OKW Miller's Road Pool/Play Area

We're hitting OKW in May/02, but not entirely sure what we want to request for a building. We have stayed in Building 14 before, and liked the convenience to the bus (get on and go to park, no more stops) but found the main pool to be a bit busy with the kids (4 and 6 then).

We will be travelling this time with 2 grandparents, 2 parents (us), 2 kids (5 and 7), one sister-in-law.

What is the pool and play area on Miller's Road like? Is the pool very big, a simple rectangular thing, etc?

Is there a children's play area on Miller's Road, and what is it like?

I think for us, the pool is the big issue - if we're going to end up wanting to go to the big pool (i.e. the Miller's Road pool is too small/busy/etc), then we should really stay closer to HH. But, I can't find any pictures of the Miller's Road pool to help us out!

Anyone?

TIA, Jeff

The pool at Miller's Road is a plain rectangle, but is a nice size and is usually pretty underused. Should be a great spot!

You might also consider the Old Turtle Pond area. The pool is nice there and a play area is in the area, as well as a snack bar.

Enjoy!

My experience with kids and pools is that "size doesn't matter" - what matters is whether mom & dad participate and have fun with the kids as well. On our last trip, my sister and her kids almost exclusively used one of the "quiet pools" close to our room, and always had a blast - shucks, the kids had more fun sometimes searching for geeko's on the way to/from the pool than the pool itself. The few times that we entertained them at the pool, it was all about fun and games in the water - no one cared what the pool looked like.

All of the pools at OKW have a play area (which includes swings and a regular kid slide) near the pool, so for non-pool time, this is great as well.

Really, the only differenciating factor with OKW pools vs. any place else is the lack of a water slide, and while fun, kids can and do manage to live their lives without even this.

We just returned a few weeks ago {{sigh}}. We have always stayed near the HH and used the main pool. I was a little disappointed when we found out we were staying in the Turtle Pond area (we did request to be near the HH). As I have learned in the past, never judge something until you try it. The Turtle Pond area was GREAT! There wasn't any bus noise. The pool was a short walk away. My kids (4 and 6) had a ton of fun. We went swimming 9 of the 12 nights we were there. My oldest said she liked it much better "then MY regular pool" - she thinks the HH pool is hers! Do you think we go to Disney a little too much? LOL

LisaR - Thanks for the reply. Sounds like your kids are the same age as ours. We are 'struggling' (if you can call it that!) between Miller's Road and Turtle Pond as an alternative to the HH area, so your comments are appreciated.

Did you have any sense whether the Turtle Pond pool was busier/quieter than the main pool, while you were there?

Did you use the bus transportation much? I think Turtle Pond would be the second stop on the way in, there would be two more stops on the way out - did that add much time getting to the parks?

TIA, Jeff

Sorry Jeff, but we didn't use the bus transportation. We always have a car.

As for the pool, I hate to use the word "quiet". It wasn't quiet but it wasn't anywhere near as crowded as the main pool. We had a couple times when we were the only ones at the pool but for the most part, there were always a few kids close to my kids age for them to play with. This was in late January/early Feb. so the crowds we low to begin with. However, we walked to the HH many times and the main pool always had many more kids then Turtle Pond.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the location. So far, every place we have stayed at OKW has worked out well for us. I have always requested to be near the HH and this was the first time that was not honored. So, if you get your heart set on one spot, you may be disappointed. Make a request but go into it knowing that your kids will have a great time in any of the pools!

So does anyone have any pictures of the other two (2) pools I am interested like jjohns is. I have never seen these two (2) pools myself. Can't wait to see some pics I know there is someone out there with some pics. Thanks in advance.

We usually request the Millers Rd area when making reservations. The pool is adequate, and as mentioned earlier is generally underused. The walk to HH is a relatively short one ( < 5 minutes) so if you want to use the larger pool area it is easy to get to. Also, it is very easy to use either the bus stop at Millers Rd or the one at HH. We have never had a problem with bus noise in the area and have always had a nice view.

Hi There,

I was in the same frame of mind last year before and I found some great pics in www.ourlaughingplace.com , looking in the resort articles look for pictures and click show all. There are great pics of the different pools.
