OK - you're all probably sick of these requests, but here you go!
We've never been to OKW or SSR and they are the two resorts with availability (1 bdrm 9/26 through 10/3). I'm relieved we can get a room anywhere on short notice! The question, and I have to decide fast, is which to choose?
It will be me, DH, and 2 DS (6 and 7 yrs).
We will be going to each park for 1 day and taking 2 days to relax, go to the pool, etc.
We will have our own car, but want to use it as little as possible!
We'll be taking bikes and would love to bike around whever we stay.
I know OKW has bigger rooms, and about 20 points cheaper for the week. Everything sounds wonderful there - except for the main pool being under construction.
The downfall I see to SSR is the smaller rooms, and the construction of the new buildings.
Any suggestions, opinions, ideas would be appreciated. I think I'm going to make the ressie's (my first!) today. Thanks!

At the moment, due to the construction, I'd go for OKW. I'm looking forward to staying on SSR, but I'll wait until they've finished a bit more of it. Particularly with kids riding their bikes, I'd rather avoid the construction traffic. OKW is great for bikes.

Have fun

I would go for SSR for several reasons. First, most people say the construction is not a distraction, at least from the rooms. Second, the resort is new, so less wear and tear. Thirdly, the resort is not fully occupied so there should be less crowds. Lastly, I've heard rave reviews about the SSR pool and splash areas. JMO. Good luck deciding!!

I would take any DVC resort just to be able to go now!! ;)

Thank you - I appreciate any help! If it was just me - well, I'd stay in a shack to go!!! I guess I'm just wanting the trip to be the best it can for DH - want him to like DVC!!!!! I'm sure my kids will just be thrilled to be there!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

I won't make your decision for you :( but did want to mention that the main pool at OKW will be closed (under construction) during the dates you are looking at. There are several other pools spread around the resort which will remain open.

We spent a couple hours at SSR back in May. The construction is VERY visible (the first building you see as you enter the resort was still just girders back then), but there really wasn't any noise that we felt might distract from a stay.

I'd say it's a toss-up between the two.

Why not try both.

I wouldn't normally suggest a move during a 7 night stay but since this is your first trip home using your OKW points It might be nice to actually stay at OKW during the week days. Then move over to SSR for the weekend.

The feature pool at OKW will closed during your stay you could choose SSR for those days when you will be relaxing by the pool. I understand SSR has a very nice pool and it might be uncrowded being that it was designed for a much larger resort than it currently is.

OKW during the week and SSR on the weekend will save you a few points as well...you'll need them. I predict that you'll be planning your second trip before you've returned from your first.

Have fun and travel safe.

Having just returned from our first DVC stay at OKW (we own at SSR) and having made a quick visit to SSR to look around, my opinion would be to try OKW first (especially since it is your "home" resort). I think your children would have a safer biking environment minus the construction and though it didn't appear it would interfere with your vacation only a small section of the resort area is open. I would guess you had much more "roaming" area at OKW. Regarding the pools, there are still 3-4 quiet pools open besides main at OKW (only 2 at SSR...main and quiet) that you will surely be in the vicinity of. Though we saw the OKW main pool while at Olivia's we did not use it as it was so far from the South Point area (we had a quiet pool right around back of our building). Of course, I know with either choice you will have a wonderful DVC vacation as we did! Good luck and enjoy!

We are leaving in 2 days - when is it closing?

I believe that I've heard that the OKW main pool distruction (construction) begins September 6th. The quiet pools will reamin open during this time though.

Thanks all! We decided on OKW - we really want to ride bikes, and decided we'd try to get near one of the quiet pools, and not worry about a main pool. We really didn't want to change resorts - we'll be too lazy, and don't want to move all the stuff in the fridge! Really appreciate everyone's input! Thanks again!:sunny:
