Old Favorites at DLR

Fort Wilderness! What a tragedy! The sky tram, separate Autopias, Keel Boats and all the things already mentioned!

Oh those fritters take me back!

Give Yesterland.com a look.

I, too, miss the Tahitian Terrace. It was tradition that we ate the teriyaki chicken every trip. I loved the atmosphere.

I also miss the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse, Country Bears Jamboree, and the People Movers. But I'm glad I can visit these old favorites at WDW.

Also gone but was a favorite to browse through was the kitchen store in NOS. I never bought anything there but I always liked to look.

I remember that kitchen store in NOS - it was kind of tucked away in a 'back alley' of sorts. And I also don't think I ever bought anything there - I might have bought a book once - but I always told myself I would buy something eventually. I liked the fact that it was there.

Which brings me to another shop that is woefully gone, which I miss...the year-round Christmas shop in FL. Yes, I know there is the holiday shop in NOS now, but it is not the same to me. I liked the one in FL. It belonged in FL. It seemed to fit perfectly there. I liked knowing it was there, just like the the kitchen shop in NOS.

I miss the old Disneyland Gallery in the NOS location. Yes, I know that the Dream Suite is there now, and if there were a way to keep the Gallery in that same spot and ADD the Dream Suite there, I would be all for that, but I don't like the Gallery being in a different location.

Yes, I was sad to hear that the Dream Suite took over the Gallery location. Where is the Gallery now?

Most of my old favorites have already been mentioned but I'd like to add:

The Motor Boat Cruise
America Sings
Rainbow Caverns Mine Train
One of a Kind Shop

Oh, yeah...I liked the kitchen store, too! I used to get the bottled pre-made Mint Julep mix to take home! And I still have a couple of cookbooks from there, and some Mickey Mouse cupcake paper cups :) Wish they'd bring it back...I loved that store!

I have not seen it yet but I hear there is a new Gallery set up somewhere on Main Street but it is not really as large or interesting as the old one in NOS.

Just thought of something else I miss - Candy Cane Lane at the Disneyland Hotel around the holidays. As soon as they revamped the hotel and got rid of all the other good stuff in the late '90s, they also did away with Candy Cane Lane at Christmas. I really liked it! I keep thinking there is potential for a new CCL on the pathway between DLH and PPH and on the surrounding walkways, but they haven't done it yet.

By "old" I mean rides, attractions, food, etc that are no longer at DLR. I'm sure there's been other threads on this subject but I was just thinking the other day of some of the things I miss at the parks:

- Rocket Rods in Tomorrowland
- Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Banana Creme Brule at Storytellers :cloud9:
- Stromboli's restaurant at DLH (DH and I went there for our 1st anniversary)
- Blast at DCA

Anyone else have ones they want to share?

i for one LOVED the rocket rods...I remember hearing so many times how it was shut down for this or that but I never ever experienced any problems...so that is one...

Monorail Cafe..DLH
Fantasy Water Show...DLH
people mover..DL
the "original" sub ride

I remember that kicthen store in NOS - it was kind of tucked away in a 'back alley' of sorts.

oh i remember that store....they sold cafe du monde products in there...I always bought the beignet mix for me and the chickory coffee for my aunt

I miss
-the recently removed beef stew in a bread bowl from French Market
-the PeopleMovers (although I can live without the Tron part)
-Big Thunder Ranch (I hated it when I was a kid, but I would sure love it now!!)
-Fort Wildnerness on Tom Saywers Island ( I peeked back there once a few years ago and saw Donald "hanging" from the wall. That should be better covered!!)

I think I vaguely recall seeing the beignet mix in there. I was just talking to my friend in New Orleans the other day, who was telling me about chicory coffee and how he can't drink any other kind of coffee but that kind. I have never had it, so if it were still sold in NOS, I would get some just to try it at home! I do recall that they sold Mickey-shaped pasta, but I think you can still get that in other shops like the Market House.

My favorites were the mine train, the Indian village, America Sings, Mission to Mars, Monsanto House of the Future, the horses, the hover craft -- which were almost always broken -- and Autopia.

I miss the Inner Space ride. I used to love that one!

Also miss that 50's diner at DLH. LavenderPeach, do you remember when we went there? It had a juke box and the prices were very good. They had hamburgers and milkshakes and cherry coke. It was fun and inexpensive.

That's Monorail Cafe, right? Great BBQ chicken sandwiches, great onion rings, fabulous milkshakes and burgers. I am MAD that they got rid of that place. It had excellent food for decent prices.

Oh, I loved the Fantasy Water Show! I was just thinking about that one the other day too when I was reading the post about what not to miss at DLH because I used to love over there to see the free show.

Yes, that was the Monorail Cafe. I don't remember what I got but I remember it was good.

I just barely remember the Inner Space ride. I was only 5 when i went on it and I think it was gone by the time I went back several years later.

If you have a Cost Plus store nearby, they sell Cafe Du Monde chicory coffee there, along with the beignet mix!

I miss the people movers and Captian EO. I always wanted one of those flying creature things that were just so darn cute. I also miss being able to do roundtrips on the monorail.

Really? Well, my New Orleans friend will be happy to know that the next time he is out here. He has turned into a chicory coffee snob. I am surprised that New Orleans Square in DL doesn't still try to carry the Cafe Du Monde products somewhere in one of the shops because I would think that they would be big sellers. I mean, it wouldn't fit to sell them in the holiday shop or in a knick-knack shop but it seems like they could work them in somewhere! I have never had a beignet, so I might make my first one the Mickey one at DL!

i miss the rocket rods, too. only got to ride them once, and waited in line almost 3 hours! but they were fun.

journey to inner space
america sings (is that what it was called?)
country bear jamboree
eagle flight (or whatever those cable cars were called)

i don't think i ever got to see those flying saucers that hovered on air (my first visit to DL was in '79), but those really sound like they must have been pretty cool.

Oh YEAH! Rocket Rods.. i was trying to think of the name of them whilst reading this topic.. i loved that ride.. loved it..

I never experienced a problem with it either, but like you i heard about it.

I also miss the old space mountain.. mostly the music. i think it would be cool to have the old song used.. like every 9th car to leave gets the old music.. just through it in there..
