We will be at OKW in a couple of weeks- 10/8-12 to be exact. I just did a search, but nothing came up. Any rooms you'd recommend? It's me, DH and DS(5). We are going to US/IOA 2 days. We'll go to MNSSHP one night as well. Other than that, we are taking it rather easy. If weather is nice, we'll probably spend a good bit of time at the pool. Where should we be to be close to the pool and someplace to get mug refills? TIA

Assuming you will have a car, so proximity to the hospitality area won't be a priority, one OKW studio is about like any other. If being nearby to a bus stop or pool is important, request that. OKW has one "theme" pool (with sandcastle slide) in the hospitality area and 3 very nice quiet "neighborhood" pools, all with hot tubs and childrens sandy play areas.

There are 5 bus stops conveniently located throguhout the resort.

Got to agree with Chuck on this. OKW is a nicely balanced place so there really isn't a bad spot. If you feel you really need to be near the restaurant, general store and main pool, then ask for something near the Hospitality House. But, we're very happy with anyplace there, usually requesting to be on the turtle pond area.

NOT building 26 if you want to go to the pool very much. Small hike to bus stop & long hike to pool. We found OKW to be very spread out. It's OK if you like to walk for a living. Ask them to show you the available units on a map before they assign one to you so you can see where it is in relationship to the Hospitality House / main pool area.

The rooms at the back of OKW are newer and way nicer than the ones at the front. The floor plan is more open (not so boxy)

brandip22-My wife, baby, and friend will be visiting Old Key West October 9-14. If you see a guy who looks like Fabio, that's me! Have a good trip.

You may want to skip the refillable mugs at OKW. Getting refills are not as convenient as other resorts where they have large food courts where you can refill the mug yourself. At OKW, you have to go to Goods to Go and get refills there. Goods to Go has limited service hours.

HUH??? I've stayed all over OKW in 10 years, and I've never noticed any different floor plans!

I don't believe this is true. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the "rooms at the back of OKW" AKA Phase II, and the original Phase I rooms are that there is an extra door in the 1 & 2 BR units that allows access to the bathroom from the living room (through the laundry room). Phase I didn't have this door. Also, the Phase III rooms (61-63) which are up front are the same as Phase II, except the buildings have elevators.

I am sorry to upset anyone - I am the first to admit that I am super picky -

I will move as many times as necessary until the room feels, smells, and looks satisfactory to me.

We take multiple vacations to Disney each year, and stay at OKW often. I am not sure what it is, but it has been my experience that anytime that I have been assigned a room up front - they simply have not met my expectations, and I have asked to be moved.

Although the floor plans are almost identical - the rooms up front seem more box like and closed in - the additional door off of the laundry room must simply give the extra oomph. I cannot put my finger on it, but the vacation homes at the back are just nicer to me. On a recent trip our friends were staying up front and each time that they came back to our place they would make the same comment that our room seemed bigger and was nicer. I just cannot explain it.

Disney is very lovely - it is not my intention to give an impression that there are inferior rooms. My opinion is simply that - my opinion. I apologize for ruffling feathers.

No ruffled feathers, just righting an incorrect statement. It may "feel" boxy or closed in to you, but all the villas at OKW have the same floor plan. The only difference is the door to the bath through the laundry, and yes, it does make it seem more open.
