OKW pool slide

since the area around the main pool is pretty built up - I was thinking they would have to put it in at Turtle pond in the first place.....

you got the water on one side - the bikes on one side (okay that could be moved) and the sandy playground and the tennis court - no more dolphins???? - but there is a fence here and the water on the other side.

there is not alot of room for a slide.

with the Turtle pond you could just move the grills and the picnic tables - or take away some of the landscaping around the playground.

I agree that the additional amenity of a slide does make OKW more desirable. I guess I'm just glad that it seems like we are allowed to discuss this kind of improvement for OKW now that it may be a done deal. I never did understand what the harm was in discussing possible improvements that caused such concern and outright abusive responses from posters.

I hope this report turns out to be true and I'm truely shocked when I read some folks saying they thought it was "inevitable".

Maybe if you had set up a discussion about the pool as I suggested three times in the other thread you might have had a chance to talk things over, not just make assumptions that you know how I think. When they announced the pool at the GF I mentioned here that I thought eventually Disney would add a slide to OKW to keep it consistent with all the other resorts. Back then folks insisted they wouldn't do it without a member vote.

I don't have a major problem with them adding a slide at the main pool. In some ways it might benefit the quiet pools, as there are a certain number of folks who will only want to be at the main pool where the slide is.

I wonder if they would in some way tie it into that bridge that goes over the main pool? Or maybe they'll put it over near where the dolphins are.

It'll be interesting to see.

Nope not at all FredS. Only saying that because everytime this topic was debated, the majority of owners/members @OKW weren't in favor of the slide. Nothing intended otherwise!

Someone else raised the idea that the slide could be at Turtle Pond. I for one, think that would be an excellent place for it! It wouldn't take away from the embiance of the Turtle crawl area, but would give those who love the Turtle Pond area a fun family place. It does seem that large families like that area best.

I'm not that familiar with the Turtle pond pool, but wouldn't they need to expand the area in order to add more chairs. I think a slide there may overwelm the existing area, plus generate a lot more noise in the evening. The townhouses are fairly close to the pool at Turtle pond.

This is really good news! My 4 year old will really miss a slide when we're there in a couple of weeks.

I think a pool slide has been needed for a long time. There are plenty of quiet pools for just relaxing .

If there's going to be a water slide, it should be at the main pool. That's been considered the "feature pool" since before OKW was called OKW. It's the main recreation area of OKW. And it's a beautiful, spacious, nicely themed area.

I attended the BWV meeting this afternoon, I will post my notes later. They mentioned the OKW pool slide in the general member news part of the meeting. The initial cost of construction will be paid by DVC (I assumed that meant the ongoing cost of lifeguards and maintenance would be paid by dues). It is still in the design phase, construction will start sometime in 2004, no date of completion scheduled.

The biggest news I heard in the BWV part was that they are going to convert 200 of the 400 valet parking spaces to self park. I didn't think of it until after, but it would be nice if they would dedicate those spaces to BW guests.
