Any opinions on this place? I am looking for a place to stay last two days of trip which . I will be traveling with DH and DS(17).

It is a nice place to stroll around but if you start doing the rides there, it can add up... there are many nice stores to stroll thru... some of the coupon books have coupons in for a free ferris wheel ride...check for them.... there is also a neat store that sells mini cocca cola's..... they use to be 25 cents or something...not sure what they are now.. On Friday night they have like a car show, you can see different types of cars .... you cannot go in them or anything...the car owners bring them there just to show them off & there is music...

I agree it can be quite expensive and the bit I stayed in last year wasn't very good at all, but my hotel was cheap so Id better not complain ! :)

The Comfort Inn Maingate East is located right next to Old Town. We were just there in March for the 2nd time and enjoyed walking around in the evening. It certainly doesn't warrant 2 days though...it's something fun to do at night when the parks close IMHO...:D

Hi,

Old Town is cool. It's nice to walk around and shop. There is an A&W Root Beer with FOOT LONG hot dogs. Mmmmm! and Root Beer Floats. All cheap!

We spent $20 on tickets and the kids rode 5 rides each which satisfied them. The Big Ferris wheel is fun. DH rode a bull for $10.00 and stayed on about 10 seconds. The video is priceless though.

On Friday night they have a car show. I would go again. Nice break from the parks and cheaper than the Marketplace.

We enjoy Old Town. As mentioned, its a great place to spend an evening when Disney parks close early. My daughter and I always ride the go-karts and she'll do some other rides too. Trip before last we stayed at Days Suites right next to Old Town. Our reservation package included about $60 worth of ride tickets which was great.

Flippers has good pizza. We usually take out from there one nite regardless of where we stay.

If you like classic cars, they have a cruise nite on Fridays and Saturdays year-round.

WEll I must be a majority of one. I hated old town. Even though we were there during the day we could smell the places that reeked of beer as we walked by. It was just yukky! If you have lots of extra time, then by all means do it once BUT if you are strapped for time think of all the beautiful places around there and do not waste you time on this place. If you want to stroll, go to Celebration. They have nice shops, and nice restaurants. Go to the movie theatre there. It is a nice place not all that far from Old Town.

Old Town is definitely a night time destination. That's when the place really comes alive. Give it a try on a weekend nite especially and you'll see its a whole different place. Its like comparing walking through Pleasure Island mid-day and at nite - no comparison.

We were very disappointed. We were short on time and just wanted to check it out. It took 40 min to find a parking place as we were looking for a handicap spot. We ended up in a field that was impossible to push the wheel chair through. Unfortunatly it was Saturday night and they had a car show. It was impossible to navigate the wheel chair and we left after we could finally cross the street to get back to our car. In my opinion Downtown Disney is a much more family appropriate destination for the evening.:( :(

We went on a Saturday night and saw the car show. It was fun for about an hour or so. The best part was watching the people do the bungee chair and all those crazy rides! It was crowded and the people there were as my DD said "sketchy". It's worth the experience. We stayed at Tropical Palms so we just walked over.

If I read your post correctly, you are looking for a place to stay in the Old Town area? Old Town is just a parking-lot type of place along 192 in Kissimmee with sky rides, cheezy amusement rides, kind of like a midway or state fair type of thing. We thought Old Town was gross...dirty, smelly, nasty. HOWEVER...Comfort Suites Maingate East was a wonderful place to stay! Fortunately, you aren't close enough to Old Town to have to tolerate the noise, smells or crowds. I have also heard good things about Tropical Palms, but AVOID Days Inn and Suites...it's right in the midddle of the grossness, and I've heard the accomodations are nasty.

Well Old Town is in a bizaar way ok. I would recommend (if you have the extra time) visiting it at least once and then you can make up your own mind. It is seedy but it can be fun too, its just something you would have to make your own mind up about. Now as for Days Inn Suites, we stayed there in August 2001 and I didnt think it was as bad as some make it out to be. It was our first trip ever to Disney and now that I have learned more about the area I probably wont stay there again but its not because we had an unpleasant stay its just because there are nicer placed out there. Like I said it just all in what YOU like and what YOU are comfortable with. Good luck in making your decisions and I sincerely hope you have a wonderful time.

I'll second that. We stayed there in November 2002 and thought it was a great value. We paid $39.95/nite for a very large one-bedroom suite. Our next trip is in November and we may stay there again. I would tend to agree with beautybelle that if I don't stay there, it isn't because there was anything wrong with the place but rather that I was able to find something nicer for not much more. For example, if I can get a 2-bed condo for $55/nite I would pick that over Days Suites for $40/nite.

We stayed there in April of 2002. We enjoyed walking around old town. We are staying there again this summer. Our room was great. Much more space than an anverage room. That is very important with a family of 5 plus my sister. It's great having a full eat in kitchen. I know there are many nicer places to stay, but it's important to us to stay together.I actually didn't know it was considered a "bad" place until I can here. Besides, you really can't beat the price. :)

We stayed there but spent all our time at WDW parks. Some close early but some are usually open to at least 8 or 9 p.m. Then by the time you actaully get to your car then back to the hotel, it can be 10 or 10:30.

Our experience. We stayed at the days inn suites at old town in September 2002. The rate was incredibly cheap, but the room did not resemble the online pics. It looked like it had seen a few too many spring breaks. After we checked in and read a note in the room about housekeeping and what you needed to do during your stay and that if you left the kitchen dirty you would be charged extra. We found half a six pack in the fridge. The cabinets were not completely clean. The bathroom had a slow toilet and a slightly leaky showerhead. The wall behind the murphy bed had a fist sized hole in it. One of the lights in the room did not work. I always give the room a once over on check in so I can notify the front desk of any problems, so I'm not blamed/billed for them later. We decided we could live with these things as we would not spending much time in the room. I can't say I remember any ant problems that some have mentioned.

On checkout day as we we're packing up our kitchen stuff, we found a bug in the cupboard. I'm no expert, it appeared to be a cockroach. I caught it in a cup, and took it to the front desk and showed it to them. They say it was some type of palm or palmetto bug ( it's been almost 2 years ). They ended up taking a few bucks off the bill for the bug and the fact that nobody ever came to clean the kitchenette. Our 6 day 5 night stay was apx. $225. They never really responded to complaints. Days Inn corporate sent me an e-mail in regards to my complaint saying that they regretted any problems, however, it was not a company owned facility, but they would pass my concerns on to the management. Yeah, right.

Put me on the side of people who would NEVER stay here again.

 What an AWFUL experience! BTW: palmetto bug is just another name for a cockroach. But it sounds better and doesn't freak out the tourists.

Yes, Palmettos are a member of the cockroach family. A couple of significant differences:

Palmettos grow much larger, as long as 3 inches.
Palmettos can fly!
Palmettos have an armored body so they are very tough to kill - you can't just squash it easily under your shoe.

By the way, I would not judge any Florida hotel based on presence of Palmetto bugs. They are all over the area. We've seen them onsite as well as offsite. Remember, it used to all be swamp land before Disney showed up.

Disney Steve should be a diplomat for the U.N.! :teeth:

Now I even know about palmetto bugs! LOL :bounce:
