Hi we are leaving for OKW soon. Our first time in a grand villa and can not wait to see it!! My dad has a hard time walking so, I have a few question.
I noticed most of the grand villa are on the second floor. If I recall correctly that is about 20 or so steps?
Is there anywhere we can get board games for the kids to take back to the room to play? If so what kind and where?
Building 63 has an elevator correct? What is the chance we could get the Grand villa there? Also, is it far to the main pool or bus stop?
Tanks for the info!!!

Building 63 does have an elevator and Building 48 has a GV with ground level access. If you will need an accessible GV, you should call MS and let them know of your needs. All others will have access by stairs only and all of the second levels in the GVs will have stairs for access- even building 63.

There are games available for check out at Hank's on the Turtle Krawl/HH area.

All buildings are near a bus stop and all buses stop at HH on their way out of the resort- so it's an easy way to get there. There is also an "internal" bus that stops at HH on it's way into the resort and then continues on to the other stops.

Bldg 63 is pretty closeto the main pool and bus stop, but your chances of getting it are "luck of the draw". It certainly won't hurt to list that request on your ressie, but also request close to bus stop and close to pool. As long as you are close to any bus stop, if you still want to go to the main pool, you can board any bus to the front of the resort. You will need to wait for the "Internal" loop bus to go back to your villa.

As far as the 2nd flood stairways...there is a 1/2 flight, a landing where you dad can stand and rest a minute, then another half flight. It may be 20 steps total, maybe 16, I don't remember. My Mom had 3 hip surgeries and can do them OK, but she takes her time. There is also one GV with ground floor access at OKW, it is wheelchair accessible. I don't know the building number.

EDIT: Posted same time as Doc :)

If you dad is at all able to negotiate the stairs, I think he will be fine, because they are fairly easy rises (probably 8" or less per step). If he can not negotiate stairs at all, you need to let them know that, and it should probably have been done at the time the ressie was made. Since you probably didn't do that, I would certainly call now and let the resort know that. You don't say how "soon" you are leaving, but if it is in a day or two, call the resort directly. If it is a week or two, call MS tomorrow morning and make your request.

Another thought. Will he be using an ECV or other type of cart while he is in WDW? You can call several different companies in the Orlando area to rent ECVs, and they will have them waiting at OKW when you check in, and you will only have to take it back to the checkin area when you leave. We have done this several times, and will be doing it again our New Years trip. It saves a lot of problems for those with walking difficulties and lets them enjoy the parks as much as everyone else does.

Thanks for all the info. My dad can do some stairs so we will the request as is (near turtle pond pool). We love that location.
Dianeschlicht- My dad has a hard time walking, the doctor says he is in need of two knee replacements. He finally agreed to rent an ECV at the parks only. I tried to tell him to have one delivered to OKW, but he won't. I think it has to do with the whlole bus thing loading and unloding the ECV. I heard sometimes it is hard to get an ECV in the parks. Is this true? We are leaving Saturday. Thanks everyone!!!

It is difficult to get ECVs in the parks because they don't have lots of them, and it is pricey, because it is a daily/per park charge. With the trip long rentals, it is much cheaper. I can attest to the fact that it is VERY easy getting the ECV on and off the buses. I have needed to use them in the past, and even I had no difficulty at all. The bus drivers are wonderful at helping out with this. You basically back it up onto the lift and then park it inside. Very fast and very easy.
