OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

Can you post how long the rain lasts? We are coming on Sunday and I am curious if it rains for minutes or hours and solid or comes and goes. Thanks

*
It stopped raining about 5 p.m. EST. I do believe it rains every day for 30 minutes during the summer. THE SAB is back open till 11 p.m. tonight!

Over all VERY NICE

Dinner appetizers:

several different cheeses
grapes

Gazpacho (sp)
sliced apples
carmel sauce
peanutbutter and jelly for children.
assorted beers

- Side note we got there at 5:16 p.m. and it was very crowded, did not get a seat just took a plate back to the room. Went back at 6:00 had some wine, crowd disippated and we did get a nice seat. Everything is great, except there were some children out of control. They were opening and shutting the glass sliding door about 15 times if not more, standing on chairs, running around. All this while the father just sat at the table with other friends/relatives and did absolutely nothing.....Other than that everything is GREAT!

Will there be pictures in your TR? (of the laundry area - not the JW) :lmao:

I'll be happy with pictures of the JW Black!

We got here!!! We were originally booked for a CL GV at the BC and got a surprise when we checked in that we had been upgraded to a one bedroom suite! That has never happened so we are beyond ecstatic. Message me if you want to meet up.

congratulations and I hope the rest of your stay is just as magical. Keep the reports coming.

She is so cute and she looks like she is into everything, which I think is great!

Can't believe how big she is now!

Jay

Hey Jay ... met your relatives today. Super nice people!!!! And yep, Lily is into everything. Jeanne has her hands full. Bob and I are starting to Lily proof our house for her visit ... anything waist high or lower gets put into the junk room. I can just see her deciding to rearrange all my Disney snow globes.

:lmao: if I had only brought my camera that night! I think I may be a budding alcoholic because when I think about it, the idea of drinking scotch whiskey straight up by myself in a bar inside the Yacht Club IS one of the highlights of my trip and usually "drinking alone" is a sign... a sign that you have major issues.... hmmmm

BTW, Happy Independence Day to everyone, American or Not. I hope everyone is having a great holiday today! For me, right now the kids are in the pool and we're having potato salad and steak. Life is good....:banana::banana:

A day trip to Ogunquit, Maine would be awesome. We visit there frequently. Only an hour from us on the North Shore. Great beach, great places to eat, nice little shops.

Great place for a day trip.

Jay

I'm in Ogunquit now. Good location for a day trip.

That is AWESOME:cool1: Hope you have a great trip!

Whoa! DS would love the dude ranch! Looks awesome!

Hope my American friends enjoyed their holiday yesterday. Congrats for all the upgrades! Awesome!!! I'd be afraid to be upgrades to a suite - might spoil me for later visits. LOL!

Someone posted about giving a gift to the CM - I think Teena posted once that a non-tipped CM could lose their job if they accepted cash or a gift with a value over $75. I could have that monetary value wrong though!!! Maybe someone can clarify.

Have a great day everyone! The fact tomorrow is Friday of my third long weekend in a row is making me happy!

Great pics!!

Teena you and Jeanne look like naturals, especially with a gun in your hand!

The views are beautiful!

Jay

Congrats to everyone getting the upgrades!! I can only imagine how magical that feels. I had it happen once but in was on a trip to Pittsburgh for New Year's Eve. Even a non-Disney related upgrade felt great so it must be many times more magical at a Disney resort!!

Those pictures from Teena's trip are wonderful!! And the views were breathtaking. I don't know if I could venture out beyond Disney for our vacations but, if I did, I might have to consider a dude ranch. My DS would get a kick out of it. He loves anything that has to do with the outdoors.

Have a great day everyone!!

Wow Teena, The dude ranch looks like a piece of heaven on earth! I'm glad you and Jeanne enjoyed it! Imagine if Fort Wilderness had a dude ranch!?!

PS - We would love to get the CM a little token of our appreciation, any ideas? We gave the CM 2 years ago a little Coach change purse that I bought at the coach outlet. The CM's are just outstanding. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas let me know.

Thanks DISers! :)

Brunette

Sorry- I intended to respond to this yesterday, but forgot.

CMs in non-tipped positions are permitted to accept NON-CASH gifts with a value less than $75. I have been told that gift certificates are not considered to be cash, so they are an acceptable gift.

Since you are already there, it limits you to what you have access to.

For CL, I tried to think of a shared gift, so I brought gift bags with local treats from home. I also included a couple of Walmart gift cards.

Perhaps Disney gift cards or a gift certificate to a local pizza place that delivers would be a treat that some of the CMs could share.

Remember, I'm the ultimate Disney fan. We still book rooms at WDW. And cruises are our second vacation choice. I'm a beach girl.

The dude ranch was something I always wanted to try and I was so glad. I obviously know Disney service and it's the one thing that I was sure I'd miss at the dude ranch. They exceeded our expectations. I'm sure other dude ranches aren't the same as far as service. I've since talked to a few people that have gone to dude ranches and they were amazed when I told them of our experience at Elk Mountain. It was amazing.

Jeanne has absolutely no horse experience and other people there our week also were total novices. After the first day, if you find the longer trail rides are too long for your comfort level, then you just tell them and they will make other arrangements for you. One day, just me and a wrangler headed out alone for a shorter ride. The children's program is amazing. Or if you have a child that is old enough to go on the long rides, you don't have to put them in the children's program. You get one horse that they match to your personalty and that horse is yours all week. If you don't like the horse, however, they will switch it out immediately. They assign the horses to you after spending the first night just getting to know you. There is a wonderful horse orientation the first morning that even experienced riders will find enjoyable. The terrain you ride on is rough. You need cowboy boots and good strong jeans. But if you just want to do other things and not ride, they have activities other than riding almost every day.

If anybody is considering a vacation out of the ordinary, you should push yourself to do it before you are too old to really enjoy it. I wish Jeanne and I had done it years ago and she said she will definitely take Lily there for a mother/daughter vacation.

And everybody at the ranch EXCEPT Jeanne and I got high altitude sickness for at least one day and they pretty much lost that day. My family doctor went to a dude ranch high in the mountains and told me what we needed to do. She gave me a prescription for medicine that I took once a day for a week before flying to the ranch and every day while at the ranch. Jeanne wrote down the information and asked her doctor about it and got the same prescription. While we were there, everybody was asking why we were fine. It was the prescription. There are side effects but they are easy ones. Your feet the first week fall asleep off and on and the second week in the mornings your hands do the same thing. The real strange one was carbonated drinks. Anything carbonated tastes flat and has a metal taste - YUCK! Stick with lemonaide and water. One guy there our week was an iron man racer and he was down for a whole day --- headaches and upset stomach. The ranch has an elevation of 9600 and you ride up to 11000. The price of the white water rafting day long trip is included in the price for the week at the ranch. I didn't go because the water was rough (May and June) and I was afraid I'd mess up my lower back. Jeanne had an absolute ball and she was in a raft with ten year olds that loved it. If we had gone in July or August I probably would have tried it.

I am definitely counting down the days to our BC trip!

I'm happy to repor that the nutri system worked! I'm down 17 lbs (had 15 lbs as my goal).

Now I am ready to eat my way through Disney. Is it nuts that I'm dreaming of Mickey bars?

Teena - those pictures are breath taking!
