Olympic Ceremonies

We're in the middle of the parade of nations, and just for kicks and giggles, I had DD#2 go to this website she knows to chart how many countries I've been to (of the 208 marching). To my utter astonishment, I've been to 28 of the countries, on every continent except Antarctica! Of the 28, I've lived in 10 of them, including the U.S.

If anyone is interested in charting your travels, the website is www.douweosinga.com/projects/visited?region=world

Have fun!

Wow, what do you do, military?

I'm watching the show on "NBC" time now. So we don't know who is lighting the torch yet. Some in the other thread, in the OP, have watched the whole ceremony yet, either in London time, or through satellite feed. So they had been talking about what happened today already.

We need two Olympic threads for those watching on NBC & for those watching in real, London time. :(

That's how I'm watching it. I deliberately didn't say who in case. But I'm watching US and they showed somebody riding in a boa with the Torch. I'm assuming this person will light it. I could be wrong.

We didn't care for it. Very disjoint and boring

I think you meant to say boat not boa. ;)

Huh. I LOVED the Beijing opening ceremonies cause I felt like they were giving us a flavor of the country without trying to throw in everything that could possibly be relevant. The London ones were still cool but SOOOOOOO random. From the industrial revolution to Peter Pan, Voldemort, and Mary Poppins? Trippy, but weiiiird! I enjoyed it but won't find it memorable (except for its strangeness... lol)

I think there is one or more hand offs. I remember when Muhammad Ali lit the torch. Various people still ran, handing off torch through the stadium. We all thought the last person running up the stars was kind of meh! Then he handed it to Muhammad Ali and I got all teary-eyed.

So if you think the guy running with it now is kind of meh, it could be a similar scenario.

I was curious - I've been in 23 countries. I was surprised myself. Thanks for the link.

Back to the Parade of Nations .....

What the heck are the Brits wearing? Gold lame, like they already won all the gold. And those tan dresses look like bed sheets.

Great Brittain outfits are just as bad, space suits with cropped pants.

I liked the island nation with the blue shirts.

It seems like the countries with the most athletes are trying to out do each others' outfits. Maybe they should make one with a swan around their necks.

Those are the bathing suits for the swim team.

i didn't mind the part with the children's literature. but parts of that were a little weird. i did not like the thing about the guy/girl. i really didn't follow a lot of that. i know what the "point" was, but i still felt kind of "meh" about it. some of the music was good though.

USA in outfits made in China. so. nice. :(

I did a double take - I thought they were night gowns.
