OKW internet

We ar heading to OKW in November and my DH would like to know what type of internet connection they have at OKW. Is it dial up or broadband? His work has lent him a lap top so he can check in but he does not have a dial up account. THanks for any info!

They have high-speed conections in every room-- you need an RJ-45 cable (you can get them from housekeeping).

There's a charge for every 24 hours of use (i.e., you logon at 8AM, you can use the interenet for the next 24 hours...). I'm not sure what the charge is, but I think it's something like $12.95.

The resorts charge 9.99 per 24 contiguous hours for the use of their high speed internet.

THanks for the info! Is there anywhere that my DH can check in once a day for e mail and check his web site without paying for 24 hours? Is there any type of cyber cafe or the such on Disney property?I can always count on the people here to know the answeres This is a belated honeymoon-- I don't want him on the computer 24 hours cause he"paid for it"

DQ has a cyber cafe, but there are internet kiosks at most of the resorts. At OKW, it's located in the entry to Olivia's. It's free to browse any of the Disney websites, but it will accept a credit card to browse other sites or check email.

The broadband cost in the room is $9.95 for a 24 hour period, but you can also use a dialup connection (just make sure it's a local call). Dialup cost is .35 per call for DVC members and .75 for all others. The prefixes for local calls are listed in the front of the phone directory in the room. You can get a free dialup account- check out netzero.net . They have free accounts that will give you 10 hours per month at no charge. Better have it installed on the laptop before you get there though! (Another option is budgetdialup.com where you can get prepaid internet time. They have local numbers for Orlando and also have an 800 #.)

I find those Kiosks to be pretty unreliable, plus it is very open and you have to stand the whole time.

I recommend going to one of the convention hotels and using thier PCs if he does not like the Kiosk. YC/BC, Dolphin and Corando Springs all have business centers. However, if his company is like mine with the VPN network he may have to use the PC!

$10 a day is chump change compared to the hassle of going someplace to get online for free. Besides, if his company won't pay for it, they obviously don't need his services that badly.

If you've not figued a way to distract him from the computer yet, there's no advice I could offer.
