OKW virgin needs help from OKW veterans!

I have just sent an e-mail to member services to change part of my reservation for Nov so that I can try OKW. We've asked for a 1 bed, so I hope it's available!

Assuming that it is I would love to hear from all you OKW veterans........what will I love most about OKW, what should I not miss while there, anything to avoid? Please help make our first stay there a memorable one!

I have stayed at VWL, BWV, and OKW at Disney. I like them all but since you ask about OKW--one of my two homes the other being VWL--I will answer that one!! The 1 bedroom is HUGE. I think the thing I like the best is the large balcony where I can sit outside at the table eating in the morning. The kitchen island is great too. If you have a lot of laundry the full size washer and dryer can be a plus--when I have larger groups I prefer to stay at OKW for these reasons. Haven't stayed at a "bad" DVC resort yet!!

Make sure you take the Trumbo Ferry boat ride to DD, It starts at 12:00 noon and runs every 20 minutes up until 9:00 pm.There are 2 boats and they hold about 12 people only. It is a very relaxing and enjoyable ride.

I will second the trumbo ferry. This is one of our favorite things to do while at OKW. Most of the time we even have the boat to ourselves, very relaxing.

And be sure you're in "relaxed, laid-back" mode for OKW. It is a much quieter, restful resort compared to BWV. I haven't stayed at the other DVC resorts, but have visited all except HH. Enjoy OKWs rooms, they are large and relaxing, don't be in a hurry to rush off to the parks. OKW is perfect (IMO) as a place to sort of "wind-down" after a day at the parks.

OKW is my home resort(since 1994) and I can't say enough about it! Great relaxed atmosphere, friendly CM's, nice main pool and quiet pools, ferry to DTD, Olivias has good food, you park your car in front of the building you are in! We tried BWV in June 2001 and won't go back. The atmsophere is not the same..and CM's were not as friendly(although the epcot location is great). We are trying BCV in June, but back to OKW for New Year's trip. You will love it.

The tub in the OKW 1 BR, and larger units, is the largest at WDW. Room for 2. The balcony is very large also, table with 4 chairs, light, cieling fan, just a great place to sit a relax after the crowds at the parks, or for a relaxing cup of coffee to get you started in the morning. I agree, the boat to DD is a wonderful. Have a great trip, we will be there fron Nov 28-Dec 3rd, maybe we will run into each other.

While you are at OKW, be sure you take a walk around the grounds. Walk close to the ponds and you may see a turtle or two. You will see several species of waterfowl and several happy golfers.

I have to agree with those before me. Great laid back, relaxed atmosphere, good food at Olivia's (really great hamburgers!), largest units in DVC, large tubs in 1 bedrroms, large balcony, relaxing pools, easy parking, walking path to DTD (west end if memory serves me correctly), more than anything you really do feel like you have come home!!
