OKW One Bedroom Questions

Sorry, I just assumed that you read and signed the "Product understanding checklist". It clearly states the maximum occupancy of the units.

We also pay for the mantainence of these units, overcrowding these units raises our costs. I think is is very unfair, even rude, to subject fellow members to higher costs due to someone deciding that the rules are for others.

A good idea would be to see if there was availability for you to cancel your current reservation and re-book it as a one bedroom, two bedroom, then one bedroom again only making the lock off studio available during those days that you need it. By linking the reservations, they may be able to guarantee your ability to do this.

You could even just reserve a studio for them during those days and send a fax before leaving explaining your desire to have the studio be the locked off studio from your unit. Again make sure your desire is clear when you check in. Call the front desk the day before they check in and make your desire known again. Be there when they check in and you may just get lucky and be able to stay in the one bedroom the entire time.

Simply put, seven is way too many people for a unit that YOU agreed not to overcrowd.

Sorry, but as members we have a vested interest in the abuse of these units.

No one personally attacked you or was disrespectful. You want to hear that it's ok to do what you want to do.I highly doubt you will get many of those.

I totally agree with Routeman and Rich, (perhaps I would not have used the same phrasing as Rich, but, I do agree totally with the theory).
Usually one something says it sleeps 4, 6 or whatever, that is the outside limit. They will not provide extra bedding, linens etc.
It is WAY overboard to expect to cram that many people in that unit. Not to mention the noise that could eminate from that many people being in that unit, that would, IMHO, constitute total inconsideration on your part. This is not an attack, it is an opinion.
I would take the advice on how to accomodate your relatives and work with those and within the guidelines of the agreement you signed and, hopefully read before you signed.

The solution is to either let your brother's family book their own hotel room or to arrange either a studio or one-bedroom for them at OKW. The occupancy limit is 4. There are two beds for 4 people. A crib provides room for a 5th child who fits in the portacrib. Reports have been that a 5th child of any age is usually permitted in the unit but no bedding is provided. In some places you will find the wording as "Sleeps X". However, in the offering statement documents you will see the language is more specific that it is a maximum of "X" per unit.

No personal attack intended. You asked for the policy since you missed it in the paperwork. That's fine. Everyone has questions. However, that is the answer. Any attempts to provide justification for why that isn't the answer are moot. If you disagree with the policy, feel free to contact DVC and discuss it. All any of us can do is relay the policy as it has been stated to us and share our experience in following that policy.

You did ask some questions that still haven't been answered. I'll do my best:

1) How many people can stay in a one bedroom room?
2) Would Disney question us

These have been discussed already

3) I know the charge for extra towels is $6, is that per day charge or for your whole stay? When they do the housekeeping, will they replace these towels?

The extra charge is per set. You get trash and tidy service on day 4 which will replace the towels. You get a full cleaning on day 8 (or 7?)

4) How many cars can you have on OKW?

You would not have any problem with 2-cars. We've had a number of times where we got a 1-B/R (2 of us), and my sister and BIL who live in FL may join us for a day or two, so we have 2-cars between us.

5) Is the bathroom entrance from the Bedroom or living room? I know it says somewhere that blds 30 and under only have one access. Where is this access to the bathroom from?

All units have a washer/dryer located just off the bathroom. The main entrance to the bathroom is off the Master Bedroom. However, after the original units were built, they added a 2nd door into the laundry room. This door leads into the hallway just before the master bedroom. Using this door, guests in the living room can use the laundry room as a pass through to get directly to the bathroom without having to go into the master bedroom.

6) How far is turtle pond to the hospitality center? Is it a long walk? Is turtle pond a good place to stay?

I think all places are a good place to stay. South Point would be the furthest walk, Turtle pond then comes in 2nd. From Turtle Pond to hospitality is about 15-20 minutes, depending on your walking pace.

7) How many chairs does a one bedroom balcony have? Can you use these chairs at the kitchen table?

Two. The dining room table is sized for 4-people with nice chairs. You could scoot them a little and probably add a 5th chair. Adding a 6th chair might be a little tight. If you do get a studio (or a 2nd B/R) for your guests, they could certainly join you for dinner and relaxation time. For dinner you might try to set the kids up using the coffee table, and just seat the 4-adults at the dining table. Just my opinion.

8) Approx how big is the bedroom? Approx how big is the living room? Could you put a blow up mattress in the bedroom?

This has been addressed regarding occupancy. The B/R is very nice, but with the King size bed, TV credenza, table, lamps, etc, there's not a lot of room left over.

9) Do they give you pillows for the pull out couch?

Yes, pillows, linen and blankets. The unit is designed for 4-people, (2 in the master B/R and 2 on the pull out couch)

10) Is there clothes drawer or closet space in the living room?

No. The only closet close by is the small entry closet by the front door, not really in the living room itself. And that closet wouldn't do for putting much clothing in.

11) Where is the hot tub?

The hot tub is located between the maste b/r and the bath. Basically, going from the bed to the bath, you would pass things in this order: Bed, Hot Tub, Hand Sink, Commode, Shower, hand sink.

I think the best advice you could follow is try to get a studio for those extra days when you'll need it. Even if you can't get it as a lock-off, and it's a few doors down. Much better that way as everyone gets a bed, there's another bathroom, and people have a place to put their clothing.

PamOKW has valid points and if you cannot arrange a room using your points maybe your BIL could rent points and come out a winner by not paying rack rates and still being at OKW when you are. You have been registered on these boards since 1999 so surely you knew the kind of responses you were going to get, nice or otherwise.

11) Where is the hot tub?

There is no hot tub in the unit. It is a Vita bath (Jacuzzi type) that holds 2 people nicely. It is off the master bedroom.

Just wanted to let you know that regardless of where you stay you can always catch ANY bus to the HH. since the HH is always the last stop you can get off of any park bound bus. A walk, after a day in the park may be too much. We love Turtle Pond and always request bldg 44 1st floor.
BTW I would definitely recommend getting a studio for your BIL and family. It certainly makes it much more comfortable, or buy some points which are a great deal.

I thought this was a "Disney forum"??;)

Many of you have pointed out the history of threads regarding exceeding room occupancy limits.

We ask that further discussion of occupancy take place on the debate board. There's a thread regarding this issue that you're welcome to join in.

For now, this thread is closed.

Thank you.
