OKW Pool slide info-- Photos to follow

We arrived at OKW last night. Staying in building 32- everything was clean and in good condition. We tried to get a crib, but were told there are none- only the pack-n-plays already in the room. They did provide 2 pair of rails and all is well. (We have one of our daughters and 2 granddaughters with us - aged 2 1/2 and 1)

Today, I met with iluvdisney near the pool- they return to sunny Michigan tomorrow- and was able to see and photograph the artist renderings for the slide to be added to the OKW pool. Construction is scheduled to begin in September and hopefully be completed by January- (when the really warm weather begins ) During that time, OKW guests may use the neighborhood pools and/or the SSR pool. Boat transportation to SSR will be provided.

Unfortunately, I neglected to bring the cable needed to upload the photos of the slide to my computer- so the photos won't be posted until after we return home this weekend.

As for the opening date of SSR, the announced date is now May 17, 2004. Originally, May 1 had been suggested as the date, but that was revised to May 17 more recently.

I don't know if I'll make it over to SSR for any update photos- our granddaughters seem to take up a lot of time!!

Hey Doc, thanks so much for the time and effort you put in getting information and sharing it with us. Why don't you go "off the clock" this trip and just have a wonderful, magical time with those granddaughters and the rest of your family?! You deserve a real "vacation" to just enjoy.

At any WDW resort, when the theme pool has been closed, guests at that resort have always been allowed to use another resort's pool. (BWV guests could use SAB, Poly guests could use GF). This is no different. I have heard no suggestion (except for rumors on this forum) that pool hopping won't be allowed at SSR.

In this case, even if the SSR pool were to be off-limits to pool hopping on a given day (we are always supposed to call ahead to the resort we intend to pool hop), OKW guests would still be allowed to pool hop. I read no ulterior motive or information into the use of the SSR pool by OKW guests while that pool is closed for upgrade. If DVC announces otherwise, so be it.

I should have mentioned the theme of the OKW slide in the renderings today (they are available to be seen at Hank's Rent-N-Return). The slide will be a giant sand castle and will be situated between the kiddie pool and the main pool. As already noted, I'll try to post the photos of the model and artist renderings by early next week.

The news about the slide sounds great, that will be a good location, and the design sounds like it will be well themed for the pool. I'm surprised construction will be scheduled to occur over the Christmas holiday, but perhaps swimming is not very busy during that time of year, it can still be pretty cold.

Great information as always, Doc! I hope you are enjoying those grandchildren! Weren't you in building 32 in January also?

Did the slide remind you of the Vero one, like someone else had reported here?

I am not much into the main pool or slides, but we will have kids with us in October, and it looks like the construction will be in full force during both of our remaining 2004 trips (October and December).

By the way, did I tell you how much we envy you going twice in a month, when we are wishing to go back?
