I need some help from the Poly lovers. I posted about this and people thought "I was nuts" to change my 2 bedroom at OKW to 2 rooms at the Poly, BUT I know that there are lots of people who love the Poly and wouldn't give it up!! So I need your help so I won't feel bad. ( The family asked to move to the Poly for the monorail)

Location, location, location!! Your rooms are very good sized, atmosphere is wonderful and relaxing. Monorail at your fingertips. Wonderful resturants on site. TTC just mins away to get to Epcot. The volcano pool. Views of MK and the fireworks from the beach or rooms in some cases. Water parade. We love the Poly! :)

Before we bought into DVC (1995) the Poly was our favorite place. Well, maybe tied with BC. As you can tell from my screen name, I love OKW. So, my perspective might help - or not.

If being near the MK is high on your list of qualifications, then the Poly obviously has it all over OKW. Also, getting from the Poly to Epcot is pretty easy since you can just walk over to the TTC and get on the Epcot monorail directly, rather than having to ride all the way around the resort loop.

I'll also give the Poly high marks for a romantic atmosphere, especially at night. Returning to OKW at night is just like driving into a gated community, not a lush tropical paradise.

The view across Seven Seas Lagoon from the beach in front of the Poly is pretty nice. I recall one visit when I was staying in what is now the Hawaii long-house (used to be called Tonga) on the third floor with a MK view. Early one morning I was sitting on my balcony reading the paper and enjoying a cup of coffee. There was a slight mist rising off the Lagoon and it looked like the MK was just floating in mid-air. Then a couple of colorful hot-air balloons floated by. Magic. :wizard:

HTH.

I guess it would depend on how important having a kitchen is to you and your family. One of the reasons that we haven't bought into DVC yet is because we don't really care to do any cooking or have many meals in our resort so that feature would probably not be utilized. The Poly is beautiful and convenient so if all you need is a coffee maker and maybe a refrigertor it's certainly something to consider.

I have stayed at both and enjoyed both very much.
Count me in the group that thinks it is nuts to give up a 2 bedroom OKW Villa for 2 separate Poly rooms. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Poly and would go back in a minute, but I feel the extra space of a 2 bedroom villa is irreplaceable.
If you have made that decision I think you should consider the location of the Poly on the Monorail as a perk, it is wonderful. It is very convenient to the MK and to Epcot. We walked to the TTC and caught the Epcot monorail.
The themeing is beautiful. It is lush and very romantic. It is also very busy.
The beach is nice and watching Wishes from the beach is a treat. We enjoyed the quiet pool more the\an the pretty crowded Volcano Pool.
We enjoyed eating at both 'OHana and Kona Cafe and Captain Cooks was decent, if crowded at peak meal times.
The Poly is very active and feels vibrant.
I am sure you will enjoy your vacation.
Have a Great Trip.

Location! You will be inside the MK. The kids will be able to see the castle change colors.

The Poly has wonderful food opportunities.

Check the new Poly 2008 thread. You will see why the Poly is so magical.:yay:

Personally, when I'm on vacation, I want a hotel, not a condo. And the two last things I want to see are a kitchen and a washing machine. Now some things I do want to see are Cinderella Castle, a fake volcano pool and the WDW monorail. I don't think you're nuts at all. But I'll accept that I may be a little kooky myself...

I've stayed at both too! POLY POLY POLY POLY!!!! :)

I can't tell you how GREAT it is to hit the MK and be able to have some go back to the hotel and go swimming while others stay at the park and meet up again for rides at MK (It's our favorite park)..also the theming at Poly outranks OKW anyday...OKW just seems like a condo setting, I just don't get that resort feeling there....the doors when we went had bugs/stains/ and the balconies just weren't kept up as well...the inside was roomy but it just didn't scream Disney like the Poly did....our room at OKW was also a looong walk from where the buses dropped you off and it was a pain with very tired children after a long day to hike to our room (in the rain)...you can stay pretty dry getting off the monorail and heading to your room very near the main center...

Poly all the way! :)

I totally agree! It's like being in an apartment. I'm not interested.

Plus the location of the Poly can't be beat!
