Old, New & Long Lost Friends, with a Side of Frump! FINISHED! DL TR started 1.20.14!

The drawing of Daisy had me rolling! :rotfl: Has a very post-apocalyptic zombie look to it!

Have yet to have tried school bread even though I've heard about it so many times. Perhaps that will go on my to do list for October!

Hahahaha - Scott is a huge zombie fan, so I'm sure he'll love to hear your description of his picture!

It's definitely worth trying once (and then twice...and then a third time...)

Just came across your trip report today and got all caught up!

I love the drawing of Daisy Duck! Hilarious!

As for School bread. I want to love it. I really do. But I hate Coconut! So I guess that's never going to happen . . .

:welcome: Glad to have you hear! There's still more than half of the trip left to go, so there's plenty more to come!

The coconut is only on the top, and the flavor isn't used elsewhere, so you could always let someone else eat that bit, if you haven't ordered it yet because of the coconut presence!

Thanks for posting that video link!!! Ah, nostalgia! So much fun to see all that again!!

Hahahaha, evil Daisy has me cracking up!!!

I need a friend to try school bread just so I can get a taste. It doesn't look like something I'd like because I'm not a fan of custard fillings or anything that's like pudding, but everyone keeps raving about it that I at least want to know what it's all about!

You're welcome! I know somewhere in my parents house they also have a video from our 1990 trip which features a lot of the Imagination pavilion, so I will let you know if we ever get that uploaded as well!

Ahh, yeah, the filling is very much a pudding consistency. It's the kind of thing I can typically only handle in moderate amounts, but when combined with everything else in the schoolbread, I think the balance is perfect. I hope you can find someone to share one with you so you can give it a try!

I'm not an Epcot purist either, but I miss the rainbow tunnel SO MUCH. And as much as I love MJ, I really miss Honey I Shrunk The Audience too!

This Jess you speak of... eh, she seems okay.

HAHAHAHA EVIL DAISY DUCK! Omg. That is really hilarious. Now I'm going to be tempted to make alterations while in the animation class.

HAHAHAHAHA I seriously died over here at his drawing! SO FUNNY. That is an evil Daisy Duck!

Oh School Bread, how I love thee. Yours looks like the perfect one, too. I can't wait to eat them again in a few months!

Sounds like you had a great time with Jess! :goodvibes

Yesss - even though HISTA is SO dated at this point, I think the score they developed for it is fantastic.

I cannot wait to read all about your and Jess's adventures!!!! So happy you guys were able to spend so much time together (and that almost immediately following she got to have a frump reunion). The DisBoards is going to be ROCKING with amazing updates from everyone over the next few months!

Scott wants to know if they have an Animation Academy in Disneyland, LOL.

Ahhhh enjoy your school bread!! I wonder if it would stay fresh if I tried to have someone ship one from Florida to Maryland. Hm...

It really was! I'm incredibly bummed that I know she'll be gone the next time I have a chance to get down there =( One day we'll all be living in Orlando and this won't be a problem.

Caught up! HAHAHA the Daisy Duck pic is too funny!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Welcome back!!!! How much fun has it been going through everyone's trip reports to see what you'd been skipping over the past few months?

Before I get started on the next section of my trip report, I came across this Tumblr and I HAVE to share it with you guys: http://whenatdisney.tumblr.com/ It's hysterical and accurate and makes me want to be at Disney RIGHT NOW. I mean, I always feel that way, but this just adds a whole 'nother level to that. So go, click, enjoy!

Chapter 19: Reunited and it Feels So Good

After leaving Epcot, we went back to the room briefly - it had gotten a little chilly the evening before, so we both wanted to put on jeans and have a few moments of rest before heading out to DHS for the evening.

Yes folks, after a YEAR AND A HALF I was finally on my way to be reunited with my love, Gertie the Dinosaur!!

Animation3.gif

Most of you follow me on Twitter, so you are well aware of my love of my prehistoric princess, but for those of you who aren't, Gertie is my absolute favorite thing in all of Walt Disney World. She is the thing I remember most about my very first trip and I just love what she represents to animation in general. Oh Gertie.

As soon as our bus arrived in DHS, I was a woman on a mission.

SHE WAS IN MY SIGHTS!!!

