Olympic Ceremonies

It's not being shown in the US until later. I've been thrilled with what Danny Boyle has done though!

I'm in the minority so far, but I think the Opening Ceremonies stink!! With a capital S!

I am loving the Opening Ceremony but the only problem I have is that I wish Meredith Vieria and Matt Lauer would stop talking. It is kinda hard to hear what is going on with them talking all the time.

Well, I'm in the minority with you. The only parts I have enjoyed are the Queen and James Bond thing, and Mr. Bean doing the Chariots of Fire scene. I've been really bored by the rest of it.

BRING ON SIR PAUL!

boring and so cluttered its hard to see anything or understand what is going on. I really dislike this opening ceremony

Considering some of the past ceremonies, this was actually pretty good. Yes,it was odd to celebrate the healthcare system, but I thought the production overall was pretty impressive and actually made sense (does anyone remember Albertville?).

As for Sir Paul, whatever.

It's long & slow.

I thought the Queen was a good sport in participating the way she did :thumbsup2 and not just showing up to stand there for the national anthem.

Without them, I would never have understood all the symbolism of the show.

There is something wrong when you need people to narrate & explain what's going on.

Is anybody else unhappy with the choice for Olympic torch lighting? I thought it was going to be roger bannister.

The ceremonial show is "different". I did really liked the Children's literature portion. All those Mary Poppins dropping down-AWESOME.

I like all the music during the walk of nations.

Beijing is an impossible act to follow:upsidedow:upsidedow
Vancouver's was very, very cool too!

I am loving it! I like how it's theatrical, with little mini stories. I really liked the bedtime sequence, especially with Mary Poppins v. Voldemort!

I don't like all the flash and showiness of some Opening Ceremonies, like Beijing. It seemed like the Chinese were trying too hard to impress. I really like the simple storytelling of what represents London and Great Britain.

We're watching on our DVR, so I'm a little behind. Just now watching Mr. Bean. Hilarious!

I didn't like it all that much. It was hard to follow and so jumbled.

I'm watching the show on "NBC" time now. So we don't know who is lighting the torch yet. Some in the other thread, in the OP, have watched the whole ceremony yet, either in London time, or through satellite feed. So they had been talking about what happened today already.

We need two Olympic threads for those watching on NBC & for those watching in real, London time. :(

We're in the middle of the parade of nations, and just for kicks and giggles, I had DD#2 go to this website she knows to chart how many countries I've been to (of the 208 marching). To my utter astonishment, I've been to 28 of the countries, on every continent except Antarctica! Of the 28, I've lived in 10 of them, including the U.S.

If anyone is interested in charting your travels, the website is www.douweosinga.com/projects/visited?region=world

Have fun!

Queen Colleen

We are watching on NBC and they are still marching in. Was there a US channel that showed it in real time?
