OKW pool rehab-transportation to SSR?

We are taking family and friends (includes 4 kids under age 7) to OKW 11/7 - 11/12. We were disapointed to hear that the main pool will be closed for the slide construction during our stay. Since we won't have cars, I'm wondering about transportation to SSR for pool hopping. Will the ferry still only run once per hour during the day? I'm thinking this schedule may not be very convenient with small kids if they get cold or tired and want to come home sooner.

I don't know the answer to your question, but thought I'd bump it to the first page for you. Maybe one of the OKW owners will know the answer to your question.

I'm assuming you already know that there are several quiet pools at OKW that will still be available during the time the main pool is closed.

Best wishes -

There won't be a great direct route. Probably the safest method would be bus to DD and then either walk or bus to SSR. Recent posts on SSR bus service indicate that the DD busses pick-up at the Marketplace and then go to PI, TL and ultimately SSR. So, if you have to wait any amount of time at OKW for a DD bus, you could easily be facing an hour trip by bus, including the transfer at DD.

Another option here might be a bus to DD and then boat from DD to SSR.

Boat service direct from OKW may be an option. However, I saw a post recently indicating that the boats were filling-up at OKW, and then proceeding directly to DD without a stop at SSR. You could probably tell the captain where you are headed and make sure he stops at SSR on the way.

A call to the OKW front desk (or inquiry at check-in) might help you determine the best option. The pool will already be closed a couple of months by the time you arrive, so hopefully CMs will be used to answering the question by then.

With the group of children you mentioned, you might be better off just sticking to the pools that will remain open at OKW.

With 4 kids under 7 I would suggest you stay put at OKW, ask for a room close to one of the other 3 pools. If the kids were older I would suggest you just walk to SSR from OKW, if you stay in the South Point area of OKW it is not a long walk.

I have to agree with Pa@okw on this one. Since your children are younger, the 3 other pools (especially Turtle Pond) will be great. They each have a playground area included. While it is not the sand lot from the main pool area, they will enjoy it anyway.
