OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

As typical with my luck...I blew out my knee and will be having knee surgery to repair it in two weeks. That said, our August WDW trip will NOT be rescheduled. I don't care if I have to crawl through the parks, I will be there. :cool2: What's that old saying...a swollen knee in Disney is better than any knee at home, right? Well perhaps that's not 'exactly' how the saying goes...

I'll be almost one month post surgery for our trip. I'm an otherwise healthy and physically fit person and have had two knee surgeries in the past so the recovery is not new to me. As much as I hate to admit it, I think I'll need a wheelchair at least part of the time we're there - especially for the larger parks like Epcot and AK. I'm debating between renting one offsite and having it delivered or chancing it and borrowing one from the BC when we check in.

Anyone have any 'yeah, they have plenty of wheelchairs at the resort, you shouldn't have a problem getting one' or 'don't count on it, they only have 2 wheelchairs and they go quick' kind of stories to share? I know it's first come, first serve so there's no guarantee. Just curious to hear if anyone has some stories to share that will sway me in one direction over another. I'm pretty laid back so if I do decide to chance it and don't get one at the resort, I can always call an Orlanda rental company and have one delivered once we get there (they have a 24 hr turn around from what I understand).

Hi everyone! I love reading this thread in anticipation of my first BCV stay in September. I'm going with my DH, bio daughter who will be 3 and hopefully my foster daughter who will also be 3. I'm so excited. I've wanted to stay here for years but we always went with a big group and I would be overruled. I'm sure I will have a ton of questions as it get closer to departure day, but just wanted to say Hi!

From what I understand the wheelchairs at the resorts are in poor shape and aren't really meant for touring in the parks. Have you thought about renting an ecv? That way you don't have to rely on someone pushing you around. Either way I would rent from offsite. Better equipment and you know it will be there if you need it.

Excellent point and feedback - thank you! I hadn't even thought about the condition/quality aspect.

I really don't want to go the ECV route - honestly, I don't want the hassle on the buses. It takes so long to load them on and off. I'm hoping to not need the wheelchair all day long...just when I'm tired or sore. By that point post op, I should be back to a modified cardio workout routine (minimal impact) so I'm planning to walk through the parks part of my days. I just know I won't be able to do the long haul walking. My DH is willing and able to push me through the parks. I'm only 5 feet tall...the size of a 6th grader...he's been teasing me about renting a park stroller instead...he's so helpful. :rotfl:

I would avoid a wheelchair in the large parks if I could. I would rent an ECV in Epcot and AK. You get them going in and leave them on the way out so no bus issues.

May we add you to the Be Our Guest List on Page 1? What are your dates?

:cool1:

Sorry to hear about your knee.

I don't have any experience with the wheelchairs- either rental or the ones you can borrow from the resort- but I wanted to pass along best wishes for a quick recovery.

Hi Natebenma,
We have a slight change on our dates-added a day. :woohoo:
We're now Oct 3-8.

Can't wait! :yay:

Question: What time is the Movie on the Beach in October?

No luck- went back to the October 2011 thread, and my memory was refreshed- I was never able to get an October activities schedule.

Sept 2011 movie was at 8:30 and Nov 2011 the movie was at 7:00

So sometime between those two times.

So 7:45 for Oct. :rotfl:

Anyone at BC CL now or going REALLY soon? THis is an insane question. I want the mattress there! I talked to Neil on my way out and it is Sealy Encore 720. BUT when I call to order it there are two choices plush or pillowtop. I remember in my bed bug check one of the 2 BC CL rooms I had had pillowtop but I cannot remember if was the room I was in or the other room. Contacted IPO and they gave me a quick response that it was Plush but not sure if that was for all BC CL rooms or the one I had been in. So I am curious if anyone staying in BC CL has a pillowtoop or plush mattress. I want to order one but will scream if it is the wrong one....Thank you!!!

We'll be there July 18-28. If you can wait that long I'll be glad to check.

Wheelchair information - In 2010 my dd broke her leg in two different places. She had surgery and was in a long leg cast for 8 weeks! She got the cast off two days before we left for Disney. She didn't need a wheelchair full time after that but definitely for touring the parks. We rented one at home (great for using in the airport too). I didn't want to take a chance of not having one available at BC CL. It worked out well for us.

Hello everyone. I'm back home in California after the trip of a lifetime. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures and sift through the thousands of pictures I took, I will try to start posting them. I have an account on Flkr so I will try to access that and see if I can post some pictures I took of the resort.

Just some opinions about the Yacht Club...

It was amazing! My family and I had ADR's in the following other resorts:

Boardwalk
Contemparary
Grand Floridian
Polynesian

We enjoyed every one of those resorts; however, even after seeing each of them for a little while, we knew that we all felt the Yacht Club was the best. It was just the right level of luxory and leisure with the added benefit of being close to what became our family's favorite park... Epcot (and we also really enjoyed Hollywood Studios).

Stormalong Bay was spectacular and the Jib Slide was very cool. We did have a couple of issues with the room but really, all in all it was minor compared to how wonderful our stay was! I'm going to upload some Yacht Club (and the Beach Club ones) specific pictures and see if I can get them on here.

Hi everyone!!! This is my first post. :yay: I have been a long time lurker of this website and of course a long time Disney fanatic! I love this thread and have read all 117 pages. So much info. My family and I are planning a visit to the BC next year. We are planning on staying club level and I have a question for you experts. Is there a specific menu rotation of the nightly hor d'eouvres offerings or is it just random? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Laffites,
Welcome back! So glad you had a lovely vacation. Was there a Bounce Back offer in your room? Was it for dates in 2012, or were some some dates in 2013 included?
I totally agree about Epcot, there's really nothing like being able to walk there. :goodvibes

I would rent an ECV or at least a wheelchair MEANT for touring... The
"hospital type" chairs aren't meant to be in for long periods of time. Plus the heat with someone pushing you or you wheeling yourself an ECV would be the way to go.

Not to be negative, but what happens week 3 post op you do something to your knee in physical therapy, have a set back then you are scrambling to rent one, ect. If there are days where you don't need it, leave it at the resort.... kwim? Like rent one at guest services (a wheelchair) at DHS.

Just my 2 cents... based on trips in the summer to WDW and being a nurse...

Hi there. Yes, there was a bounceback offer in my room. I didn't take a picture of it so I'm going off memory. I believe it was something like 35% off a vacation for select dates in 2012. I did notice that it went all the way into December if that helps.

Thank you for the summary! Less than 4 months for us now until we're at YC. I can not wait! Like you, we'll be dining at several other resorts too, so I'll have to do a comparison.

Welcome! Did you also back and read earlier versions of this thread? There are so many of them that it could take you days.

kelleigh1 - No I did not do that. Do you have a link for the other thread or should I do a search? Sounds like a lot of fun reading all the threads. I do have some time to kill before our trip. Thanks