GERTIEGERTIEGERTIEGERTIEGERTIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Folks, this is what pure, unadulterated happiness looks like.

img1045cd.jpg

I was perfectly content to stay and keep taking pictures, but the sun was starting to set and apparently Disney horrifyingly decided to make that a smoking area, and my asthma was having NONE of that.

Since we were in the area, we decided to head over to Star Tours.

2yxohmf.jpg

Scott and I had only ridden it once since they re-opened it as Star Tours - The Adventure Continues, so there were plenty of planets and scenes we hadn't seen yet!

3dzf.jpg

On our first ride, we got Kashyyk (the Wookie planet), Yoda, and the Death Star. After we exited the attraction, we realized we weren't really in a big rush to do rides - our main goal for the evening was to finally see Fantasmic for the FIRST TIME EVER, get some food, and I wanted to get in at least one run on Tower of Terror and Toy Story Mania. DHS had evening EMH's that evening, so I had no doubt we'd have enough time to fit everything in without rushing.

As we were wondering, I decided to make a quick side trip over to the Street of America to see the second most most popular landmark (Gertie being the first, obvs.). Behold, the toilet paper tree!

Scott and I were both starting to get hungry, and semi-frustrated that so many of the counter service places in DHS started to close even before EMH began. Eventually we made our way back around towards Sunset Boulevard.

img6936ib.jpg

Before decided what to eat, I ran over to Tower of Terror and was able to get a Fast Pass for 7:35, which would give me just enough time to ride it before Fantasmic started.

It had been a long time since I had eaten Disney chicken nuggets, so even though there were a few other more interesting menu items, as soon as I saw them on the menu, I had to order them. Scott apparently felt the same way I did and ordered some too.

img6938sb.jpg

Based on the Splenda in that picture, I'm guess I also got a coffee?

We sat at one of the tables by Rosie's All American Cafe, just enjoying being in my favorite Disney park and my proximity to my favorite attraction, Tower of Terror.

@GertieTheDino89 Love having the music of Hollywood Boulevard in the background while we eat dinner. Maybe one day that dinner will be on the ToT terrace...

After we finished eating, there was still some time before I could use my Fast Pass, and even though I loooove ToT, it's not something I want to go on immediately after eating, so we decided to do some more park wandering...which naturally led us back to Gertie.

img6942y.jpg

I bet this is the most number of Gertie photos in one trip report update on TheDis ever. At least, it will be until I get to Day 5...

img6943e.jpg

We walked by Star Tours and decided to check out another of our favorite attractions, Muppet Vision 3-D!

I finally remembered to show Scott where they had the key under the doormat - he loves the little details like that which they have throughout the park.

34qwzg5.jpg

When we entered, there weren't many other people in the room, so this was also one of the few times I was able to really walk around and check out some of the props they have throughout the pre-show area.

I stopped taking pictures long enough to watch some of the pre-show - it's probably one of my favorite pre-shows of any WDW attraction.

img6957rw.jpg

img6963i.jpg

The entire attraction is pretty much perfect. I know there are some people who think that they should do an update, especially since the Muppets franchise has been getting a resurgence over the past few years thanks to the new movies, but I think the comedy still really holds up, and I love that it's a place where you can still regularly hear and see Jim Henson and the other original puppeteers bringing these characters to life.

Haha, I've never seen so many pictures of Gertie in one place before! I've also never seen the toilet paper tree! I kind of want to see that too.

There are times when I really want those chicken nuggets too, and for me, it just makes more sense at DHS when there aren't as many options as the other parks. I love dipping, so that means having as much sauce as I want makes me a happy camper!

Whoa, hold up. NEVER seen Fantasmic before? I hope that you ended up enjoying it!!! It's my all-time favorite nighttime show and one of my favorite things to do in Disney altogether! I think there's something so magical about grown men screaming, "YEAH, MICKEY!" during the finale. Haha, it seriously brings out the kid in everybody!

I adore all those pics of the Muppets pre-show room! I want to examine all the details myself one day, but we seem to always go when it's super crowded and just have to stay in one place. Maybe we should try at nighttime too!

Scott wants to know if they have an Animation Academy in Disneyland, LOL.

Yes, they do! And there is a sign out front telling you which characters will be drawn at each session, so you can do some planning on which character should get a demonic makeover! :thumbsup2

On to the update...

