I bought a pair of jeans at Old Navy and I have lost the receipt. I have never worn them, I just need to go down a size in them. They are just a little too big. Will they just let me swap the size? I still want the jeans, just a smaller size.

As long as the jeans still have the hang tag and the same item is in stock they will let you exchange them :thumbsup2

Yes, you can exchange them if the tags are still attached with no problem. :) if you don't have the tags but they are clearly brand new, they will probably let you do an even exchange anyway.

If you used a CC, they can look up your receipt if the jeans were purchased within the last 60 days.

Actually you have to have a receipt. No even exchanges without them unless you get a manager to override, which they really aren't suppose to do. They can look it up if you paid with a credit/debit card, check, or giftcard.
The reason for this is because shoplifters often take the first item they see, and then come back to exchange for the right size.

Callie is right.

You do need a reciept or have used a credit/debit card to pay. They can look that up.

If you paid check or cash, without a reciept, you will have to ask for a manager and if you are really sweet, talk highly of the brand they will most likely override. Keep your eye out for a helpful salesperson and they will do their best to help you. Act like you really need their assistance and they happily take care of you. Act like you may want an Old Navy Store Credit Card and they'll be your best friend:)

However, if it looks like an even exchange is not going to happen, please do not freak, but be prepared to be issued a "refund check". Under quite a few circumstances if you are do not have reciept and are not eligible for balance to be put on gift card, then the cashier is required to get your driver's license and mailing info. You will recieve your refund in the form of a check payable to you that you can then deposit/cash at your bank.
It is hard to believe that this is a chain store's policy in todays world but I have seen it happen.

Keeping reciepts are so important.

One tip given to me was to use one of those small accordian coupon holder and keep reciepts in there under categories and then after a few months move them into permanent files.

Good luck and keep us posted how it turns out.

P.S. Don't get me started on their shoplifting policy (or should I say lack of action). It blows my mind.:confused3

My Old Navy is now emailing copies of receipts at checkout, if you give them an email address. I've used that copy (on my phone) to return things. Much easier than keeping up with paper receipts!

Missnic,

That is right!! Thank you for reminding me. In an effort to go paperless, they are emailing the reciepts.

Aslo, giving the cashier your email address is a great idea so you will be get notices of all sales, especially the one day wonder.s:thumbsup2

Actually w/o a receipt they get store credit by mail, not a check. Its just like in-store credit. The only time you get a check by mail is if you pay by check and return something
