Old Cabins or whatever they were called back then

I remember awhile back seeing on this forum where someone in the Orlando area had bought most of the old trailers and had opened a Rv Park. The pictures showed a pretty nice park with the old trailers..

We stayed in those a couple of times when the kids were little. The weird thing is that I don't think we took advantage of any of the fantastic amenities at the Fort back then. I think we did the campfire but I don't remember anything else about it.

The seller has 53 of them. I bet it is that park west of Orlando that is selling them.

ETA: I found the website of the place...if this is even the seller. http://www.villageflorida.com/index.html

I looked at the park on Google Maps, and it looks like they have LOTS more than 53 of these things to rent. So, these are either different ones for sale, or maybe the parks is selling just some of them to replace with something newer.

Upon further review, I'm not sure the ones for sale are from La Casa Del Sol. This pic from the eBay listing doesn't look anything like the setup of the units at La Casa. It has aluminum or wood skirting around it and freestanding stairs. The ones at La Casa are on concrete pads with no skirting.

They do look similar. Just the bottom picture looks like they completed the outside, made it more uniform. So it's the same trailer, not the right park.

I'd love to have one of those, as long as the insides still original.

When they were transitioning from these cabins to the "now" cabins, Disney held an auction to sell the old cabins - fully stocked. One of my telco customers bought 20 of them for $3K each and opened a camp in Western North Carolina. It cost him $2K per trailer to have them hauled and set up. He rented them out for $50/night back in around 1993. Nice investment, I'd say. I wonder if he's still in business?

ETA: This was a common single wide sold by Fleetwood to anyone back in the 80's. The only thing Disney ordered special in them were the murphy beds in the living room and of course - the decor. Other than that, anyone could buy one stock from Fleetwood. We have lots of old trailer parks here in central Florida that you can find this trailer in.

I think the price is pretty high considering they're 17 years old. If you look at pic 2 it looks like that pic was taken when they were still at the fort possibly. The picnic tables sure look familiar as does the trees in the background.

I didn't look at the link at first. Yes...this is way too expensive. Rick has 2 fully set up, fully furnished mobile homes in his park that are going for that price. Also - I think those cabins are older than 17 years old. At least the ones at the Fort. That's around the time Disney started pulling the old Fleetwood's out, and they had been there for at least 10-15 years by that time.

Donnie- Thanks for posting this. I agree with you- that price is nuts considering the age of these trailers.

And, I agree, this photo is definitely of when they were in the Fort:

I think they are trying to use the Disney name to put a premium on them.

I wonder if there is anything "Disney" left in them.

Didn't they start to remove them around 1998-99. I was researching a trip for 2000 and when I was looking into staying at a cabin, wdwig.com, the precursor to allears, was saying that at the time they were finishing up replacing the old cabins and installing new. By our Aug 2000 they were all gone.

Here's the info

What are the Fort Wilderness Cabins like and what are the rates?

The 1999 rates for Wilderness Cabins can be found by clicking here. Fort Wilderness is in the process of replacing the old Wilderness Homes with new manufactured homes called Cabins. The Wilderness Cabins (WC) (via Disney.com) are about the same size as the old Homes with essentially the same layout. The major differences are that the new Cabins come with a wood deck on the outside, a second television, a VCR and a dining table that seats six. The new Cabins also feature a safe, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and portable crib. All Cabins come with a fully equipped kitchen, including microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker, a full bathroom and a separate vanity in the bedroom and a living room with sofa and color television. For a complete kitchen inventory click here. The new Cabins also have "enhanced wilderness theming" which includes furniture that appears to be made from branches and a log cabin-like veneer exterior. Also, all Cabins come equipped with bunk beds in the bedroom in addition to the double bed, and therefore, will all sleep 6 persons. The Homes on loops 2700, 2800 and part of loop 2500 will not be immediately replaced as they are still under lease agreements with the Fleetwood company. Plans are to change these out by spring or summer of 2000. None of the Wilderness Cabins are set up to be handicap accessible.

That's about the time they finished changing them out. They started in the mid-90's. Early 1994 is the first I remembered because they had one loop closed (don't remember which loop) and lots of construction going on when we took my mom to FtW for the first time. She became very ill shortly after our trip so that's why the time frame is so easy for me to recall. Also - in 1993 I was working for GTE in Sarasota, Fl. We handled calls for the W. No. Carolina area, and a guy had just bought 20 cabins at auction and was setting them up for a campground in the Henderson, NC area. I was glad to have gotten his call because I had stayed in the cabins several times between 1991 & 1996. We had an instant rapport!
