience to stay there. On the other side of the coin, you've got the value resorts. That, for me, is not worth the savings. While I don't spend a ton of time in the room, I do want to be able to move around in it & not have to walk a mile to get to the food court.

So, of course, as you know, it's an indiv decision. My only advice to you is to figure out what you'd hate to lose & what you'd love to get & see how they balance.

Have fun!

I don't think your'e crazy to give up the YC for POR. We have done the same thing at least 2 times now. I had booked YC for our trip in Oct. 2001 with a great AP rate but then when I checked and saw that by staying at POR we could save about $100.00/night my frugal side won out and we went with POR. The same thing happened for our night before our cruise this past Jan. They had some good code rates at that time and I thought for 1 night we could splurge and DD and I could finally get our chance to enjoy Stormalong Bay but again my frugal side won out and we ended up staying near the Port again for about $100.00 less for the night again. In retrospect both times I am very glad we didn't stay at YC because both times ended up being way to cold to swim, so we wouldn't have been able to enjoy SB anyways and we saved alot of money to spend on other things. We too love POR and we think they have the best food court. We have always enjoyed staying there. $1000.00 is alot of savings but only you can decide how to spend your money - Good Luck!

We love POR! I would gladly give up my YC ressie for $1000 in savings. POR is so beautiful and quiet and they do have a great food court. I like Piano Bob in the River Roost Lounge too!! Can't get that at YC.

Well I would stay at the YC concierge. You just can't beat the convenience of the location and the concierge lounge is so convenient for breakfast. And with Epcot & Boardwalk just a short walk away you've got lots of food choices and the Dolphin has a caffeteria. And the room is bigger and queen size beds. And it is so beautiful at Christmas but I'm sure POR is too.

Have you priced the YC at DreamMaker rates? Maybe that would be better for you than AP. Also, since you're driving will you be arriving early on 1st day? Maybe stay 1 day real cheap offsite so you can check-in really early and get every minute out of those park hoppers.

You'll have a great time no matter where you stay. Enjoy!!!

One of the big draws of YC/BC is the pool... remembering last december and how rainy and cold it was - you might not get a chance to enjoy the pool much.

However, it is a really busy time of year and if you are going to be spending a lot of time at EPCOT... being able to walk over is an amazing advantage. Also the boats to MGM are much better than a bus anyday.

You mentioned a 1000.00 price difference between YC Concierge and PO... but what is the difference between YC Regular rooms and PO?

If it's only a 500.00 difference (less than 100.00 a day) I would go for YC over PO in a heart beat.
