Old Key West (OKW) deluxe studios

preferred rooms are based on location- they are closer to the lobby and main swimming pool area.
They aren't preferred, just a separate booking category. Those villas, near Hospitality House area, are Bldg 11-14 and 23-26. They are not a request, so you can't just call and ask for one of those villas. They are a DVC points booking category and cannot be booked with a cash reservation.

Those buildings are far from my preferred location at OKW. 23-26 might be okay, but I wouldn't want 11-14 because of the noise from the buses and the difficulty in parking. With a lack of parking at the HH, guests will park near those villas taking up the spaces for the guests who are staying in them.

Is coffee provided as well? Any idea what brand it is? DH may need to bring his own. I prefer OJ. :-)
If you bring your own, you will need flat bottom basket style filters, like Mr Coffee. Those are not provided. Usually 10-12 cup size, but studios might have 4-6 cup size as well. If you want a larger one, just ask Housekeeping to bring a larger one.

I own 300 points at VWL and have stayed there ONCE in 16 years.....while staying at OKW almost 30 times, if that gives you any indication of how much we love everything about OKW!!!!

Like I said, there are no preferred rooms. They might be your idea of preferred, but not mine. Just a booking category. They are not labeled as preferred with DVC literature.

we always book near the hospitality house.....however the bus system in key west make it so that any bus that goes by will eventually stop at the hospitality house prior to leaving the resort, which makes getting to and from the HH very easy from everywhere in the reosort

So if I can't request Buildings 11 - 14 or 23 - 26 but I want to be near the HH, what do you suggest? We will not be driving or parking on property.

Which building do you prefer to stay in? If you've been there almost 30 times, I'm sure you have a favorite spot. :-)

Go to the first page of this thread and check out Spiceycat's post. She's posted a map of OKW that you can look at to see what other buildings you might want to request. 27 is close to the Peninsular Road bus stop and right next to 26. If you want to go anywhere at OKW, just hop the first bus to a theme park and get off at the Hospitality House. You can catch a boat to Disney Springs from here. You can dine at Olivia's here. You can swim at the themed pool here. Check out the map like I suggested days ago.

Ok so my request is what's often completely backwards from everyone else ... I've studied the maps and can't quite figure out which building will be best for what we would like.

AWAY from bus, food, any road noise .. basically what we want is a quiet area away from the bustle that most people like .. you know, the NON-preferred rooms :P We'll be spending 2 weeks at the end of January and I'm hoping it won't be overly busy anywhere (crossing fingers tightly that the pro-football game doesn't impact crowds at the parks too much other than the parade day) As my ticker says, this is a sanity break for hubby!

Check the map referenced in Spiceycat's post on the first page. Check out South Point, near the end of the road where the path is located towards Disney Springs. Quiet, away from the buses and all traffic. Close to the pools, but they probably won't be busy in mid-January. Hopefully, you will be after the marathon (January 4-8).

PERFECT! Thanks for the help, i'll mark down the 50's in my little book that goes everywhere with me right now. Yes, the marathon will be long since done this time around (last year smack dab in the middle of our trip and the year before? we hit the F & W one as well eeek) I had carefully chosen a time with nothing "extra" and then Disney announced they will be hosting the Pro-Football game. Won't bother us much since we will be spending most of our trip doing as little as possible!

Deb & Bill, thank you so much for your input so far. Believe me, I have checked out the map numerous times - printed it, highlighted on it, written on it in every color of ink that I could find!

I'm paying cash for OKW. Does mousekeeping come by every day with new towels, tidy up the room, etc? If not, how often do they come?

I am a hospitality house guy....there is not a building in that zone that I like over any other. The walk is easy and convenient

No they do not....i believe they come by on Wednesdays...but I may be off on that....but i can say for certain it will probably only be once.....you can request new towels if you need them, we just throw them in the wash with out other stuff

My understanding is that if you're staying as a cash reservation thru Disney then YES you will get daily housekeeping. Have a great time!

My favorite buildings are 37 and 43, Turtle Pond Road. There is no bus traffic outside these buildings, very quiet and nice pond views.

If you booked with cash through Disney Reservation Center and not DVC, you will get a daily full housekeeping. They will change your sheets every three or four days.

If you booked with cash through DVC, you get the same services as a points stay, every four days.
