We have been to WDW many times over the past five years and finally stayed at Old Key West. We had a one-bedroom villa and the ones at the BWV have always been our favorite.....until now! We absolutely loved our villa and OKW in general. The villa is considerably larger than the one at the BWV and was extremely convenient. We had a car and it is a huge asset to be able to drive up to your 'front door'....I can't tell you how convenient that became.

The villa itself was located on the second floor and overlooked a small pond. On the other side of the pond, was a fairway from the LBV golf course....it was a fine view. The whole atmosphere was considerably homey and comfortable. The resort itself did not appear to be too crowded and our room also seemed to be in an area that was exceptionally quiet....which is exactly what we were looking for this trip. At night we spent some time on the balcony and to hear the frogs and crickets and other 'night life', was extremely soothing.

We did not utilize the bus system but it sure seemed there were buses everywhere...all of the time. We went swimming at both the main pool area and a quiet pool, and neither were anything special....yet both were quiet and clean. I was very impressed with the various activities that could easily be done at this resort...shuffleboard, ping pong, bsasketball, tennis, bikes, water bikes & boats, et al. Everything appeared to be very well organized and simple to utilize. We took advantage of the water bikes and boats...and also played a little bit of ping pong.

We had a nice breakfast at Olivia's and though we did not eat dinner this trip there, have done so in the past and we enjoyed it then. I also found the front desk staff to be exceptionally cheerful and helpful. I even asked the front desk staff if we could buy a pillow...my wife just loved the size and fluffiness of the pillows in the room. The CM said "I am sure you can...let me check on the price". She came back and said, "just take one". I was a bit surprised by her answer especially considering I was prepared to buy one...we really appreciated that.

Being we had never stayed at OKW, I was not sure what to expect. Being we have been there and had a great time, we'll be back real soon! I still prefer the EPCOT resorts for overall location if we are going to try and have an active vacation. But if I am looking for a more laid back time and some peace & quiet, OKW will be my first choice!

And you can find pictures of our room here.

We our DVC members, OKW is our home resort and we love it, we have stayed at other Disney resorts but since becoming DVC members OKW is the only place for us these days! Glad to hear that you had a great time at OKW and will be going back in the future.

I agree with you! OKW is the ultimate in relaxation and "getting away from it all". I love it! :) But the Epcot resorts are great too for excitement, nightlife, food, and location. :) We like to switch back and forth with each trip... it really makes going to WDW a different experience each time. :)

Have been OKW members icne 1994 and have enjoyed many stays there (9). We love having the car available and the activities are wonderful as are the CM. We tried BWV in 2001 and will not return. The desk staff were unaccomodating and we were in the very last room in a very long corridor! We are trying BCV for the Epcot location and SAB, but OKW is always our choice!

GenePA, those pics are beautiful! may i ask what room you were in at OKW? it looks like a great view from your room.

Thanks for that great review, GenePA.

We, too, love OKW. It looks like you had the same villa that we've had. (Just kidding; they're all very similar and wonderful!)

For next week's trip, my friend wanted to stay at the Boardwalk Villas, and since this is her first trip ever, I agreed. I'm going to miss the laid-back atmosphere of the OKW, but it doesn't matter; we're going to Disney!

I really jive to the finishing touches they did with the decorating at OKW. The tiled island in the kitchen became extremely useful as we have cooked a buffet dinner (for eight guests) and we used the island as a buffet table.

Thanks, again, for the review and the pictures. Just looking at them brought back some great memories. Crazy, huh?

Kungaloosh!

Glad you enjoyed your stay at OKW.It is our favorite also.

I agree....very nice pics. Better than the ones I took this past July of our OKW villa. I was also wondering the location---maybe building 55 or 56 ?? I had "requested" this area (45-46 & 55-56) last year but got building 43 instead---which I ended up being very happy with. Thanks for the post GenePA :D

Thanks for the excellent trip report and pictures. OKW looks like a beautiful resort, spacious rooms, nice kitchen, great view, very peaceful. Glad you enjoyed!:D

We will be there in 5 days so Im glad to hear your positive review!

OKW is also our home resort and we think it is superior to other DVC properties. We have stayed at other DVC properties and frequently stay at other non-DVC resorts when just 2 of us go. We have 5 adults and an infant staying in a 2-bedroom coming up on the 29th. For parties with several people you can't beat OKW. We don't dislike the others but hey there just not home.

I'm glad to hear that you liked OKW. I want to rent points from a DVC member and stay there. It looks so relaxing and beautiful. Welcome back from you trip.

disneyberry & MiaSRN62 - we stayed in villa 3123 which is along the Turtle Pond route. We were on the second floor of a two story building. It was exceptionally quiet and I doubt if our area was even half full. The feeling of home and tranquil environment was more than I could have expected. Being DVC members, our home resort is the BCV so we will be returning to the EPCOT area...which we do love. The OKW experience is so different from the EPCOT resort experience. We love both but where one is quiet and serene...the other is vibrant and upbeat. Being we now know of OKW, we are sure to return.

Redbeard52 - I hope you enjoy BWV but don't expect it to be the same as OKW. It is excellent in its own right but is a much more active area. We have always loved the BWV as we have found the location to be optimal for an active time at WDW. I'm sure you'll find the finishing touches of the Boardwalk resort to be as intriguing as OKW...just different.

allicat - hope your trip to OKW was a great as ours.....have fun!

We were in building 31 last May and loved it - 3111 which was a 1 bedroom. I'm requesting that area again this year.

Thanks for all of the glowing reviews of OKW.I just got my confirmation sheet in the mail today, so we are all set for our August trip, our first as DVC members!

GenePAThanks for sharing the pictures. Glad you enjoyed your stay.:)

Thanks....this area sounds just like our experience with building 43. We were on the ground floor of a 2 bedroom villa and our patio was right near the edge of the pond. The OKW ducks came up to mooch from us every morning. Very peaceful section.

We've been members since it opened in 1991 and it is by far our favorite resort. We have stayed at almost all the WDW resorts and continue to do so every year, but when we get to OKW we're definitely "home"!!

Glad you enjoyed!

thanks for the beautiful pictures even makes me miss my other home even more only 92 more days thanks for sharing