So I take it you like Gertie the Dinosaur? :lmao: The one of you jumping in excitement in front of Gertie is frame worthy.

LOVE me some Muppets 3D!! The preshow is fantastic, and I agree with you, probably the best one of any show in WDW. The props and gags in there are awesome. I always find something new when we are waiting for the show to start.

Toilet paper tree!!?? WHAT!!?? I need to see this! OMG!

Oh Gawd I totally agree. I do NOT understand why the restaurants close SO DARN EARLY at MGM (DHS). It's nuts!

I think Muppets needs to stay EXACTLY as is. I think was Jim Henson's very last project so it should never change. :goodvibes

HAHAHA, Oh Gertie.  She and I were chatting about you on Sunday. She said she missed you! (I also got a really great picture of her that I think you'll enjoy.)

DISNEY CHICKEN NUGGETS. They're just too good!

Muppet Vision is the best, oh goodness. I never got to do it last week because there was an actual long line every time I walked past! I was not having that. Now I'm sad. BOO! I'm with you though. It'd be such a shame if they changed the show.

First off, I LOVE your Gertie jumping shot! The sun! Your expression! The action jump! It's all perfect! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you got chicken nuggets for dinner, because let's be honest- Disney chicken nuggets are the best. Seriously. DSis and I got them twice on our last trip :goodvibes (In our defense we got them once with carrot sticks and once with french fries so we tried to break it up a little :rolleyes1 )

I'm so excited to hear what you think of Fantasmic! Can't believe its your first time!!

LOL a friend of mine on Twitter first pointed out the toilet paper tree to me, and ever since it's kind of become a bit of a running joke. I love that they have random toilet paper tissue squares falling with the leaves, hahaha. Whoever designed that is my kind of person.

Nope, never seen Fantasmic! During all of our previous Disney trips, Fantasmic was only playing once or twice a week, and we could never get it to work out! Happy that they finally went back to showing it nightly.

Great update! :goodvibes

Thank you!

Awesome, thanks for the info! Scott will be thrilled :lmao:

I loooooooooove Gertie. I don't think I can accurately explain it, but seeing her gives me the same reaction most people have when they see Cinderella Castle or Spaceship Earth. I wouldn't be mad if they moved her in place of the big hat at DHS, that's all I'm saying....

It's over in the Streets of America. in the New York area!

Right? It's really frustrating, especially in a park where a lot of attractions also close when the sun sets. Hopefully that will improve with some of the rumored updates that might be coming to DHS...

I had forgotten that was Jim Henson's last project! That just adds another level to the reasons why it should stay.

Thank you! I love that picture too - it's probably my favorite one from the entire trip!

Yes, they are. Sometimes you don't need anything unique or fancy, just an old standby that you know won't let you down.

You'll get to hear soon!

I love how much you love Gertie. It's great to see someone jumping up and down excited over something that doesn't usually cause such a stir in people.
WOW the sky in your Streets of America pictures. Awesome!!!

Oh, Disney chicken nuggets. The best. And that music is the best thing in the history of the world, how enjoyable to enjoy dinner while listening to it! AHH.

Aww, look at Gertie's eyes glowing! I didn't remember that they do that even though I've probably seen it a million times.

They really don't need to update the Muppets. Like, I love the new Muppet movie but I wouldn't if I had to erase the old Muppet movies in order to see it, you know? I'd be sad if I could never see the original one again. I remember seeing it when I was 5! People are always so obsessed with what needs an update. I'm like, can we just relax on the updating for awhile?

Gertie rocks! I remember we had Dinosaur Jack at DCA but sadly he is gone now.

Haha, thank you! Part of me hopes that if I'm excited enough about her, other people will get excited and maybe they'll finally put her on a t-shirt. Fingers crossed for the 25th Anniversary next year!

And speaking of loving things, I love how much you love ToT - not just the ride itself, but all of the atmospheric elements that make it such an amazing attraction and setting.

I AGREE. Someone reminded me that MuppetVision 3-D was one of the last things Jim Henson did before he passed away; in my mind, that is reason enough not to change it.

I know, I heard about that! Overall from pictures I've seen of the park, it looks like the changes they made to DCA to revamp the park have been for the better, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that I never got to see Dinosaur Jack.
