I recently found some pictures of a visit to Disney World from August 1982. My grandmother lived in Orlando and my sister and I were visiting her and for our birthdays -both in August - she took us to Disney World for the day. Back then it was just the Magic Kingdom but Epcot was going to open in October so we got to take the monorail over to see a little preview of Epcot. When I first looked at the pictures I couldn't understand why I only had pictures of the entrance to Epcot then it dawned on me why
They sell something similar to the old balloons now. They last a lot longer than just a regular balloon and aren't as prone to pop but do cost about $10. (But I still love the old balloons.)
I got this last December which is why is has snowflakes on it.
I remember those balloons too! We went in Feb of 85 and my mom and dad forgot it was my sister's 2nd bday until we were halfway thru the day!! All she got was one of those balloons and we had to pop it to bring it home on the plane!!
I grew up in Florida so every school trip, church youth group trip and weekend trip was there. (WOO HOO!! ) Went many many times and loved it!! Anyway, I dug up a couple of pictures.
This one is from 1976 - as you can see by the huge flower eagle 1776-1976 layout.
A scene of Fantasyland (IASW) in the same year I believe.
Looking from Fantasyland to Space Mountain with the Skyway overhead!
A Christmas show from 1978, I believe. Notice the orchestra down front!
And, as someone else previously mentioned, back then, the characters just "showed up" out of nowhere and walked around. There were no scheduled spots to see them. Here was a chance encounter with the "first couple" - ha!

I think the balloons that people were mentioning are the same kinds that they're giving away during the "What Will You Celebrate?" Tour. From the videos and pictures I've seen they look to be the same ones.

From 1978. These are pictures from Mickey's 50th anniversary parade. its fun to see how the characters looked back then! I will also post so non character pictures later on.
This picture came out weird, its like a combination of 2 pictures. My sister was in love with Grumpy and sort of went to see him during the parade!!!
Depends on when the photo was taken (month, day of the week, time). I've seen Fantasyland look just as deserted recently (i.e. last week) during the 3:00 Parade.
It's amazing how much younger Mickey looks today than he did years back. I think it's quite obvious that his ears have had work and I'm quite sure he also has found the magic Botox
