Me and my family are heading back to WDW this June for the 2nd time this year, with the 1st being in February. We usually do Disney once a year due to the ages of our children (4 and 6), in fact my little girl who is 4 will have been to Disneyworld 5 times after this trip! We have stayed at the CBR, ASmo, WL, and AKL with AKL being our favorite to date. We are considering OKW this go-round for something a little difference and to maybe get a feel for DVC opportunities, most probably a lot more Disneyworld in our future. Anyone out there can offer any advice on OKW verses other Disney Resorts?

Thanks to all,

Bill

Check out OKW on the DVC Vacation forum.

I first bought into DVC at OKW. It is extremely relaxing, having somewhat of a South Sea Islands atmosphere. The buildings are more like condos, very roomy and parking is available virtually outside your door. It is the largest DVC currently available. One of my favorite activities there is to ride their boat to Downtown Disney. Like the other DVC, there are bikes to rent, hoops, the pools, (quiet); I'd have to look myself at what other activities you can do there.

It's a beautiful resort but as I wrote earlier, does not have the hustle and bustle of many of the other resorts.

I heard that the Old Key West bus system is long. I've booked there already. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

WHile many people do use the busses and report them to be about average for resorts, OKW is set up so that using a car is very easy. The ability to park outside your unit can't be beat.

You can design all kinds of plans.

One thing we will do is park at Epcot in the morning, gat right on the monorail and go to MK. Maybe stop for breakfast at GF 1900 Park Faire, maybe not, spend the day in MK and then have dinner in a monorail resort on the way back to Epcot. Spend the night at Epcot and have your car right outside the gate because you got there so early.

There are all kinds of variations.

Personally, I haven't noticed any problems with the bus service. I know that others have said that, but I didn't think that it was any slower than the other resorts. We love OKW and the spaciousness and the easy parking.

I've always found the OKW buses to be the same as those at every other resort. Sometimes you hit 'em right and sometimes you have to wait a bit.

I just had some guests stay at OKW two weeks ago. They have stayed at various resorts at WDW but this was the first time they stayed at OKW. (In a one-bedroom, they were wowed to say the least.) I asked them "How were the buses?" She acted puzzled and said they were just fine. They used them all the time. And then she mentioned how a few years ago they had problems getting stuck on the monorail. So, WDW transportation has pluses and minuses all the time at all the resorts.

I am a DVC member and OKW is my home resort. I love it there!!!! The units are very roomy, and the fact that your car is parked right in front of your unit is great! I have used the bus service, and I've not had a problem with it. Someone said it's a South Seas feel...it's a trpoical feel, but to me more like a laid back Key West ambience(hence the name!;) ) as opposed to South Seas, which I think is more the Poly. The decor is very bright and light, a mix of pastels and vibrant colors, which is very inviting. I don't think you'd be disappointed at all.
