Old Favorites at DLR

Yes, I was sad to hear that the Dream Suite took over the Gallery location. Where is the Gallery now?

Besides Disneyana on MS, the other "gallery" type place is at the exit of the 50 Magical Years movie. It's also where the artist watches are at since they took Timepieces away.

My old faves:
People Mover
Skyway
Rocket Rods
Country Bear Jamboree
Toontown Trolley (when it used to work)
old skool Goofy's Kitchen (even though it was smaller, it looked cooler)

Newer oldie:
the breaded chicken w/ crawfish sauce at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen

Soon to be oldie:
Small World (I just want the old version!!!)

Really? Well, my New Orleans friend will be happy to know that the next time he is out here. He has turned into a chicory coffee snob. I am surprised that New Orleans Square in DL doesn't still try to carry the Cafe Du Monde products somewhere in one of the shops because I would think that they would be big sellers. I mean, it wouldn't fit to sell them in the holiday shop or in a knick-knack shop but it seems like they could work them in somewhere! I have never had a beignet, so I might make my first one the Mickey one at DL!

Yes, they have the CDM products at Cost Plus, on the food aisle! The chicory coffee is GOOD!

You can make beignets without a mix; they're fairly easy to make at home...though it might be kind of challenging to make Mickey beignets at home!

I loved the subs as a little girl...the mermaids were my favorite part! I was so sad when they shut it down. I havent been on Nemo yet, but I guess it will be neat to just get in the sub again.

I also loved the rocket rods...I always wondered what happened to them, they were only there once. I thought "did I dream up the whole thing?!?!" Why DID they take it down?!

I miss the old Disneyland Gallery in the NOS location. Yes, I know that the Dream Suite is there now, and if there were a way to keep the Gallery in that same spot and ADD the Dream Suite there, I would be all for that, but I don't like the Gallery being in a different location.

Taking down the Gallery is one of the most disrespectful things done by the current powers that be at Disneyland. It was just wrong. If it weren't for Walt and the art, there would be nothing. The Gallery NEVER should have been taken down.

The Rocket Rods were hastily designed and built without the proper funding and because of that they used the existing tracks from the People MOver which were flat (not banked) and were ill-suited to support the new Rocket Rod vehicles. Once the ride opened it was constantly breaking down and having all kinds of engineering problems that eventually resulted in the Eisner brass just scrapping the entire attraction.

If Disney either ponied up the money themselves or were able to secure a corporate sponsor they would have been able to design an entirely new track in the place of the PM track that would have been built to handle the RR cars and we would still have the RR. Or, if they had just not done anything and left the PM alone we would atleast have the PM still in use. As it turned out we are left with neither and to add to it we even have the remnants remaining in the form of the old tracks to remind us what has been lost and / or what could have been.:sad2:

I am glad you agree, Disney Dreams! I actually felt guilty complaining about not liking the removal of the Gallery from that location because I know that the Dream Suite has brought so much happiness to those who have won a stay in it, and it is a lovely location for a Suite....but, truth be told, I really miss the Gallery in that spot! Sometimes, certain restaurants and shops work so well BECAUSE of their location, and if they are moved to another spot, the magic has been lost. It is sort of like breaking a spell, in a way, like they are SUPPOSED to be where they are for a reason. It helps the flow of things - it is like the feng shui of Disneyland! I tend to think that many things would be different (changed or unchanged) if Walt were still alive and if he still had a say. Imagine what DCA would have been (it might have never been DCA!) if Walt's input, or even a direct Disney descendant's guidance, had been at the helm of any new developments at DLR, rather than Eisner, etc.

I loved America Sings when I was little. Now I just have to satisfy my American Sings obsession by watching it on YouTube and riding Splash Mountain over and over...
