:) When I read the title of this thread ("OKW Owners Against Cool Pools"), I thought it was about the pools at OKW needing better heaters! :p

The slide for OKW looks great. I own at BWV, and the new slide will make me more likely to stay at OKW. However, I wish DVCers were given more say in DVC decisions. (And I will be seriously bummed if pool hopping is dropped! I don't want to have to swim at BWV with that scary clown!!! )

By the way, *will* the new pool at OWK have a zero-depth entry? Anyone know?

I had to laugh at your comments about the heaters - I thought they were talking about the color scheme or decor of the pools at first!

I do not think a zero entry is in the plan for the OKW pool.

We purchased a resale in December 2002 so we were never sent a survey or asked about a slide. As far as getting a slide, I am in favor of it. I feel it will be nice for families to enjoy. For people that prefer a quieter pool there are many other pools at OKW which are very quiet. As far as a dues increase, I believe it will be minimal & I never expected to buy into DVC & have my dues remain the same forever. I fully expected them to increase over time, especially with upgrades & also regular maintenance.

Also, I would much rather sit with a book & listen to children coming down a slide than hear that annoying "Marco Polo" shouted every few seconds as someone else said. JMO!!!

We are in favor of the new slide. I believe that it will be a wonderful addition for OKW.

That said, I also believe three things.

1) Wether you agree or not with the decision a five year old poll, conducted without scientific wording or sampling methods, is of absolutely no use in todays market. It tells us nothing about how people feel about this particular set of circumstances.

2) As owners, we should have had more say in something with this great an effect on our investment.

3) Disney did what was best for Disney, not DVC.

My feeling has always been that Disney is adding the slide, not for the enjoyment of DVC members, but to make OKW more saleable to non-DVC members. There must be enough resistance to staying at OKW due to no pool slide to prompt Disney to install the slide.

Think about it:

If OKW were used only by DVC members, how would the addition of a pool slide benefit Disney? It wouldn't!

Do you think Disney would spend the money to constuct the pool slide if there were no monetary return? It wouldn't!

I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, but I'm going to go ahead and say it. I don't think the reason was to make it more "saleable" to non-dvc members as much as it was to make it "saleable" to dvc members who own at resorts other than old key west. I say this because Old Key West is a large resort in relation to beach club villas or villas at wilderness lodge. Once we get to the 7-month window, we are all "DVC owners," not owners at a specific resort, and because Old Key West is such a large resort in comparison, there are times when the smaller resorts are full and OKW has vacancies. Because of this, the pool at OKW has an impact on all DVC owners, not just those that own at OKW. I'm saying that it is a DVC-wide issue, not just one for owners at OKW. Since Disney had the information that owners at OKW might not want to pay for the construction, they decided to pay for the construction for themselves, to put the pools at the various DVC resorts on more parity.

***"" ... In Septemeber 1999 7500 members were sent a survery to solicit comments & to utilize the info for future plans. Of the 7500 memebers surveyed, DVC received a 33% response. These members represented a broad member base & included all four resorts. "***

So 2500 people took this survey and those 2500 were from four DVC resorts. Yet the most vocal anti-slide members want to keep saying "we the membership" already voted that "we" don't want it.

***""When we asked the Membership if they would like us to add a pool slide at OKW's feature pool if it meant an additional one time reserves cost to put in, and an additional operating expense yearly to operate that slide the vote was 58% No, 42% yes."***

Based on this statement, if I was an owner at BWV, it sounds like my dues would go up to put a slide at OKW. Of course I'm going to vote NO.

I still have the vacation magic where these results were listed (2000, vol 1). Regarding the slide question, only OKW members were asked that question question, so BWV members did not vote on that.

Other questions:

In studio vacation homes, do you prefer two queen beds or one queen bed plus a sofabed.
Two Queens - 52%
Queen plus sofabed - 30%
No preference/other - 18%

Since all the DVC resorts built since 2000 have the queen plus sofabed, this survey did not make a difference.

Another question for OKW members only:

Adding two motorcoach routes to and from MGM studios and Epcot to reduce wait times at an estimated cost of .03 per point, 41% yes, 59% no.

About the same percentage as the slide.
