We have been to WDW many times over the past five years and finally stayed at Old Key West. We had a one-bedroom villa and the ones at the BWV have always been our favorite.....until now! We absolutely loved our villa and OKW in general. The villa is considerably larger than the one at the BWV and was extremely convenient. We had a car and it is a huge asset to be able to drive up to your 'front door'....I can't tell you how convenient that became.
The villa itself was located on the second floor and overlooked a small pond. On the other side of the pond, was a fairway from the LBV golf course....it was a fine view. The whole atmosphere was considerably homey and comfortable. The resort itself did not appear to be too crowded and our room also seemed to be in an area that was exceptionally quiet....which is exactly what we were looking for this trip. At night we spent some time on the balcony and to hear the frogs and crickets and other 'night life', was extremely soothing.
We did not utilize the bus system but it sure seemed there were buses everywhere...all of the time. We went swimming at both the main pool area and a quiet pool, and neither were anything special....yet both were quiet and clean. I was very impressed with the various activities that could easily be done at this resort...shuffleboard, ping pong, bsasketball, tennis, bikes, water bikes & boats, et al. Everything appeared to be very well organized and simple to utilize. We took advantage of the water bikes and boats...and also played a little bit of ping pong.
We had a nice breakfast at Olivia's and though we did not eat dinner this trip there, have done so in the past and we enjoyed it then. I also found the front desk staff to be exceptionally cheerful and helpful. I even asked the front desk staff if we could buy a pillow...my wife just loved the size and fluffiness of the pillows in the room. The CM said "I am sure you can...let me check on the price". She came back and said, "just take one". I was a bit surprised by her answer especially considering I was prepared to buy one...we really appreciated that.
Being we had never stayed at OKW, I was not sure what to expect. Being we have been there and had a great time, we'll be back real soon! I still prefer the EPCOT resorts for overall location if we are going to try and have an active vacation. But if I am looking for a more laid back time and some peace & quiet, OKW will be my first choice!
