This has come up before and generated some fairly heated threads...there is a significant proportion of OKW owners that like the pool the way it is and dread any change to the pool, especially if that might make it more raucous...it has never seemed to be about the money for most of the anti-slide contingent...comments like "go poolhopping" if you want a slide, or even more ridiculous to spend $35 a day and go to Blizzard Beach are just silly and reflect a lack of understanding what a slide means to those who want and use one...the logical extension of that thinking-why not eliminate the pool altogether at OKW? Those that want a pool can always poolhop or go to a waterpark. --Oh, yeah, that might eliminate something that is important to a lot of people...not everyone, but a lot...hmmmm, sounds familiar...it is only a matter of the percentages.
An improved pool would enhance the OKW as a cash option for nonDVC guests...Disney needs to do this to be competitive...DVCers fill up the BWV, VWL and BCV before OKW. Points from those that trade out and the 4 % inventory of nonDVC rooms need to generate cash rentals and more often OKW is the place where DVC is going to have inventory to rent out-even if the traded points were from BWV VWL or BCV.
Despite having bigger rooms, the cash rates to stay at OKW are always lower than the other DVC resorts..$20 a night less up to $285 a night less depending on the room and the resort comparing it to...some of that difference is not fixable-- it is from location concerns, but I would guess some of it is lack of a theme pool...if theme pools did not make a difference then why did they invest in adding a slide to the Contemporary, and building new pools at the Poly and the GF? Why does every new resort feature a themed pool with a slide (the Saratoga Springs are unclear and yet to be built-we have seen pictures of a pool with slide but also have been told there would not be a slide)
