OKW & SSR transportation/pool question

Hello, I have a couple questions: I'm hoping to rent points at OKW or SSR, but I'm curious how the bus transportation to the parks is compared to other WDW resorts? We have stayed at the Dolphin, WL, and CBR - the transportation to parks was efficient and worked well for my family. In addition, do you think teenagers will enjoy the pools? I would like to stay at the BC or BWV, but they are full the week I'm traveling.

We haven't stayed at SSR yet so I can't help you there, but we have been to OKW a couple of times. Both times we used the bus system and it was fine. OKW is large so expect to get a full tour of the property on the bus ride! But it's like any resort, it's just how you hit it. Sometimes we would get to the stop and just have missed the bus so we would wait. Other times we would get there to a bus just pulling up. On the whole, it worked fine for us.

I think teenagers would like the pool there. They have a new slide at the main pool and it is a nice large pool area. The community hall is there too with a ping pong table and other things they might enjoy.

There is a dedicated bus for OKW and a dedicated bus for SSR. At the Boardwalk/Epcot resorts, there is one, maybe two buses, that service all the resorts there.

At OKW and SSR, they have multiple stops throughout the resort to pickup and drop off guests.

There are several pools at both OKW and SSR with one themed pool at each. The themed pools have slides.

Personally, I prefer the Old Turtle Pond pool at OKW and the Congress Park pool at SSR.

We stayed there in December and there were four bus stops. There was construction going on for other units so I'm not sure if they have opened up more units and any more bus stops. :confused3 The bus service was great when we were there. Plus the convenience of just walking to DTD and catching buses there for other resorts. We had reservations at 'Ohana's and just walked over and caught the bus to the Poly - very convenient. :woohoo:

Have a great trip. :wizard:

I can only compare SSR to the Poly but the buses at SSR ran more frequently and the only stops were SSR not other resorts. The main pool is lots of fun as are the smaller ones by group of blgs. Artist Pallette is really good also!

We've stayed at both, and the buses were good. They were much better then when we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. But not as quick as when we stayed at ASMovies. It just seemed that when we were at SSR and OKW everytime we walked to the bus stop, we didn't wait long until our bus was there. I think that there was one day at each that we were waiting over 10 minutes for a bus. As for the pools, DD12 loved SSR, but we never got a chance to go in the one at OKW. We go in November and the weather wasn't as nice as it has been. We will be going back to OKW this November too!

We had good bus service to and from SSR last weekend - meaning never more than 10 minutes. Maybe we just timed things right or else had good bus karma for the weekend.

As for teens and the pool, there weren't many teens there this weekend at the pool at SSR - mostly families with younger kids when we were there - but it was in the evening after 7 p.m. There were some teens playing ping pong in the Community Hall.

Re: the pools, though - don't forget that as DVC members, you can pool hop as long as the pools aren't blacked-out like during the really busy seasons (and obviously you can't pool hop to Stormalong Bay). So if they don't like one pool so much, they can grab a bus at DTD and head over to one of the other DVC resorts like Wilderness Lodge.

But non-members who are renting a reservation from a member are not entitled to the DVC perks like pool hopping. Only guests of the member staying with the member at the DVC resort on points are entitled to pool hop.

Ah - I missed the renting part of the OP's post. Thanks for clarifying the pool-hopping rules and exceptions.

We were there last week staying at OKW as guests not members (we rented points). We were allowed to pool hop because we asked and they said no problem. I even checked when we got to SSR and they said no problem. Maybe it was because they weren't that busy, I'm not sure. I even told them up front that we were guests and not members and they didn't have a problem with it. It's even in the little booklet that they give you in your packet at check-in. My DH pointed it out to me because I had told him all along that we could pool hop because I read it on the boards somewhere that you couldn't do that.

Not meaning to sound rude, (I'm a fairly nice person and try to treat others as I would like to be treated), but this is addressed to whoever posted the above "quoted" post (Deb & Bill), your post sounded a little snobbish to me. I've noticed some of your other posts regarding DVC renters and have held back from posting about your comments, but I've really got to express my feelings now. I don't see what the big deal is as far as whether you rent points or are an actual guest of a DVC member. I mean really! I realize that if you have rented your points to someone you are obviously helping that person by making it possible for them to stay in deluxe accommodations but that renter is also obviously helping you by paying you on a per point basis so therefore you're getting something in return instead of just losing your points. I've been doing some DVC research as we are looking into buying DVC and I would think that renting helps owners pay for maintenance fees and so forth. I'm not trying to stir up anything here but I had to voice my opinion this time because as I posted earlier, this isn't the first time I've noticed that some of your posts are on the "I'm better than you are" side.

What happened to you, happened to you. However, official DVC policy as stated in our member guidebooks is that only guests of DVC members staying with the member on points at DVC resorts are entitled to DVC perks.

What you perceive as rude or an attitude is my attempt to state the facts according to DVC policy.

Here is the exact quote from the Member Benefits Guidebook as found on the DVC Member website: "The member benefits described in this Guide are made available by DVD as a courtesy to DVC Members, and, in some cases, their guests who have paid no compensation to the DVC Members ("Guests," or singularly a “Guest”)."
