Just wondering if anyone can give suggestions....I am planning an upcoming trip as my daughter's band is playing in DTD, and I want to see her. SIL was supposed to travel with me, but her husband is recovering from a heart attack and she's not sure she is ready to leave him. Anyway, I won't cancel since my room is DVC points, I have an annual pass, and my plane ticket is paid for...just have to buy food. So...I may be traveling alone. I think I can deal with that part but I was wondering if I should ask for a specific building in OKW. I know that some of the buildings are a bit remote with regards to location. I don't want to be walking around alone at night, etc. Thanks.

Lori - stayed at OKW a bunch solo.

never feel unsafe there. but the same thing apply everywhere.

be aware of your surrounding. be sure to see where the cm are located (just in case).

never take anything to Disney that can't be replaced.

thefts are everywhere.

if you are nervous call DVC and see if you can't be closer to HH. like the back area where it is quieter - but hey safety (and peace of mind) first!

Although I haven't been to OKW solo, I've been to WDW lots of times solo. I would think you'd want to ask for a room not far from a bus stop. BTW, congratulations to your daughter's band. If I were there, I'd definitely be at DTD, crying like a "Mom". I guess once a "band Mom", always a "band Mom".

I have felt secure at OKW and all of the other WDW resorts. I'm a guy so that might make a difference. Do you have enough points to switch to AKV value, or Std View; or BWV Std View. For the extra point, (I normally travel Adventure season), it's worth it for me to have the couch instead of the second bed. That would also get you inside hallways that might make you feel a little more secure.

I am waitlisted almost everywhere else, but it hasn't come through....I'll call MS and see what they can do for me...

with your main stay for DD - would definitely go for SSR.

then if you get congress park you can walk over to see her.

the path while at night might get a nervously on it (and have) - during the day time hours is fine.

don't know about staying at the other resorts because getting to DD is not easy from them. change that - waiting for the DD bus can be long.

If you are at OKW being near the HH house is a geat idea like the previous poster stated... but also remember the boat to DTD departs from the HH too....youd be safe on the boat and it would drop you off at a busy area at DTD and return you to the heart of OKW.

When I called, I told them I would be by myself and every time I confirmed I said the same thing and then when I checked in. I got right across the street from it and it was great. My plans did change an my BFF got to go with me, but if she hadn't, I still would have asked for that room and probably would have gotten it.

If you are unable to get the "Near HH" booking category (bldg 11 to 14 & 23 to 26) Bldgs 27 to 29, while my least favorite because of view, seem they would be a good option for a solo traveler because they are fairly close to HH, and people walking to/from HH would be in good view of both the road way and the boats to DtD...meaning if something should happen while walking, the likelihood would be greater of you attracting attention of security and other guests.

I did request to be close to a bus stop...the close to HH category is full. I could also switch to SSr, but I could have the same issues there. I was also wondering what I will do to get to my room that night I arrive since I won't get there until after 1 in the morning....will they take me to my room? I doubt there will be bus service at that time of the night...

OKW has bell services, that would take you to your room. Not sure if it is a 24 hour service :confused3

PI busses ran that late, but now that PI is gone, I don;t know when the last busses run.

Really, I've never felt "unsafe" at OKW.

On the 19th, we had an early flight and had to make the ME bus at 4:20AM so we had bell services pick us up at 4:00AM. There was also a cast member at the registration desk so we could check out. I'm sure these services are 24 hour

Thanks for the suggestions....I did call MS and told them that I probably would be traveling alone so I wanted to be near to a bus stop. They said that they could put the request in, but no guarantee...I know that, but I have almost always been given what I have requested. Once, though, we stayed at SSR for two nights before moving to BWV. We didn't arrive until very late. The girl working at the desk wasn't really concerned about us getting to our room, I guess. We waited about an hour out front for someone to come get us to take us to our room...each time I went back inside to ask where our ride was, there was nobody to be found...just someone cleaning. When we finally got to our room, it was in the most remote area of the resort, horrible location. I think that's what put the sour taste in my mouth about SSR. I'm not sure I'll ever stay there again.
