Old Magicband Tips

I find the time we mostly have problems with the bands are when our room is as far away from the front desk as possible or if it’s late at night. Maybe that’s just me. I do deactivate older bands. us take 4 bands with me per trip

Well, I'll play Devil's Advocate here.

I've read here on the Dis that, "You have too many Magic Bands active in your account" is just a line. Cast members say it whenever Magic Bands don't work properly. The guest hears it as a reason for the problem, and they assume it is correct.

I bet there are people with a lot of active Magic Bands who have no problems, and people with only a few Magic Bands who have a lot of problems.

This is me. Never had a problem...knock on wood..with any of my magic bands so far. Have tons still active.

We too had many Magic Bands and experienced just such issues more than a few times. It was very frustrating. We were told different things by different Cast Members. Deactivating most of them in MDE did nothing to help the door issue. On one of our last trips, I sat down, back against the door, after hailing a bunch of luggage up, and sent my better half to deal with the issue when the door would not unlock upon arrival.

We were told that with all the bands that we have in the system, simply deactivating them would do nothing for the door issue (they always worked in the parks). Though they were 'deactivated', the computer still saw them. The resort system would cycle through all the bands in the file, and after a period 'time out' . They also said that they could 'permanently' deactivate them, though we'd have to let Disney keep and destroy them. This did not sit well with us. I suggested to Eve that we bring all the bands we would no longer use down on the next trip, but instead of Disney destroying them, we would ask them permanently deactivated and then use a special punch to mark them, so we could take them back home to use as Christmas garland.

I found one wonderful Cast Member at Kidani who said that whoever told us that Disney had to destroy them was wrong, and that was silly. She also told us that each resort has at least one large garbage bag to dispose of everyday from bands either left behind or never picked up at the desk. She spent quite some time 'killing' each of the ones we chose to never use again, and then I kept them separate. I wrote her a glowing recommendation, and that (so far) has fixed the issue. Good luck....
