OKW pool slide

Easy solution for those that don't want the slide or the price jump in the dues SELL YOUR CONTRACT AT OKW then you have nothing to worry or complain about you also won't have to worry about Disney not asking you if it is ok thus no more headache for you. Just my 0.02

Hmmmm. Not one misspelled word. Not one word with letters transposed. Alright, where's Shan; what have you done with her???

;)

Okey Dokey I got this one figured out.

1 ) DVC if your listening just forget the SLIDE at OKW and dismantle all the others slides at DVC resorts.

2 ) no need to stop pool hopping because there will be no slides and no one will want to pool hop

3 ) now since there are no slides, everyone can stay at HOME

4 ) or you can pool hop to the disney resorts.

Now if you put the slide in, just stop pool hopping altogether. If you want to use a certain pool, then get a room at that resort.::yes:: ::yes::

I feel sorry for those who bought at SSR if they don't put a slide at OKW. Hope they have lots of chairs at their pool.:grouphug:

In my opinion they are detracting and cheapening the resort. I just hope its classier that that hideous clown.

LOL I went back and read it. I did have one mistake! Instead of "BB ot TL" I meant BB OR TL!!! Maybe some DISers have been praying for me to have better spelling for their sake?!?

I told our kids the slide news and they said they will stop calling it "Old, Old Key West" now.

My husband and I never felt that way about Old Key West, but the kids said it reminded them of a retirement village.
Wow! That's interesting. Glad the new slide will help with this perception.

Why should I sell my contract at OKW....I bought in 1994 ...if I had wanted a slide I could of bought points at other DVC resorts ......or maybe those who want a slide SHOULD BUY AT THE RESORTS WHICH HAVE A SLIDE

Well, accept that when they bought they were allowed to pool hop to SAB to use those slides. That's changed. Maybe they wanted the larger rooms and pool hopped to use pool slides for the best of both. Just speculation.

I did buy where they have a slide I purchased @ HHI and SSR I use OKW when we are bringing larger numbers of family members. We all prefer the slides and think it is a great addition to a mediocre(sp) resort yes the rooms are larger and the points are less but that really isn't an issue the points that is but the pool is just to damn boring our kids love the slides at the other resorts so when we have to stay @ OKW we go to BWV to swim to use the pool slide. We also prefer the self serve walk up style eatery at VWL to the walk up at OKW but when we have to stay at OKW we do so if I am going to be there why not have the enjoyment of a nice slide at the pool to be honest and I am sure there are alot of other parents with kids that would agree it really would make the place more enjoyable. We also spend alot of time at the water parks but when we come back from MK or AK or Epcot etc and want to go for a swim we like to be able to play on the recreational equipment at the pool ie a slide.

So now people are claiming to have bought at OKW specifically because it doesn't have a slide? Never heard that stated as a reason for buying OKW before. I don't think it's strictly an OKW owners issue. For instance, if my home resort, which does have a slide, is full ( possibly due to at least some OKW owners staying at my home resort ), why do I have to accept less than what I am accustomed to simply because I have to stay in a different resort. The only way I would think OKW owners have an absolute right to define whether or not they want a slide is if they agree to never stay in any other DVC resort. And that's not going to happen.

ENOUGH ALREADY !!!!!!

Sorry, but totally not worth the price of buying a waterpark ticket when you have 2 small kids who can't use MOST of the slides at the water park because they're too young and we'd never spend an entire day there at their ages

When we bought our OKW points there was only 1 other DVC resort on WDW property and sorry, but BW is just not our taste.
Too busy and noisy. OKW on the other hand is beautiful. The only thing it really lacks for us is the pool slide.

Exactly! That was part of the appeal when we bought in. Pool hopping back then was a selling point. Although OKW is so beautiful we would probably have bought anyway, but the pool hopping selling point made things all that more appealling! For us anyway;)

Very well stated, thank you for making this important point.

Its just a pool slide, folks. It'll be a nice addition that all DVC members can enjoy when staying at OKW, and being purchased is such a way that only OKW home resort owners don't have to pay for the entire thing. There are certainly plenty of OKW members staying at other resorts offering repeated negative opinions about things like small rooms. The slide for OKW is something that is easily fixable, and thank goodness it is going to be fixed.::yes:: :hyper: ::yes::

I never said I had bought OKW because it did not have a slide I merely point out I should not have to sell my contract if I disagree with something...I have been to WDW seventeen times and have never stayed at any other resort and that is my choice,I love OKW and as one of the older generation I prefer the pool to be a little less full than it will be with a slide Am I not entitled to voice my opinion?

I have stayed away from this thread, because in all honesty, I really don't care if there is a slide or not. I don't even use the pools much except for the hot tubs. I have been accused on other threads of responses on this thread, so I decided I needed to at least make SOME kind of response,

Personally I dissagree with these "if you don't like it sell posts." I think they are overly harsh, and everyone has a right to express thier views as to what they like and don't like. If someone doesn't like a new slide, as long as they are not rude or obnoxious to others in expressing thier views, seems it's perfectly legitimate to me to express those views here. For me the "if you don't like it sell " comment gets too close to the line, and isn't needed. Everyone knows anyone can sell if they choose. They should still be allowed to talk about likes and dislikes without abuse. Just my $0.02. I highly doubt a pool slide is enough to cause anyone to sell.

...and the lack of a slide was certainly not an obstacle for those who purchased. The resort sold out (twice)- even without a slide!

Mickey UK it is fine to voice your opinion just ane no harm no foul I just find it funny that people like to complain about getting something that will affect everyone in the DVC family not just the OKW owners. I think that it will be a great addition to the resort having a pool slide and make it more attractive to other members thus filling more rooms at the resort then we will also stop hearing about all the people that dislike all the open rooms and people that stay there on cash for discounted rates and then they are unable to get a reservation with points because of it. So for everyone involved it makes a great deal of sence to have the pool then the resort will truly be a full DVC resort with few to hopefully none as some would have it cash rooms available.

I don't think a slide has any relevence to whether rooms are available for cash and not points. OKW is a fully sold "dedicated" DVC resort (not attached to a regular Disney hotel). The rooms that becaome available for cash have only a few sources.

1) Rooms that are unreserved by members at 60 days prior.

2) Member trades to other venues.

3) The small percentage that Disney retains.

Now, for the life of me, I fail to understand how an amenity, or lack thereof, at one DVC resort "affects the entire DVC membership". For instance, if BWV discontinued room service, how in the world would that have any affect upon me as an OKW owner?

Agreed. But we'll never know if anyone was sweyed to purchase BWV that might have purchased OKW with the slide being enough of a factor to swey them away from an OKW purchase.

I have read posts in this forum from DVC members not making reservation accomdations at OKW due to the lack of a slide (although I don't know that I can dig them up for you). I think that the potential elimination of pool hopping is another contributing "pool" factor that's changing the environment of the decision. I hope pool hopping doesn't go away, but I have this sense that it will. I believe I've read on this forum that there won't be any pool hopping at SSR, which I regret to read. Please correct any of the above presumptions if you believe they are in error. They are, of course, presumptions without definitive measurable data. I hope the slide fits in nicely with the OKW pool area and is appropriately designed to add benefit with the least negative impact.
